What happened to Casino Listings?

14 replies • Last post

CL--Ed you put us all into major withdrawals. lol I noticed things slowing down yesterday, then today, "poof" you were gone.

We missed the site, and I, for one, am glad to have Casino Listings back! 🙂

Yes, glad CL is back up. I tried several times to get in, but got a message that site was down.

I am not sure all of what happened, but to me it appeared that there was some sort of server issue. Good to see that it is back up!

I believe the technical term is "MAJOR ISSUES"!

We've had so many new and returning visitors over the past couple of months that our traffic has grown to a level that we weren't really set up to handle. Things started to slowly go wrong in weird ways that we could not explain. Images would not attach to posts, the site would return strange error messages when we tried to post an article or forum post, and then it began to go slooooow. Paranoid thoughts of evil hackers started to cross my mind.

However it was a bit more mundane than that. A process called memcache crashed which massively increased the load on our database as instead of fetching a webpage from the server's memory when requested, it had to be re-generated from the database for every single visitor. Our database server simply ran out of memory due to the load on it which made the whole place go haywire for the best part of a day. It still isn't back to where we would like it to be but our hosting guys at MediaLayer (free plug!) have been really good about keeping us up and coping! We've been trying to keep an eye on it and it seems to be back to somewhere near normal, though not operating as fast as it did before things went pear-shaped.

Anyway we're considering a server upgrade after that little scare but that presents its own issues.

Always play it safe! Consult our list of rogue casinos and warnings before depositing at a new casino.
Post in our forums to earn CLchips which can be used to buy real prizes in our CLchips shop.

Welcome back from Purgatory! At least the problems were caused by site growth and not some nut jobs trying to take you down!

That does not sound like fun at all, but I am also glad you are not dealing with any type of hackers. I hope everything gets completely resolved and stays that way, for your sake!

Thank you for taking the time to explain.
