Why I Hate Basketball

6 replies • Last post

I have had this conversation for years regarding why I hate basketball so much. I just think that the players are big old babies who hobble off with little sissy injuries, and that fouls are called for slapping the arm of a 7 foot tall guy are ridiculous.

This graphic sums up why I hate basketball so much and love hockey.

Anyone agree/disagree?

Too funny. I loved traveling basketball back my sons' high school days. Those were the days and the games were so exciting! But as for the pros, I tend to agree with you. Although I don't like watching the hockey fights break out and the blood flying, either. Love the captioned photos. lol!

I don't like basketball for many reasons. Its "heightist" so that only abnormally tall people can succeed. Even the short players are tall compared to most people.

It is also far too easy for both teams to score and quickly becomes a monotonous repetitive spectacle of basket after basket. I have a hunch that when the game was invented they fully intended that the basket was to be placed so high that no man could reach it. Now both men and women can dunk. I say raise it another metre higher. The end result is that last 3 minutes (that usually take 10 or more to complete with all the timeouts) are often the only interesting part of the game and only if it is a close one.

And lastly it also falls firmly into the group of sports that need music, dancing girls, people in character suits, and all that other "entertainment" to compensate for the lack of actual entertainment provided by the sport. To my mind when you see all that stuff it's a sad reflection of how uninteresting the actual game is.

That is true, Ed. I never considered that, but you are right. How often do you see that at a soccer match?

Not often, but then again you do get a lot of cheats rolling around like fairies after minimal contact trying to milk a foul or a card for their opponent!

Hmm... I think basketball and soccer have something in common!
