Is It Cold Where You Are?

89 replies • Last post

We are currently at -3 degrees. Posting to see who has the lowest temperature this year. Also here is a video to help keep your warmer. I haven't tried it yet, but I do have the pots and I'm sure I have an old baking pan I can use. I just need to get the little tea lite candles. Here is the video. http://www.realfarmacy.com/how-to-heat-your-room-for-15-cents-a-day/ Let me know if you try this and if it works. I think anything to take the chill off right now would be good. We do have a propane heater, but we use that only as a last resort.

Good for you CL-Ed. 82 is just a little too hot for me. I want a warm spring day of about 70 degrees.Don't get too hot CL-Ed. I should not have complained above! Minus 3 was warm. Now it's minus 14!!!!

It is FREEZING here as well. Last night it got down to -3 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind chill making it feel between -10 to -15.

Needless to say, I slept with two blankets, socks on, and had the heat cranked up.

I am ready for it to be over already. I can do 0 degrees, but only if there is no wind. Any wind completely kills any like that I have for winter.

The only time I have ever felt cold like that was after going to the top of a mountain in Switzerland. I stuck my head over the edge at the top and got the coldest blast of wind firing up the side of the mountain into my face that I have ever felt. I thought I could probably snap my nose off without feeling it. It never gets that cold here.

I left Colorado one day when is was 70 degrees to travel back to Ohio. About halfway there it started snowing. The snow felt so cold that it felt like my body was wet and icy cold wind blowing on it.

We are a balmy 12 degrees now, so it did warm up!

We are having unseasonably COLD FRIGID weather even for Minnesota. It really sucks. Today is the first decent day in a while. We are having a heat wave with the predicted high of 36 degrees ABOVE zero for the day. From what I heard, last year we only had 12 days of below zero weather (and that typically takes place in January and February). This year we have already had over HALF that number of days in the below zero range. And I can't get used to this heat wave, because the high on Sunday will be 10 degrees above with the low being 6 degrees below. And that is not factoring in windchill, which makes the temps feel even lower.

This winter has been hell on the poor dogs and their little pads. Otis will walk around for a few minutes, then just freeze with one paw in the air. If he then tries to walk, he limps. It is pitiful. He won't wear booties, so I have to pick him up. Our neighbor's dog is decked out for winter complete with a hooded pink winter coat and booties, lol. She is a little Shitzu and looks so cute.

The sun is shining today. As far as the cold, it is even worse for me when the sun doesn't shine. I hate when we have several of those dark, dreary days in a row. Very hard on me. As long as the sun is shining, I can at least pretend it is decent out there, lol

Awwww....I am so jealous! My 85-year-old mom is now enjoying the balmy Florida weather. She calls and tells me it got down to the low 60s, so they are having a "cold spell." lol! I tell her I don't want to hear about her cold spells.

The ONLY reason I am here is due to my sons and my family. If I could talk them all into coming with me, I would be out of here so fast! And the only way I can ever do that is to win the lottery...or a nice, big online casino jackpot. lol Otherwise, I am stuck. I would love to get to the point where I could travel south for even two months of the coldest part of winter. Like right after Christmas, for Jan and Feb. THAT would even be SO NICE! I can keep dreaming, I guess! Smile

Have you had any snow?

We have had two or three big snowstorms so far, of course right during rush hour. During the last one, I had to travel to and from Mpls right during the WORST rush-hour times. Took me forty to fifty minutes to go 20 minutes away. Sad White knuckle-driving for sure!

I can only do days like today, where it is in the 30s with little wind. I love to ice skate when it is like this, but I haven't done so for years. I miss ice skating.

Crazy how when I was a kid none of it really affected me. I would ice skate until I couldn't feel my toes. We would go ice fishing a little, snowmobiling a lot, and play outside for hours. Even in my 20s I would take the boys ice skating and/or sliding down the big hills: on sleds and tubes and have a blast! The older I get, the less I can take it.

