Pokemon Go: Latest CRAZE!

32 replies • Last post

There are good things - one woman said she lived with her roommate for three years and they had never gone for a walk together. Since Pokemon Go! they have been for three walks. lol

There are bad things - kids found a dead body floating in a river or pond (?), and others were robbed at gunpoint for those who immediately want to turn something good into something bad.

Now, apparently, Pokemon Go! is a dating app, too. lol

WARNING: This article contains the F word.

Anyone playing?

Exactly! That was my thought - the positive is it is getting people out and about. Nintendo stock has risen 30% since Pokemon Go. lol The app is free, but of course there are "extras" offered for money.

My kids love Pokemon. My youngest is only 6 and he trades the cards with other kids at school all the time. He has this little tin full of them. I asked them both if they had heard of this game the other day and they both said "yeah we already played it on Poppy's phone". So they have convinced my dad to install it for them already.

From what I saw it at least encourages people to get outside and move around. They reckon they went for a walk the other day to play it and saw other people walking around staring at their phones too.

I used to love Pokemon tv series, I was quite obsessed with them and the whole pokemon thig. I still think it is really exciting, however, as I know that this app isn't available for my country yet.

Over at the downtown area in my city there were dozens of people walking around the other day hunting Pokemon. My daughter loves it too, but I think I'm a little too old for it. Maybe I'll have it and use it for when we get on a bike ride.

Ed, my daughter has also been collecting the cards, and she likes to trade with kids at school. She doesn't have any idea how to play the game, but she sure loves looking at the Pokemon she got!

Yeah the game means nothing to them. Its all about collecting the cards. They have gone out today to the city with mum and they are planning to play it while they walk around.

I've seen a bit of the cartoon on Netflix and my goodness is it awful. Its like they are issuing commands in the game when they have a battle. But my kids love it!

With the craze, Nintendo stock is rising, and I am sure we will now see a lot more Pokemon in our in futures (more action figures, games, etc) as they continue to try to rake in on the craze. Why didn't we buy stock? Hindsight never gets me anywhere. lol

Actually you're talking to a Nintendo shareholder here hope. They are one of the few I've gotten right mind you!

I bought them years ago now around the time that the Wii first came out. Believe it or not I still paid more than what they are worth now. But at the time it went up quite a bit and were worth double or even triple what they are now, even with the recent big spike. I sold half of them at some stage for a profit and have been holding the rest ever since.

Their shares have been going nowhere for years, even though I think that the Wii U is criminally underrated. So this has all been a very nice surprise.

The Wii U is very underrated. I'd wager and say they have the best game library of this generation, and I say that as a huge video game nerd who has all the major consoles.

I'm interested to see what they have up their sleeves for their new NX console and what other franchises they'll bring to mobile phones.

I'm not getting carried away though I think all the people buying Nintendo might be. From what I read Nintendo only has a minority shareholding in the company that makes the game so I don't think they are going to make billions from it directly. I think with last night's rise the shares might be just about back to the price I bought them at in 2007. Woohoo. Might be time to sell them. lol

And thats another fine example of how misunderstandings combined with widespread gun ownership can be potentially catastrophic. Those kids are very lucky to be alive.

Definitely a fun game to get the kids out and about. It works a treat getting the little ones to do long walks....the trick is having enough battery life, the game just sucks the juice out of the phone like nothing else. Even with all the battery saving functions activated.

I've found that its best to make a day of it, have an expedition in mind ie cycling to play at a nice park or catch public transport to a touristy place then do the pokemon go thing. It's far more interesting (at least for the adult) than just walking around your neighbourhood and it seems there's more Poke Stops and Pokemon to find in touristy spots/parks etc.

I took my kids out on a bike ride yesterday, and the thought came to try the Pokemon Go app... an hour later in 90 degree heat and the kids were still itching to catch more. They are already bugging me to go out after work today to get more.

It's very true! I have heard so many people say they are getting out and about for the first time because of this game. Too funny!

Today I hope people stay home in the air conditioning. It is in the high 90s today and tomorrow with a heat index today of 101 and tomorrow expected heat index of 111 to 116.

And there is an Aquatenniel celebration in the twin cities tonight to include a 5K run. I won't be there! Only the air conditioning or the pool or lake for me in this kind of weather.

The main thing that's really got people playing Pokemon Go is the hype surrounding it. The fact that it's popular. Attention brings forth more attention. However, I haven't been playing any of it.

I will say that it's good to see that it encourages and incentivizes people to go out and walk more often - it's always a pleasure to have more activity.

It's kind of morbid when you get to the grit of it - animals being trapped in tiny cages, being forced to fight others. There's literally no problem with confining wild animals into small balls. Wow.

I know what you mean. Its like kid-friendly cockfighting.

I asked my kids how they think the pokemon feel being trapped in a little ball and only being brought out to fight. But that pretty much went in one ear and out the other. lol

haha Don't they shrink down or get transported to a alternative universe? because the ball is so much smaller than them, I thought it was more like sending your kids to their room.

I played the game insanely for first 2 days only getting a few hours sleep each night, waking early to go out again, I did make it to level 20 in record time, but once I realised I was a little addicted I deleted the app and stopped playing.

I was talking about this again with my kids the other day. I put it to them that it was pretty mean to squash those poor creatures up inside a tiny little ball and only let them out to fight. But they insisted that they like it in the ball and it's probably a Pokemon paradise in there where they love to play and sleep. I gotta hand it to them, they have some good rationalising skills there! lol

My kids are excited as there's a proper Pokemon game coming out soon. They're hoping Santa manages to stuff them down the chimney for them this year.

I've read much about this game, never played myself though. After having seen a guy who played it driving a car I believe that the seriousness of this game is underestimated... The game is so engaging that makes it easy to cross the line... You guys get what I mean.

Mmmm, seems to me his mistake was being in Russia and posting it on YouTube
A man played Pokemon Go in Church and may get jail time.

We all need to lighten up, if you don't like people hanging around your establishment, do what a reasonable person does, contact the game developer to have your business/site removed. Or put up a sign asking people to be respectful otherwise piss off! 3.5 years in jail is a bit extreme!

And while I'm on my soapbox, why don't I have the same right as a church to demand the same level of respect in my own home....yes I am talking to those people who come to my home and knock on my door trying to preach about their religion.....if I am interested in going to church/temple/mosque I will do it in my own time....I find it offensive that these people bring their gods to my front door while I'm busy catching Pokemon and getting more Pokeballs! Joking Wink
