Prayers, Positive Thoughts, and please "do what you do" for Lucky Me's mom!

18 replies • Last post

Hi Everyone,

Asking for prayers, positive thoughts, and whatever it is you do, for LuckyMe, at her request.

LuckyMe's mom, who is 83-years-old, woke up this morning, bleeding from the mouth. She could not stop bleeding for almost 11 hours.

Here is the latest:

They think she has a bleed in her stomach. If they can get her blood pressure and heart rhythm under control, they will operate. She is on a blood thinner for her heart, so that caused tremendous bleeding. They gave her vitamin k shots, but they have to do it slowly so she doesn't get a blood clot. There is still a possibility of stroke or heart attack.

LuckyMe believes in the power of prayers and positive thoughts, so please do what you do for our wonderful CL member at this scary time.

Thank you.

Tulip's mom is in surgery right now, and she has been in surgery for over an hour. Continue the positive thoughts and prayers, please!

Latest update in LuckyMe's words:

She's out of surgery. They found two big tears, one in her esophagus, and one in her intestines. The doc said she had to have been doing a lot of wretching to tear it that bad. My sis said that she has vomited all morning.

She is now intubated, under sedation, to give her time to rest. We will know more tomorrow.

Please continue your positive thoughts and prayers for a complete and total recovery, and thank you for your support for LuckyMe's mom and her and her family.

Thank you for the thread Hope. Thanks Slim. She will be in the hospital for a few more days, but she seems to be stable at this point.

She must be a very strong person to go through all that at 83 years old (same age as my mom). So happy she is doing well after a very scary time!

Thanks CL-Ed. She is still weak, but slowly improving. She should be able to go home Thursday if there are no complications. It's hard to believe that she had a life-threatening condition just a couple of days ago, and now she may be able to go home!

It is truly amazing what medical advancements have done for us (and insurance, too, which wants as home asap, but still).

She didn't sound as weak today, just tired. She is one of those people who can't sleep away from home. She grew up during the depression, lived and worked on a farm, raised five kids. She is the most selfless person I know.

She said she thought the pain she felt was just "old age" pain. She had several blood clots in her mouth before the uncontrolled bleeding started hours later. I'm not sure why she didn't tell anyone. A few minutes longer and she might not be here. I was so happy to hear her voice when she answered the phone that all I could do was laugh for the first minute. 🙂

I wish she had gone in when that first happened, too, but who knows what people are thinking? We tend to minimize things in ourselves, at least I do. So relieved the way it all turned out, after such a frightening experience.

Thanks wildgerri. She was released from the hospital Friday. She tried to go home but as she tried to walk to her door, she got light headed and had to sit down. I think she passed out for a couple of minutes. Some guy stopped to help my sister and niece while they were carrying her back to the car. My sister and niece (very independent like my mom) told him they didn't need his help. It was so kind of him to offer. She is staying with my sister now. I think it's the first time in my life where she has said she knows she could not take care of herself. My sister is a nurse, so I know she will be well taken care of.

Thanks for the prayers.

I wish she would have gone in too, but it seems to have worked out ok. Thank goodness. I can't imagine being without my mom.

Yes, miracles happen every day. I live about 6 hours away from my mom. My sister told me I better head that way because she didn't think she would make it. I'm glad she was wrong.
