What do you all think about Google Glass?

6 replies • Last post

Maybe I am behind the times, friends, but I only heard about this on the radio yesterday for the first time ever.

I am still trying to figure out the purpose of this, so if someone could clue me in, that would be great, lol! 🙂

I heard they will retail for $1500, then go down to about half that price shortly after.

Looks kind of like a blue tooth for the eye. lol

Looking for your input and opinions.

I'm not sure how I feel about this device. I loved the video though. That's too expensive for me, but I'm sure the price will come down after a few years. Seems like it would make it very easy to take videos. This is the first time I've heard about it Hope.

I don't buy the argument from Brin in the wired article that phones encourage people to be socially isolated while they are checking them whereas these glasses will not because the info will be in front of your eyes at all times. Its not too hard to imagine "zombies" walking around staring into space a few metres in front of them oblivious to what is going on around them. I like having downtime. I don't want to walk around constantly bombarded with information, reminders, emails the instant they come in etc. Not in the target market I guess!

How long do you reckon it will take for them to be hacked so that when you look at someone it overlays naked pictures on their body? I'm betting on a few weeks tops.

Ed, that is the exact reason I need these. Now.

Google is primarily an advertising company, and although I don't find their ways of integrating ads obtrusive, you know they are going to be finding ways to push those ads into anything displayed.

I'm interested to see if anyone actually buys this.

For sure. Remember that Tom Cruise movie Minority Report (where they butchered the original story) where every time he went near a shop a huge personalised ad popped up addressing him by name and tried to sell him something? I'm thinking this is going the same way only on a more private level. I'm imagining that you could look towards a certain shop and if they are on Google Adwords their ads would be shown to you. It's hard to imagine something that I would be less enthusiastic about - getting poked in the eye with a sharp stick perhaps?

EXACTLY! This already happens with the smart phones. Walk into a store or coffee shop and a coupon or discount is sent to your phone.

Like that article my son sent me years ago. No longer do we have to worry about "big brother" watching, but instead, "many little brothers will be watching." Google Glass could encourage this to continue on another level.
