We got some new floors!

12 replies • Last post

For the past week I have been living on plywood floors as we waited to get some new flooring installed. Yesterday was the day it came in, and I am thrilled with the results!

We moved into our house 8 years ago, and really needed some work to get it up to snuff. We have built walls, fixed plumbing, re-routed water lines, worked on electricity and a lot more to get it up to looking decent, but the last thing remaining was nice flooring.

When we moved in we had this nasty grey carpet, which was stained from the family that lived there first, and having three kids and three dogs hasn't exactly been too kind to them either. Thankfully the kids are a bit older and the dogs calmer, so we don't have to worry too much about stains.

We ended up deciding on getting bamboo hardwood flooring and did our entire upstairs. The picture below is the end result, and we are really happy. We had a guy and his son come to install it for us, and they worked all day yesterday and a few hours today to do 750 square feet with trim.

Next up is our kitchen, which the guys will be doing the flooring on and replacing cabinets.

What do you guys think?

Beautiful! I really like bamboo flooring. It looks great and is very sustainable as the stuff almost grows quicker than it can be cut down.

Looks great! Agree with Nin Wayne, the very snowy (and recently shovelled?) front yard and drive make for a nice touch. Enjoy the new floor!

Wait hang on ... is that a light sabre I see on the foot rest in the middle of the picture? That would be a cool way to start up your fire.

Yes that is a lightsaber. We have a 6 year old Jedi here, who has more lightsabers than General Grievous himself!

We had a long week of renovations trying to get the kitchen all set up, but it is done and we have gotten it all completed, save for backsplash, under cabinet lights, and paint.

The contractor didn't do as nice of a job as I would have liked (especially since I had to fix the plumbing under the sink and there's some finish work he didn't do very well), but I am still thrilled with the results and think it looks 100 times better than my old kitchen. We're hoping to be able to sell the house down the road and hope the renovations have improved the value of the home. Smile

Beautiful, 'Slim! I really like those floors. Looks like you have a nice view out your picture window, too, even if right now it is a snowy view. Smile

All I can see is FRIDGE!!! My goodness that is a big fridge. You could store a couple of bodies in that thing... er... I think.

Seriously though... the cabinets do look nice! Are you going to put a splashback in?
