2015 Academy Awards predictions - win 100 CLchips

8 replies • Last post

NOT FOUND: oscarstatue.png
Hi everyone, apologies for taking a little longer to organise this one this year. Anyway once again feel free to enter our Academy Awards prediction competition.

1. Just nominate your winner in each of the categories below in a reply to this thread. The person who picks the most winners scoops the pool of 100 CLchips.
2. Entry is free.
3. If there is a tie we'll split the pool evenly.
4. If someone gets every single category right, we'll double the prize to 200 CLchips.
5. Entries close at the beginning of the Oscars ceremony which is February 22, 2015, 7pm U.S. Eastern time.
6. You can enter multiple times if you change your mind, but only your last dated post will be used as your entry.

You can see all the nominees here, but we are only tipping some of the categories. The categories you need to pick from are these (and don't forget the extra question at the end).

I wanna play! Smile I haven't watched as many movies this year (Didn't watch The Theory of Everything Yet or Whiplash or any of the movies that are in the Best Actor or Best Actress category that are NOT in the Best Picture category, nor have I done my research as thoroughly this year, but I will wing it here. I know there are also some close categories this year, too, including Best Picture.

Best Picture

Birdman (will be a very close match between this and Boyhood)

Actor In a Leading Role
I really wanted to see The Theory of Everything. Might watch it tonight. The previews look incredible.
I was impressed with Steve Carrol's dramatic performance in Foxcatcher, but I don't think he will win, so I am going with ......
Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything

Actress In a Leading Role
I really wanted to watch Still Alice before the award show. I love Julianne Moore. I was NOT impressed with Rosamond Pike's Gone Girl performance, because she just didn't blend with how I imagined the character in the book, plus not impressed with her acting in general. I was surprised she even received a nomination.

Julianne Moore - Still Alice

Actor In a Supporting Role
Mark Ruffalo gave a performance that left NO DOUBTS he'd be nominated for an award for his performance in Foxcatcher. Unfortunately, I don't think it's his to win.
Going with...
J.K. Simmons in Whiplash. I have a strong feeling this is his year.

J.K. Simmons - Whiplash

Actress In a Supporting Role

I REALLY liked the Imitation Game, so I am sorry none of my choices reflect that. But, seriously CL-Friends, this actress BEST win an award for her amazing performance in Boyhood.
Patricia Arquette - Boyhood

Directing
Oh, SO CLOSE between Inarritu and Linklater. Who do I pick? Who do I pick? Ugh, this is a tough one, so maybe I will flip a coin and say........

Richard Linklater - Boyhood

Cinematography
The "experts" are saying Birdman for best Cinematography, but I my immediate thought for Cinematography was Grand Budapest - I thought it would be a shoo in. But what do I know? I will go with a two in a year row win (he won for last year's Gravity)...............
Birdman - Emmanuel Lubezki

Animated Feature Film

I don't know much about this category, so I will just pick one that sounds most familiar to me.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

Well, here goes nothing! Thanks for another FUN contest! Smile

So happy to see some competition! Wish more had entered, but there's always next year.

Out of all 24 categories, I was able to get 18 out of 24 correct. I think I did better last year, but I am not sure.

I enjoyed the show this year! My biggest disappointment of the night was that Linklater did not receive best director. I mean a film 12 years in the making deserves it for the concept and hard work, commitment and dedication alone, but hey? Like I said, what do I know? I do believe he deserved it, and I was sad he didn't receive the Oscar. Otherwise, there are too many highlights to mention here and not many upsets or surprises, but it was fun, all in all.

I finished Whiplash last night, and..............awesome movie! I loved the ending. J.K. Simmons deserved his award - he played a total asshole who called some names I have never heard before watching this film. lol

I saw the bit where he was slapping the kid. Looked like a really intense movie. I want to check it out for sure.

Well Hope777, our resident movie nut has nailed it with 6 correct out of 9 categories:
Best picture: Birdman
Actor in a leading role: Eddie Redmayne
Actress in a leading role: Julianne Moore
Actor in a supporting role: J.K. Simmons
Actress in a supporting role: Patricia Arquette
Cinematography: Birdman

Chelsea, thanks for playing but even with the late entry you only got 3, so Hope77 takes home the bacon (or should I say 100 CLchips!)
