My Travel Pics

16 replies • Last post

Hey guys,

I ended up taking a trip to the Bahamas a bit earlier this month with my family and had a BLAST. Compared to the below zero temperatures we experienced here in Michigan, the Bahamas was brilliant! I thought it would be cool to share some pics with you, and thought you may enjoy them.

A little recap of our trip:

We ended up leaving Detroit on February 1st, in the middle of a blizzard. The area ended up with 16 inches of snow in some parts, and our plane was 2 hours late showing up, but kudos to the airport for getting us out in that weather. I have a pic of the plane, and the snow was a lot deeper when we ended up leaving!

We ended up leaving out of Miami for the cruise. Weather down there was mid to high 70's, and just great. We ended up hitting the islands of Grand Bahama, New Providence (Home of Nassau), and Great Stirrup Cay (a private island owned by the cruise company). It was a lot of fun, and the kids loved being able to play in the sand, see the tropical fish, and eat food that they aren't used to.

With that being said, here's the pics from our cruise!

I love Bahamas. We have a close friend who bought a condo in the Atlantis resort. Last time we visited, I won $1200 in the casino there. During that visit, I went to one of the shops and I saw a watch that I liked. It did not have any price so I asked the salesperson and she said 45. As I was debating with my wife whether I should pay $45 for a watch that I might not even wear, the saleswoman clarified. She meant $45,000.

That's a great and classic Atlantis story that's for sure. The wealth of some of the visitors that vacation there is incredible. I remember my first trip there when I was 16, and seeing my first huge yacht in the harbor there, the very expensive bottles of Louis XIII, cigars, and more. Paradise Island is a great, if not cost effective place to visit.

You are right about the wealth that I saw there. But sometime I wonder whether some of these wealthy people have their priorities straight. Buying a watch for $45000 somehow feels wrong to me. So much good can be done in the world with just little money.

At the same time, I am not in those people's shoes to know how it feels to have so much. Once I heard Elizabeth Taylor say that she only wears fake jewelry. Since people will think that they are real anyway, so what's the point paying for real ones.

Great photos. Thanks for sharing slim. Man I would have been nervous taking off in the plane in weather like that. I'm not really a nervous flyer but that amount of snow is ridiculous.

How was the room on the cruise? Did the ids have their own separate room?

That amount of snow was actually just the beginning of the process. The worst part was sitting in the plane for 2 hours, as they had to de-ice us and they ended up shutting off the air vents so we didn't inhale the fumes. It was a bit bumpy getting up and over the clouds and I could feel a LOT of turbulence getting over the hump.

The room in the cruise was a bit cramped as we didn't have a suite, but we really didn't spend much time in our room so it wasn't horrible. There were twin beds for me, my wife, and two of the kids, while the third pulled out the sofa bed. We were pretty impressed they could get the five of us into a regular room (although the next time we go I think we may look at a suite).

The overall experience was great though, and definitely recommend it to anyone considering taking a trip. They usually have great promotions, and I enjoyed the fact that the kids sailed for free on ours.

We did the normal dinners on ours, save for the last night where we had a fancy dinner at the steakhouse on board. It was $30 for my wife and I, and $15 for the kids, but the food was incredible. I had Waygu beef sliders for the appetizer, a lettuce wedge, grilled bison strip (like a NY strip), and raspberry creme brulee for dessert. Needless to say the value was pretty good for most of the stuff we did.

The casino had subpar odds and payouts for games, but like I mentioned in an earlier thread, I plopped down a few bucks and won a (very) mini jackpot at the slots, but ended up walking away with $135-ish.

I could go on forever, but I will sum it up by saying I had a great time. Smile

Ah that sounds pretty good. When we wen ton a cruise last year we had the kids in bunks directly above our bed which made it feel a little claustrophobic.

Nah, this was actually in February in the Bahamas. The kids are already bugging me to take them back there. Smile I told them that's where I want to move to!

I actually didn't have the time to play any of the casinos in Freeport or Nassau, but I did play for a bit on the ship. I won a nice amount on one spin (something like $120 or $130) and that win was capped by a jackpot win, although the jackpot was minuscule at just about $14.
