Anyone Got A 3DTV?

11 replies • Last post

I was at the store the other day (I broke our stove) and while my wife was purchasing a new appliance (a stove, because I broke it) I decided to check out the televisions. I came across the neatest 3DTV I have ever seen. It used the movie theater glasses and absolutely popped out. It was incredible! Things had depth, and a shark looked like it was literally swimming outside of the television.

Needless to say, I want one but can't afford it. Do any of you have a 3DTV? What do you think of them?

I guess it was just a matter of time. I haven't even graduated to a flat screen yet, let alone something this fancy, lol. I still have my mom's old TV, and as long as it works.........

My father has one. Not because he wanted 3d but because its pretty hard to buy a new flat screen one without it these days. I think he has a Samsung.

Anyway I wasn't very impressed to be honest. The need to wear glasses is a killer for me. You're stuffed if you have one more person who wants to watch something than you have glasses. And the glasses are not cheap as they have a battery and have to be switched on and off when you use them, unlike the cheapo ones you get at the cinema. Then there is the fact that there is hardly any 3d content on tv here and its hard to see that there ever will be, so its restricted mostly to movies you buy.

One potentially awesome feature that I love though is some 3d TVs can be set up so that while you and a friend are playing Playstation for example you both put on the glasses and you see a totally different image on the screen from each other - no split-screen multiplayer anymore. As 3d uses two images and merges them using the glasses all this mode does is block one of the images for each player so they see their own screen (but obviously not in 3d). Take that to its logical conclusion and you could have 2 different channels at the same time on the same screen. That to me is a far better feature than 3d. I could watch football or play ps3 using headphones for the sound while Mrs CL-Ed watches something else. Now THAT would be useful.

Yes, that would be pretty awesome. I did notice that the LG that I saw used the same glasses as the movie theater, so you could probably amass a large array of glasses pretty cheaply.

I loved the way this one looked, it was way better than some of the other brands I have seen with the batteries and stuff in them.

Thats interesting that they can now use the same glasses as the cinema.

On that topic, when I go to the cinema they charge us a dollar for the glasses then ask you to "recycle" them at the end, and you don't get your buck back. Cheeky!

Yeah, we have that problem here too with the recycling...

On that note, I have a confession to make. I just found my LG 3DTV on sale here at our local Best Buy, and I REALLY wanted it. It was listed at $699.

I was able to put my current TV on Craigs List, and someone actually paid $500 for it (almost 3 years old, LCD, and 120Hz). I was then able to pick up this TV for $200, but I had $55 in gift cards, bringing the price down to $145 for me. They also have a deal where you get 18 months with 0% financing... so I had to get it.

I am now the proud owner of this TV, and I think I am nuts for doing it! But it is pretty dang cool. I just installed it last night and was pretty impressed. It has this 2D>3D deal where you can convert standard television signals into 3D. It works pretty well for cartoons and sports.

Am I nuts? I think the $145 for 18 months at 0% is workable, but I am so stinkin' impulsive!

LMAO!! Impulsive or not, you DID get a pretty good deal there, so at least you didn't spend your entire bank roll to get something you REALLY wanted. You can just win the entire amount back playing blackjack. That is IF you can get off the couch now from watching all your cool shows in 3-D. lol!

You are too funny. Reminds me of my brother when he bought his first big flat screen, HDTV to watch HIS football, lol.

I can't even imagine watching TV or sports like that. Now you just have to figure out how to channel the live dealer blackjack through the TV screen? I bet your wife will really have trouble getting you off the couch now, lol!

As if she didn't before!

Just Kidding. I do my chores around the house: mow the lawn, do the dishes, dust, and clean the bathroom. More than my fair share if you ask me... 🙂

Well that is what you do to EARN those hours on the couch, lol. J/K

When you are finished, my bathroom could really use a good cleaning. 😉
