R.I.P Elmore Leonard

4 replies • Last post

Last month we lost actor James Gandolphi and writer Vince Flynn, and this month one of the greatest writers of our time, Elmore Leonard.

Elmore Leonard wrote for over sixty years, and he can been seen in every library and used book store across the country. He is well known for writing the book that became the movie, "Get Shorty."

One of my ATF television shows, Justified, is based on his novels.

Elmore Leonard, you will be missed, but you have left much behind. May you rest in peace.

I never really watched any of his movies, but was surprised to hear this guy literally lived right around the corner from my grandparents down by Detroit.

Kinda crazy.

Wow, that is really cool! I would have tried to get his autograph, lol. Truly a small world, sometimes, isn't it? Smile

Elmore Leonard did more writing of novels than actual movies and TV. He is actually an author. The movie, "Get Shorty" (with John Travolta, Gene Hackman, Rene Russo, and Danny DeVito and, ironically, James Gandolphi) was a movie that was based on one of his novels. The TV show Justified is based on a combination of three of his novels, I believe.

Some of his oldest books are the old 50-cent paperbacks. You find Elmore Leonard books in every library, used book store, and library sales, typically. He wrote SO much, and for sixty years, so his books are EVERYWHERE! Smile He will be missed.

This talks more about all his books, and it gives examples of more TV shows and movies that were based on his novels. There are quite a few. I just mentioned "Get Shorty" and "Justified" as two of the most well known.

If you Google "Elmore Leonard Books," you will see several book covers pop up on the page. There are SO many!

Finally, his website:

Sounds like there is one more book becoming a movie, called "The Switch." I will definitely be watching for that movie.

I also miss Vince Flynn's books, because he wrote such good political thrillers.

So much talent out there. These men definitely made their marks during their journeys through life. Smile
