PSA: eBay hacked - change your password

2 replies • Last post

Did you see the article about the ebay hack? It looks like attackers were able to get hold of encrypted passwords and personal info. While that means that they don't know your password immediately, it is only a matter of time before the password is decoded, unless you have a super strong random long password.

So change your ebay password if you have an account. And if you are using the same email and password on ebay as other sites you should change your passwords on those sites too, just to be safe.

Also this is as good a time as any to remind everyone that you should use a different password on each site that you register, and preferably make them long and random. I know that makes it difficult to remember, so take a look at password management software like 1Password (paid) or Keepass (free), or just write them down on a piece of paper where they can't be accessed over the internet.

I just tried to change my password and I can't, all I get is this message:

Ebay is asking its users to reset their passwords due to the unauthorized access to our corporate information network. This may result in a delay of service due to the high traffic volume. We ask for your patience and that you return to eBay soon. In the meantime, please be assured that no activity can occur on your account until your password is reset.

Yes I heard this on the radio. Ebay was being compared to the Target breach, and they were actually saying Target handled it better than Ebay. All I know is I did change my password right away. This could happen anywhere at anytime these days. We all have to be careful. Thanks for posting this, CL-Ed.
