The 85th Annual Academy Awards! They're HERE!!!

21 replies • Last post

Hello CL Friends,

I am so excited this time of year!

This is a good link. Scroll over the movie and the actor's names and the photo will change. It also has trailers for all the films.

http://oscar.go.com/nominees

I haven't seen many of the movies yet, but being a movie buff, I always try to see as many as possible before the awards. I still don't know how I feel about them adding so many more movies to the Best Movie category. It seems strange that a movie can be nominated and not the director of that film.

I think it is interesting than an eight-year-old has been nominated: Youngest ever and oldest ever nominated are in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role.

What about the Oscar snubs this year? No Ben Affleck? And what does the academy have against Leonardo DiCaprio? Anyone else you feel has been snubbed or any movies you feel should have gotten more credit?

I don't watch ANY award shows EXCEPT the Grammys and the Academy Awards, and the Academy Awards are my absolute favorite. I love the Academy Awards, lol! 🙂

Are we going to have a CL pool again this year? I had fun last year, and i hope you all did, too! 🙂

How many of the movies have you seen? Any early predictions?

Ubetcha

Lol! Aren't you supposed to be at WORK? haha! Just kidding. I put up another video.

I am really happy about Homeland, Christopher Waltz (sp?) for Django Unchained and Adelle for Skyfall. I want to find Jodi Foster's speech, because there is buzz about it and I am looking for a few more this morning.

I also adore Jessica Chastain: SO glad she won! She was my FAVORITE character in The Help. 🙂

Even though I don't watch, it had to be a good one with Tina Fey and Amy Phoeller (sp?) hosting!

Lol! Tina Fey told Taylor Swift to "stay away from Michael J. Foxx's son!" I am enjoying watching a bunch of clips this morning. Going to watch Jodi Foster's acceptance for a Lifetime Achievement Award now. 🙂

This one is longer, over 13 minutes:

I don't usually watch the Golden Globes, as I said above, but I love viewing the highlights. I WILL be watching the Oscars.

Django Unchained has caused a lot of buzz and controversy, but personally, I really liked the movie. It WAS long, but it is one of those movies that is so good you really don't realize how long it is. I LOVED the role of Christopher Waltz (and still don't know if I am spelling that last name correctly). He was SO funny!

I watched Beasts of the Southern Wild last night and wrote about it in the movie thread.

And my son is bringing home Zero Dark Thirty, so I am on a roll for watching Academy Award winning movies

Now I am loading Shameless (American Version), because Season 3, first episode aired last night. I am going to watch that and THEN get to work, lol.

You can catch up on ALL episodes for free on Project Free TV. That is where I watch ALL my cable shows. I only pay 18 dollars per month for TV (Neflix and streaming through my TV). The PLUS is NO commercials. I go crazy watching things on TV now, because I am not used to commercials anymore, lol. And, YES! Shameless is awesome! So funny, but believe me they push that envelope from time to time, lol.

Yes. Some tips if you try Project Free TV. You google it and then search for your show in the search bar. Be sure to choose Shameless 2010 or you will get the British version. There will be a list of links to choose from to stream. I prefer the following three: Putlocker, Sockshare, Movshare. If one does not work or stops in the middle of the video, just go back and try another and you can catch the show up to where you were by moving the bar on the bottom. Once in a while you have to wait for the show to load, but those three are very fast.

Also, if a box pops up that says you have to sign up for Project Free, just click out of that. You don't have to enter any information EVER.

When you start the show you will likely get TWO pop up windows. Just click out of those right away, too.

That is all I can think of for now.

If I can't find things there, I also look on SideReel or Tube Plus (mainly movies on TubePlus), but Project Free is my favorite.

Let me know if you have any issues. I LOVE my Project Free TV, where I watch TONS of cable shows, lol

My son downloads everything on Torrenz, and I do that once in a while, but usually streaming works well for me.

I sent CL-Ed a PM about this. I will let you know when he responds, or maybe he will respond here. Glad there is continued interest in doing this again this year. I had fun! 🙂

Lol! You sound like me. Right now I am on unemployment and working PT, reporting that income against my unemployment. Anyway, I always say, "when did I ever find TIME to work FULL TIME?" lol It is true there are not enough hours in the day for me. For the last several years now, I feel like I wake up the in the morning, blink, then it is time to go to bed. Of course January days tend to go a bit slower.....lol.

yea i was on unemployment for quit awhile last year. its getting so hard to find a job anymore. half my family is on unemployment they were all factory workers and most our big factories have either gone under or are not hiring. the job i have now isnt bad it just dosent pay enough..thats y i have to wait till tax time to make any deposits. heres a stupid question i know we arent supposed to cash out with on line casinos but has anyone ever cashed out enough that they had to pay taxes on it? and if so how did they do it with out being caught?

That is a great question to put in the forum for CL-Ed or maybe even 'Slim knows. I have thought about this very subject before, but I have never researched or asked about it. I know at the land casinos everyone says they want to stay under 1200, 1199 being tops so they don't have to have taxes taken out right there at the casino, which is why it is almost better to win smaller amounts instead of the big jackpots/hand pays, but I am sure the rest is technically supposed to be reported, too.

That's all I know, lol! 🙂

The taxes one depends on where you live and the law there. I think for Americans you are technically supposed to report your gambling winnings. Where I live lottery or gambling wins are not taxed unless you are a professional gambler.

OMGosh, are you kidding me? I am SO moving to Australia! Here, if you win a hand pay at the casino or more than $1199.00 they take the taxes out immediately, leaving you with a little more than half of what you won. That is why it is almost better to win small amounts.

Also, I am not sure if this is accurate or not, but this is what I heard recently. Before, say you win a large amount at the casino or on a lottery ticket. You would then have the entire year to try to make it a "wash," by collecting losing tickets and reporting that against it, etc. Someone told me that now you can only report against your winnings what you lost in ONE DAY. I am not sure if that is accurate. I supposed I should start learning and researching, but I do not doubt that is true.

Speaking of moving, CL-Ed, I was going to post a link, and I will have to find it soon. The link rated the top places in the world to live, and Switzerland came in first, and your Australia came in second! You can be proud of your country. Oh, and do you have a guest room? lol! 🙂

Yeah but we're also up there in recent lists for the most expensive place to live in the world. Houses are ridiculously overpriced and everything here costs more than where you live, I guarantee it. All the retailers are bitching and moaning because people having been going online en-masse to buy stuff from overseas because everything here is a rip off. Anyway I digress.
