I Gotta Brag

7 replies • Last post

Today my 8 year old daughter was admitted to the gifted school in my area. She had been bored with the work at her recent school (they are teaching addition and subtraction, but she is working on fractions at home), and we decided to have her tested to see if she could go to a school that would actually challenge her.

She took the test and got almost 100%. Today she was officially admitted, and she starts Thursday. We just went and bought her school uniforms and are getting everything all prepped.

We are sooo excited and proud of her.

There's my gloat!

Awwww....that is a proud daddy, lol!

That is wonderful news. You do want to keep her challenged. Many students who display behavioral challenges are actually very bright and simply bored to tears! I was able to find programs for my middle son within his public school where he attended special enrichment classes and programs, and the teachers were so good at assigning him different ways to help his peers, and at the same time he was reviewing and learning.

I hope she enjoys her new school and does very well there. Does she say yet what she would like to be when she grows up? Some say from a young age and some take a while to decide, but it sure sounds like she is on her way to making a difference in the world. 🙂

That is something to brag about. I hope she feels adequately challenged at the new school.

She says she wants to be a doctor. She likes the idea of being able to make people feel better. She is pumped up and excited to be able to participate in Spirit Day for her first day. She gets to wear something to represent her favorite sports team.

Oh Slim that is so very good!!!! Children do need to be challenged in the academic area or they just give up and fall into the "average". Congrats to her and a back slap to you for recognizing this!!!!

How has she been going there? Does she enjoy it more than her regular school?

She has been enjoying the school more than her other one, and she finds it is the right balance of being challenging while not being TOO challenging.

She gets to wear uniforms and has to be there an extra hour each day, but she really seems to be adjusting well. She is making lots of friends and already looking into joining various clubs at the school.

🙂

That is great. They don't have selective classes here until year 5 which must be around age 10. It is very difficult to get in as there are parents that are paying for their kids to be tutored after school for years leading up to the exams.
