Dark Knight Opening in Colorado: 12 Dead and 50 Injured

26 replies • Last post

This is just insane. Life is so very fragile. How sad that people have to fear going to a movie theatre.

The gunman randomly shot people, including children.

I have heard reports of 12 dead to 15 dead, but either way, this is just sickening.

My son went to the midnight showing in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last night. I woke up to hearing this horrible news story today.

Supposedly the shooter was a med student going for his doctorate degree. I just don't get it.

Sometimes, most times, we will never understand the "why" of these tragedies.

I just heard something very sad, in relation to this story, on my way home today on the radio. One of the women killed was a newswoman who had just survived a shooting at a mall in Canada (I want to say Toronto?) in June. She was tweeting about how thankful she was to live and how fragile life truly is, then this.

I also heard two interviewed, a guy and his girlfriend, who "played dead," until the gunman left the area. Many thought it was part of the movie at the very start of it all.

Also, I heard that when the police called the shooter's mom and said he was suspected, she said something strange, "You have the right person."

I am sure many will have "survivor's guilt," and problems for a long time. As of this afternoon they had not taken 10 of the bodies out of the theatre yet to keep studying the crime scene. Makes me sick to my stomach. Our entire country, and the world, is in shock, and this also happened only 20 miles from Columbine.

Hope, I don't even know if this story is true. There were a lot of stories being filmed and portrayed as true by a Phoenix film crew. Many of the actors were filmed in several different stories.

Supposedly the Gabby Giffords story was fake. If you look at this guy's website, he makes some good points. I don't agree with everything he says, but it does make one wonder what is really true and what is not.

Just watch the first couple of minutes if you aren't interested in the whole thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIyNtNh_BDI

Check out this fake cnn news story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXjIACtWCHA&feature=channel&list=UL Once you realize that a lot of what we have been told about things is false or made up, it puts a whole new perspective on thngs. This video is not very long, but long enough to make everyone know that tv news is fake.

I realize that some of our news is not true. I realize the media likes to instill fear. I also realize that news reporters do not focus on the things they should, pushing insignificant stories to the front and "real-life" things to the back of the news pages. (The Wire is a great commentary on what has happened in the media, during Season Five). However, I DO believe this incident is true and happened. Too grand of a scale and far too many witnesses for this not to have happened. That is just my humble opinion.

I respect your opinion Hope. I remember this quote though-- If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. -- Joseph Goebbels

We've had pretty much the same reaction here that we see every time this happens in America (sadly all too common): I'll never understand why it is so easy for an average person to buy and accumulate those sorts of weapons which are designed with the purpose of killing people.

I agree, CL-Ed. There was a radio discussion the other day as to why a person even NEEDS an automatic weapon. Even if a person has a right to protect themselves and their family, they do NOT need that type of weapon. Not for that, not for hunting, there is really NO reason except to cause great harm.

This is such a tragedy.

Interesting article from an outsider's persepective about the lack of a response from politicians:

Wow, seeing these things as natural disasters such as earthquakes or tornadoes? That is truly a sad commentary. Although, I said myself the other day that with all the craziness in this world, and our country, I am surprised these things do not happen more often. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful they do not, but there seems to be so much madness in the world lately. And not just on the news, but things we observe in daily life.

Good article for food for thought, CL-Ed. I passed it on to my son.

My prayers and thoughts to the victims on this horrific tragedy. 😢 I'm full of it when the media talks so much about the perpetrator but not the victims and their families. I dislike guns but Id rather have them for protection purposes.

Yeah really, how in the world these powerful ammunitions should be sold to civilians..? It should also be red flags to those who sold and delivered this kind of items to the same person and must be reported to the proper authorities. 😠 They could have stopped this lunatic person from taking innocent lives!

Very well-stated, Ubetcha and very true. We have to become a community again and watch out for one another.

I watched a 48 Hours Mystery video last night, and this poor woman's family was being attacked. She ran down the street in her nightgown, going from door to door, begging someone to let her in. She even saw one woman awake with her light on, and no one would let this poor woman in or even talk to her through the door. The nine year old in the home under attack ended up being the only one who called 911, when he finally found a cell phone. What is wrong with people and whatever happened to community?

