Interstellar

9 replies • Last post

I went to see Interstellar at the movies last night. If you like sci-fi then it is great, if you like "realistic" sci-fi then it is even better. Its very reminiscent of movies like 2001 A Space Odyssey or Solaris, rather than action packed Star Wars type of film.

By realism I mean stuff like no sound in space, time dilation, what a giant black hole really looks like and many others. Of course there is plenty of unbelievable and ridiculous stuff in there too, but that is to be expected from a movie. It is very long though (nearly 3 hours) and I can see how some people would say it drags on.

I'm still struggling to get my head around the causal loop in the movie though, and I'm not sure that the course of events that happened in the movie is actually possible. Kind of spoiler alert.... Its the old paradox of something in the future helps someone in the past but the person in the past has to use that help to do something to make the help from the future possible. I know that sounds kind of vague but if anyone wants a spoiler filled discussion here is the place.

I am officially jealous. I really want to see this one, but I know I will have to go solo as my wife hates going to the theater, unless it is Hunger Games and then she's game.

Yeah I went out with the boys, my Mrs was not interested.

See it on as big a screen as you can. There are some breathtaking scenes.

I know, I REALLY want to see this. I really am trying to get down to the IMAX theater to see it, but may just cave and hit the regular theater as it is 5 miles away versus the 75 that the IMAX screen is.

Yes as I was saying when I first posted, its not an action packed movie. But I still thought it was pretty good.
