Happy Thanksgiving, CL Friends!

14 replies • Last post

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to post to you all before I hit the road in the morning. I should be home on TH night and I should have my very own computer again on Friday, if all goes well. Can you guess what I will be doing this week end? lol

Anyway, I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for friends and family and pets, especially Olivia and Otis.

What are you thankful for today?

CL-Ed

Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends. I hope you have a special time with your family and friends.

Hope, its good to hear Otis is feeling a bit better and with you for another Thanksgiving. Are you taking him with you?

I'm always thankful for my beautiful family, but more urgently than that I am thankful that the Chinese dumpling shop down the road is open for lunch because I am damn hungry right now!

Hope, Safe travels to you and your family. I know you will have fun.

I am thankful to have food to eat, and be in a nice warm house this year.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Haha! I am hungry, too, CL-Ed. Pick me up a few of those Chinese dumplings, okay? Does Australia celebrate Thanksgiving? I know our friends in Canada celebrate in October, I believe it is?

And, yes, Otis joins us for all holidays. He loves going to my mom's house, "grandma's" lol. He goes to my brother's with us on Christmas Eve, too. We are SO happy to have him with us, and thanks to all my generous friends.

I have an update I can post when I return. He is doing well and enjoyed his walk in 50 degree weather today, which is highly unusual for November in Minnesota, but I will take it! My dad always called it "Turkey Day" and Otis loves Turkey Day. lol Although one year, I had to have a stern talk with my nephews when I saw them on Christmas, because they fed him so much when I was not watching he got sick the next day (a few years back). He can have a LITTLE something, but only if they ask me first from now on!

Happy Turkey Day, everyone! 🙂

No, no thanksgiving at all in Australia. To tell the truth I'm not even sure what its all about. I know I have looked it up before but I seem to have forgotten!

/wikipedia...

It seems it has its roots as a harvest festival. And something I did not know - they celebrate it on Norfolk Island which is a semi-autonomus island off the coast of Australia. So technically we do celebrate it in Australia, only on this one tiny island.

Yes Cl_Ed it was a harvest festival with the Pilgrims and native Americans when the Pilgrims first landed on the shores of America and the Native Americans helped them with agriculture or so we were told in our history lessons in elementary school. 😉
Personally I am grateful every day for all the blessings bestowed on family and friends and myself. Thanksgiving Day is just an annual outward show of this gratitude.

I think now it is all about football, stuffing ourselves sick with turkey, family, and BLACK Friday, which I will have NO part of. lol! Many people believe we should not celebrate, due to the native Americans, but it is a long tradition. I am always surprised how I spend the entire day cooking, and it is over in minutes, as my family, made up mainly of young men and boys, stuff themselves in minutes. lol LOTS of good food, and always turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pumkin pie (and more!). I do enjoy another excuse to get together with my family. That is the best part for me. 🙂

We have no family close by so it is usually a sad day for us. Most of the time I'm glad when it's over.

Someday you will be close to your family during the holidays, LuckyMe. I know you two made the most of it. 🙂

I so enjoyed seeing my family, and as usual there were few leftovers. I am going to make another turkey in a few weeks, just for us. lol I will just make the turkey, dressing, and mashed potatoes and gravy, then I will freeze the carcass for some yummy soup later on. We had 16 people there to cook for, and among them, many big boys, and young men, so appetites are big ones. lol

I am also glad it is over, and now the countdown until Christmas Eve, which is more madness, but I love it. lol