The sun was out today and the roads are clear so I can't complain. It's warmer now than it was. We've only had about maybe 8 inches of snow so far this year. I'm still ready for spring.

As I get older I want to move farther south too. Even 40 degree winters would be ok.

We've had a heatwave this week. It was up past 40 one day (celsius not fahrenheit) but it has cooled down a lot today which is a relief. I'm not sure which I would prefer - freezing cold or stinking burning hot. I think I might take the cold as long as I can sit inside with a nice warm fireplace or something.

I don't do heat well. I think I can handle the cold better, but I like to be outside and can't do that long in cold weather. We are currently at -5. This is especially cold weather for us, but I know the electric and heating companies love it.

It sure is cold where I live. Cold enough to freeze the nuts off a fully grown reind... ahem sorry, cold, very cold indeed. This time of year I do get to visit all parts of the world. Some are cold, some are warm, but if I can share a little Santa secret with you all, whizzing through the air at the speed I do is colder than the hair on a polar bear's butt. Merry Christmas everybody.

I am the opposite. LOVE the heat and never complain about it in the summer. I find it much easier to cool down than to warm up. I just hate being cold! Sad

Yesterday and today were heat waves in MN. If winter was like today (and yesterday) I could honestly handle it. Sun was shining and mid thirties to lower forties. Today was 44, but there was a cooler wind, so it probably felt more like the 30s, but after the frigid, biting cold we have had, I will take it any way. I miss ice skating, and I used to love to skate outdoors on days like today.

But not to last.

High today: 44 degrees
HIGH tomorrow: 2 BELOW

I am NOT looking forward to the next five days. All highs below zero or a little above zero, then on Friday it is supposed to be back up to 32 degrees (with a low of 1 above and if they don't change their minds by then, lol). I always say no wonder people in MN get sick in the winter which such constant, drastic changes in the weather. I so wish I could hibernate and plan my hibernation days ahead and according to the weather forecast. lol

Oh, and poor Otis finally was able to go for a little walk TWO days in a row, without his paws freezing to the ground and limping from the numbness and sting. One little walk yesterday and two today. Now he will be back to only being able to stay out long enough to do what he went out for (checking his pee mail lol). I know he is going to gain back the few pounds he lost over the summer, because we have had an unusually large number of days below zero already this year. Take me away! Cool

I was watching the Vikings/Lions game today and they were talking about how cold it is in Minnesota right now. I know all of that weather is coming here in a day or two... not looking forward to it.

It was colder than a freezer there today!

I don't know if you would want to be here either. Parts of the country have been having a massive heatwave with temps up to 46C (115 in American) and its expected to continue.

Its crazy just how differently the temperature swings are between our two sides of the world right now. I think about the warm weather and clamor for it, while you would probably like it to be 30-40 degrees cooler.

I think the acceptable solution for me is to move near the equator, where it is always warm.

That is a bit warm, CL-Ed. Is it also high humidity or is it dry there? I am thinking the former? Is it like "tropical" there like Florida or more dry like Arizona and Nevada? We get some very hot days in the summer with high humidity. Still I take that over this cold any day.

Right now is 6 below zero. The high today should make it all the way up to 1 above and the low is 13 below. No wonder Oti's paws froze in about 30 seconds this morning and he started doing the holding the paw up thing, followed by the pitiful limping. Tomorrow looks like a heat wave, though! The high is predicted to be 25 ABOVE with a low of 12 degrees above. But there is still more bad news:
Sundays high is predicted to be 4 BELOW and the low 22 BELOW
Mondays HIGH is 11 BELOW and the low 24 BELOW.

Of course I have to travel on Monday What timing. We are not out of the teens above for as long as the forecast is posted except for tomorrow and Saturday. This has been the TOTAL opposite of some of the mild winters we had a few years back. I honestly wish I could hibernate during those frigidly cold days. I would be totally happy not leaving the house until spring. lol
