HELP! Computer has a virus! :(

6 replies • Last post

Does anyone know anything I can try before I bring my computer to my computer guy and PAY to have this stupid virus removed?

I have run AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarbytes. The first two found nothing. Malwarbytes found adware and some trojan virus, but when I restarted the computer to get rid of it the virus is still there.

Here is what happens: If I go directly to a website, through the URL, I am fine. If I Google, then click on a link, it take me to a white page with a bunch of ads in blue and underlined in blue. If I backspace and go back to the site, it brings me to the site. It also brings me to some strange Nanotech Search page sometimes.

I am SO sick of viruses. I want to be rich and buy a MAC, lol. This is the THIRD virus in two years. Does anyone know any tricks?

Also, can someone post instructions here to do a system restore on windows XP? It won't let me go to the sites where they have instructions and I can't figure it out.

With the help of another website, I have the instructions for system restore. This person also found out that there is some kind of strange search engine in my computer called SCOUR. 😢 Trouble is, I can't find it anywhere in my computer in order to DELETE the darn thing! I am really angry right now. I will try the system restore, and I am trying some other things, too.

Good luck Hope. I cannot give you any good tips as it has appeared you have tried what I would have. Maybe if one of your kids can download new antivirus software to a USB stick you can load into your computer or boot into safe mode and try to rid it that way...

I would google SCOUR and see what comes up. You have to careful about other websites that say they will remove viruses too. I would go to www.cnet.com and see what virus removal tools they have.

Did system restore work for you? It worked for me once to get rid of some nasty things.

I wish I could be of more help. Do you know what site you visited before you got the screen with the blue on it?

One site said that it is a google re-direct virus. You could just use another search engine like Mozilla. I use startpage, I think it is. It allows you to browse anonymously.

Here is some info I found on how to remove Scour manually if your anti-virus can't do it:
http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-to-remove-scour-uninstall-...
http://blog.teesupport.com/how-to-guide-remove-scour-com-redirect-virus-...

If that is too technical I would try getting hold of an anti-malware rescue disk like the ones listed here:
http://www.malwarehelp.org/anti-malware-bootable-rescue-cd-dvd-download....

You burn the disk to a CD or a USB stick, then boot your computer using that rather than booting into windows. This stops the malware from loading and makes it easier to be removed.

Always play it safe! Consult our list of rogue casinos and warnings before depositing at a new casino.

Thank you everyone! I will try some of these things when I get back into town on Sunday or Monday.

A woman on another site said to pay for an anti-virus program, that the free ones really do not find everything. With the problems I have had in the last year, I might consider that, because it would cost less than to keep bringing to my computer guy.

I tried several things already to find Scour and it is well hidden, but I will look at the information above, more closely, when I return home.

THANKS for your help and support, everyone! 🙂
