Black Friday Deals

12 replies • Last post

One of my favorite times of the year is popping up again soon: Black Friday!

I always get excited to see if there are any deals worth having during the weekend following Thanksgiving, and this year is no exception. I haven't really looked too deeply into the leaked ads yet, but Best Buy is going to have FIFA and Madden for PS4 for $30. My wife and I have a discount membership there, meaning that I can get them for $24 a piece.

There are also several great deals on 4K TVs this year, but we recently just got one so we have no need.

What are you looking forward to getting this year on a BF deal?

This must be an American only thing (obviously with Thanksgiving being involved). We don't really have these sales. Although I think from memory someone tried to do something similar here a couple of years ago and it was a miserable failure with servers crashing and people unable to buy anything.

Yep, some of our shops look on USA and like always copy something(big, big problem for all Eastern Europe - too much watching on West countries and trying to do same), so we have had something like this, but generally shops just even earn more money on this, because they up price for 50%, then write DISCOUNT 30% GO BUY IT lol

Toys R Us does seem to have a lot of good deals. My wife and I will sometimes go just to people watch when my mom and dad occasionally take them for Thanksgiving weekend. There is just something magical about watching a herd of people run down a Wal-Mart aisle to get a $30 microwave...

I think the best time to go to Wal-Mart is the first of the month, lots of goofy characters there, but if you cannot make it to see the creatures, they some how make it on the internet anyway,

Lol, yes they do. People of Wal-Mart is a brilliant site that shows some amazing photos.

Fun fact: I used to work at Wal-Mart when I was sixteen years old in the garden area, where I used to water the flowers in the garden area. Once a month we used to throw away the damaged goods in the store and there would always be people picking up broken swing sets and other garbage right out of the dumpster. I couldn't believe that the people would put them together and let their kids play on something that was obviously not safe, as aluminum pipes were crushed and twisted to the point of breaking.

There is something similar in Australia, but it's called the Boxing Day sale and happens the day after Christmas.
In the past it used to be the time where you could get amazing discounts particularly on white goods and other big ticket items. And people used to queue for hours before the stores open to be the first to grab a good deal. They always showed the stampede of people on the news that night, used to be a dangerous sport, the boxing day sales Smile

But the retailers here in Sydney don't seem to do this much anymore....people still go out to get their Boxing Day sales fix....but the discounts just aren't the same.

Oh yes I forgot about that because I never go. There's something incredibly stupid about queueing up in the early hours of the morning outside the door to a department store just so you can be the first to run in and buy something. In fact it reminds me of the crazies that line up at midnight to buy a new iPhone or Playstation when they could just order online or wait a couple of days and walk in and buy it easily.