Hope, I think things changed when we stopped talking to our neighbors. Tv kind of brainwashed people to not care. I think we got desensitized by all the gore we've seen in the movies and on tv. When someone can get shot and then keeps on fighting like nothing is wrong, it sends the wrong message to people. It's like getting shot is no big deal. I also think people are afraid to help anyone else. There are many times when I see someone stopped on the side of the road with a car problem, and I do not stop. I'm am afraid. Afraid why? I don't know really. Afraid they may have a gun or will hurt me somehow. I do talk to my neighbor here and would help him and his family if need be. I wish things were different.

All I know to do is talk to people and connect when I get the chance. Maybe if everyone did this there would be more compassion. I don't know.

I also think that the media has brainwashed people to think that things (iphone, games, cars, greed) are all more important than people are. We see that people mimick what they see in movies. 😢

Here is another view on what may be going on with this scenario above. http://americankabuki.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/colorado-massacre-linked-to...

James Holmes father Robert Holmes, was said to have been scheduled to testify within the next few weeks before a US Senate panel on the massive banking crime called the LIBOR Scandal where UK banks fixed the London Interbank Borrowing Rate with the complicity of the Bank of England, the US Federal Reserve (which knew about this crime for 4 years and didn’t report it) and many other major Western banks.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the article, but it does raise questions.

Sorry but I think that conspiracy theory is completely ridiculous. It would be far easier and more efficient to get rid of the actual guy who was going to testify if you wanted to stop him so badly instead of concocting some convoluted plot involving an identical looking fall guy with about a million different things that could have gone wrong.

I don't think they want the dad dead. I think they want him to change his testimony on the Libor scandal. They need some way to blackmail him, or control him.

Serious questions surround Colorado shooting http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/48415

Here is another story doubting the original version of what happened. http://vaticproject.blogspot.com/2012/08/no-one-died-at-theatre-in-color...

Some of the article below:

There was no CCTV or cell phone footage;
No pictures from inside the theater after the fact;
Why the blood spatters were clean and went the wrong way;
Why the police were talking about where to put the families and press WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING
Why the photos of the mourning family members looked like actors,
How Jessica Redfield witnessed the highly improbable two mass shootings in 1 lifetime,
Why Jessica Redfield hit the SSI database early, after moving to "7 pools and a lake",
The damning tweets,
The dead nurse,
The perfect shut outs on Google and other search engines (IMPOSSIBLE),
WHY the Aurora victims ALL got facebook profiles and donation pages in their honor while the Sikhs got NONE

Yup, I am sorry, but I don't believe it was all set up.

I am not one who denies 911, either. My middle son says he equates those who deny 911 with the "Holocaust deniers."

Everyone has their own beliefs, and I respect that, and I also know the media DOES lie to us, but my beliefs are somewhere in the middle, and I don't believe the conspiracy theories surrounding this one at all. JMHO. 🙂

When I Google "batman shooting conspiracy theories," I get 1,040,000 results.

Crazy!

Again, in most things, I am a "middle grounder." I know there is a lot we do not know, but I try not to take it to the other extreme. What baffles me is how quickly all these conspiracy theories popped up with this one.

Each person has to do their own research and decide for themselves, and again, I respect each person's opinions and beliefs no matter what conclusion I come to for myself.

I agree with your statement above Hope. The truth is usually in the middle. There is always what he said, what she said, and what really happened.

I did listen to one of the police tapes though, and wondered why they were asking where to place family and reporters. Wouldn't family go to the hospital where people were taken and not to where it happened?

I don't know. I guess some would go to the hospital, but maybe this is family of those who were involved in the incident but not injured and needed family to get there to support them in their emotional grief and shock? That would be my first guess, but I have no idea.

Some conspiracy theories, I may consider taking a closer look at the hard evidence before believing it. It's an open book for those who likes to prove it in every way..

When I was young, we were almost never inside. We had a lot of kids in the neighborhood to play games with. We had fun being outside. I agree with what you say about violence from tv, movies. Parents are so overworked they just want time to unwind, and some of them use the tv as a babysitter.

My boyfriend and I were watching cartoons one day, and I could not believe all the sexual references in the cartoons. Parents really don't know what their kids are watching.
