So, I got a new phone...

5 replies • Last post

Less than a month ago I ended up getting a replacement phone for my iPhone as the battery was starting to go to hell. I opted for a Motorola Droid Razr M and was satisfied with it. It was a free phone with the contract extension, got 4G and was overall a very serviceable phone.

Until yesterday.

I was brushing my teeth and had the sink running when I got a call. Thinking it was maybe important, I went to pull it out of my pants, fumbled it in the air, and dropped it right into the sink! Now, they tell me my phone is "splash resistant", but this did not help in this case. The phone is shot.

Have you ever done this before? I feel so clumsy all the time because of what I have going on, and this was especially annoying.

I was lucky that I ended up putting insurance on the phone. I've had phones for more than 10 years and never put insurance on it. Something told me this last time that I needed to because of my clumsiness. I ended up getting lucky in that aspect because they didn't have my phone anymore. They wanted to give me a two year old phone but I nicely asked them if they could get me one with a specific feature. They ended up giving me a Droid DNA, which is a big upgrade from what I originally had.

I'm lucky in some aspects. Others not so much. 😜

Wow, that is great that you got a better phone. I have heard that people put them in a sealed bag and let them dry out and they still work. Google "drying out phones". I know in some cases it works and in some cases it doesn't work. Accidents happen so don't beat yourself up about it.

I have dropped my phone several times and it still works. Time for a new one though, but I really don't want another two year contract. I may just keep it til it dies. It's pink. I used to have a purple one.

Yeah, I tried the rice in a bag trick and no dice. In fact the screen won't turn on any more. Oh well, my new phone is coming today (just in time for my trip to New York).

Let's hope this one is a little more barbadosslim proof.

LMAO @ "barbadosslim-proof." 😂

My youngest dropped his phone straight down into a glass of water. Could not do that again if he tried, lol! It actually dried out after like five days.

And you are not the only one whose mom should have named you "Grace," 'Slim. Remember my trick of pouring a glass of water all over my laptop's keyboard? Drying it out did not do the trick for me, either. And right when I was in the middle of teaching an online class. Thank goodness for my awesome computer guy who, although he teases me mercilessly, saves my butt, time and time again. lol

I always say, this is why we call these things "accidents," because that is exactly what it was. Something we SO wish we could take back, but unfortunately, we don't get a redo.

Hang on tight to that new phone! 🙂

A friend said they tipped over a boat with their new phone on board. They took the battery out, let the phone dry out for a few days and it still worked.
