Your Holiday Setup

17 replies • Last post

After Hope posted about holiday plans and all, I decided that I would take a picture of my living room once I got our Christmas decorations set up. Mine is attached here, but what does your holiday themed setup look like? What are your favorite ornaments on your tree?

I've got lots of teddy bear ornaments that I used to put on the tree. We haven't put up a tree in many years though. I do have a lighted ceramic tree that brightens up the area.

When my kids were at home we would always have a tree and decorations.

Waiting to see what Slim puts up. Smile

Loling @ CL-Ed! Wink

LOVE the set up, 'Slim. I love the fire place (miss mine so much!) and how the tree reflects in the window. That looks like one cozy living room. I always hate taking it all down, because I find all the lights hypnotizing and very peaceful. I have done NOTHING yet, but I will write more later. I just had to comment on the photo: very pretty!

That looks very cozy with the fire going.

We haven't put our tree up yet. The kids are gagging to do it though so I might try this weekend.

That looks very pretty and very Christmassy. I think it's most fun to decorate when there are kids around.

I know a lot of people don't like real trees anymore, but I TRULY MISS putting up my real tree every year. I love the trees with the long needles, and I always had a huge tree with TONS of decorations. We never have done the "Better Homes and Gardens," thing, we always put up our family ornaments, a mish-mash of everything: ornaments homemade by the children, vintage ornaments from my childhood and from my grandma and mom and so on. We have this really cool old boxer ornament that the boys love, and they each have one from the year they were born; and of course, I have a lot of dachsund ornaments.

Since moving from a large townhouse to a small apartment, I have had to scale things down, and I still enjoy putting a few things up, along with my now tiny (and fake) tree. At least I can display some of what I have, and I always dread taking it down, because it does liven up the little space.

So here are my photos: my Santa collection, my little "Christmas corner," with the tree, my table with my Christmas pig, and yes that is a giant dachsie statue with a Santa hat on (sometimes I put it on Otis, lol) and my little snowman (snow people?) table. Enjoy! Smile

Look at all those Santas! My daughter came in and saw me looking at that and was very impressed. Now she wants to hoard Santas too!

I read the other day about this guy who has worked out that he can re-use his real xmas trees. He plants 4 or 5 and lets them grow during the year then cuts off one and uses it inside at xmas time. When xmas is over he puts the tree back on to the stump and secures them together and eventually it knits back together. And because he has 5 trees, it has 5 years to grow strong before it is used again.

Here's our plasticy xmas tree with lights on. There are presents under the tree since I took that photo which always makes it look a whole lot better! Both my kids have been told the story about their naughty uncle who opened his presents early one year only to find that they were filled with lumps of coal. In reality he just played with his stuff and got in trouble when my parents found out but that story doesn't work so well as a deterrent.

Hope and Ed: Great Setups! That is a great idea with the re-joining Christmas trees, Ed. I am going to have to Google it to find out more about it.

My kids are getting SO excited for Christmas that they can't stand it. I am getting daily requests to open "just one present" and such. Its less than a week away!

Ed, do you guys do "Elf on the Shelf" in Australia? Its this deal where you have one of Santa's elves stay in your house during the Christmas season to watch the kids. Every night the elf goes and reports to Santa about the behavior, and then comes back and hides somewhere differently. It is kind of neat and the first thing my kids do in the morning is search for "Ruby".

Many here collect snowmen, but I decided I was in love with Santa, so I wanted to collect Santas, lol. Did you notice the "gangster Santa" to the right on the TV stand? My son did that years ago, and I just kept it like that, lol.

I will have to take a picture of that old boxer ornament

CL-Ed I also like the idea of reusing the trees. I didn't know one could do that. I have heard of people putting their trees out in the yard and attaching things for the birds, but I didn't know they would repair themselves: that is way cool!

Also, I like your tree, and I see some homemade ornaments on yours, too. Smile Those are the kind of trees I love.

Hope, I had no idea you collected Santas. Nice collection there. Your setup looks very homey and inviting. I love that you have a stocking for Otis. I'm assuming there is one for Olivia, but couldn't read the names.

Pretty tree CL-Ed.

Slim, I can remember my kids asking to open presents early too. I usually let them. It seemed to take a little anxiety off all the excitement from them. Sometimes they wanted to open two though so it can get out of hand.

If you click on the photo it will become large enough to read the names. The stocking to the far right is Olivia's, as it even has a cat on it. lol My Santa collection has not grown for a while, which is fine with me in my little space. lol I just love the lights, and if I didn't put anything else up, I would always put up some lights. A few years I even put them around my living room window, but this year I didn't bother with that.

I didn't see it first time - I'm assuming its the guy with the bandana around his face?

I have not heard of elf on the shelf but I think this needs to start happening in my house. My two have been all over the presents this week, picking them up, holding them to their ear to see if they make a sound, shaking them etc. And every day its "can we just open one present" or "I can't wait until Christmas, its not fair" etc. We told them you want to see whats really not fair? No presents for Christmas...
