Orphan Black - AMAZING SCI FI TV (and a bit about Fargo)

15 replies • Last post

I happened upon Orphan Black on couchtuner a week or so ago, and I fell in absolute LOVE with this show. The show is from the BBC (which also brings us the top-rated show Luther), is Sci Fi, which I typically do not care for, and the actress in this show is absolutely AMAZING! The thing is, I can't tell you why she is amazing without giving away the premise of the show.

With this show, THE LESS YOU KNOW about it before watching the better. Just know every episode is jam-packed with ACTION and it is one of those shows that when you finish an episode you cannot wait until the next. Thus, I binge watched, and Season Two just began, and the second episode of Season Two aired last night.

On another note, there is one more GREAT show that just started called Fargo, receiving a 9.2 on IMDB which is an incredible score for IMDB. If you love the Cohen Brothers and the movie Fargo, the TV show has a similar feel, although the Cohen Brothers are not involved in the TV show. The show stars Billy Bob Thornton and Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad fame, in addition to some others including Tom Hanks' son, Collin Hanks. I have watched the first two episodes, and the show is very promising.

Just wanted to recommend a few great shows in case anyone is looking for something new to watch.

Yours Truly,
Your resident TV show addict, Hope777 Wink

Timely post, I just got hold of this show the other day and I'm about to start watching it as I had read that it is really good. I know why the actress is amazing already though. Wink

A fargo TV show eh? I wonder if it will feature another "woodchipper in the snow" scene?

Lol, well it has been plenty violent already in the two episodes I watched. And please know that VERY FEW Minnesotans talk like that, lol. I remember how angry some were from how us Minnesotans were portrayed - no sense of humor at all! The TV show setting is a real small town that is north of me called Bemidji, Minnesota.

I didn't want to give it away about Orphan Black. Let me know what you think, okay? I just watched the second episode of the second season. Just when I think I have seen them all, I find another GREAT one. Wink

I haven't watched it yet. Last night was Game of Thrones night and nothing comes between me and that show!

That is one I haven't started yet. I will save for a future binge watch, lol. My middle son watches that one, and he doesn't watch near as many shows as I do (but few people do, lol). And I wonder where my time goes! lol!

It is well worth it, believe me. I have read the books and although they change a few things here and there it really is a very good adaptation. I might try to get started on Orphan Black this weekend if I have some spare time.

I finished the third episode of Fargo, and I am loving it. Billy Bob Thorton's character is like the devil himself, lol. Some very good acting and definitely the feel of the movie if you liked the movie. This one is going to go places, you betcha! lol Wink Tongue

I watched Season Two, Episode Three of Orphan Black last night, and the action never slows down a bit. I wish I could say so much more about the show in here, but I don't want to give anything away.

I will definitely get to Game of Thrones someday. I am bound to run out of things to watch eventually. Smile

I caught the first episode of Orphan Black last night. It was interesting but too early to call, I'm not hooked yet but I'll give it some more time. The people with English accents living in America thing confused me at first. I thought I heard an announcement at the start that said something about the next train to New York when she was at the station, but the early characters all had English accents so I wasn't sure what was going on.

The show actually is supposed to be based in Canada, from what I read, as that confused me a bit at first, too. You will hear why the two have English accents and who brought them to Canada as you keep watching. Keep me posted.

FARGO is getting excellent, too! Smile

Ah so its Canada is it? I watched the 2nd episode and I thought it was better than the first. They have some serious technical wizardry going on in this show when she is ... minor spoiler ... on screen multiple times at the same time.

I had a friend at football training tell me that Fargo is great too.

SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT READ IF YOU PLAN TO WATCH ORPHAN BLACK SOMEDAY, LOL!

That is what fascinates me about the show. And everyone has their favorite in "clone club" lol The woman DESERVES an Emmy, and she has won some awards. I love the action and the humor, the mystery and again, I usually don't care for "sci fi" but this is unique. I love her foster brother and also the cop that is Beth's partner. So many good actors, IMO. Glad you liked the second episode better. It really gets creepy soon with one of her doubles (well not doubles, since there are more than that, but you know what I mean, lol)

I know exactly what you mean as I have watched 7 episodes now and it has gotten very good with the introduction of the all the clones. The Ukrainian one is a complete wacko. I loved the episode with the party at Alison's (? I think, its hard to keep track of which one is which) house with everyone dog showing up and her pounding her husband with the golf club then tying him up and going at him with the hot glue gun. That was hilarious. She seems to have forgiven him but I still don't trust that guy.

Funny thing is I mentioned this show to a friend today and he said he watched the first episode and thought it wasn't very good and never watched another. I almost did that too. So I have encouraged him to give it another go.

I am fully caught up now, except for the most recent episode which aired yesterday or the day before. It has gotten better and better (although a bit ridiculous at times, but hey I can suspend disbelief) as it develops and I highly recommend it. The Alison character is truly hilarious. I really like the parts where she plays one clone pretending to be one of the other clones.
