Hello CL Friends!

It is my privilege to announce our Second Annual 2013 Academy Awards tipping competition on Casino Listings! Many members enjoyed this competition last year, so why not make it a tradition? 🙂 All you have to do to win is list who you think will win an Oscar in the categories we nominate.

How it works:
1. Just nominate your winner in each of the categories below in a reply to this thread. The person who picks the most winners scoops the pool. If there is a tie we'll split the pool evenly.
2. The cost of entry is 10 CLchips. If you post an entry in this thread you will be considered a participant and we will deduct 10 CLchips from your account.
3. Every entry contributes to the prize pot. The winner will receive all the CLchips in the prize pot.
4. Entries close at the beginning of the Oscars ceremony which is Sunday, February 24, 7pm U.S. Eastern time (I think that makes it midnight February 27 GMT).
5. You can enter multiple times if you change your mind, but only your last dated post will be used as your entry.

The categories:

Best Picture: Amour, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty, Life of Pi

Directing: Michael Haneke (Amour), Benh Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Ang Lee (Life of Pi), Steven Spielberg (Lincoln), David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook)

Actor In a Leading Role: Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook), Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln), Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables), Joaquin Phoenix (The Master), Denzel Washington (Flight)

Actress In a Leading Role: Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook), Emmanuelle Riva (Amour), Quvenzhane' Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Naomi Watts (The Impossible)

Actor In a Supporting Role: Alan Arkin (Argo), Robert DeNiro (Silver Linings Playbook), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master), Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln), Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained)

Actress In a Supporting Role: Amy Adams (The Master), Sally Field (Lincoln), Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables), Helen Hunt (The Sessions), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook)

Good luck film fans!

I am watching Argo tonight so i hope I don't change my mind.I have been putting off watching it for no great reason.Just have to be in the mood.It is still playing at the theater here so guess it is really good,as they say.

I really liked it. And of course it is loosely based on the true story, but that is usually the way with Hollywood. I heard interviews with some of the real people who said which parts happened and which parts did not. Still, an incredible story about an important part of our history. Still cannot believe Affleck was snubbed, but since they increased the number of movies, why not do the same with director category? Doesn't make sense to me, but oh well. Can't wait for the awards show! 🙂

Okay, my friends. I am STILL stressing out about those impossible categories of best actress and best supporting actor, lol! My heart goes to Chastain, but I am not covinced this is a race between Riva and Lawrence, with Lawrence being most likely.

For the other category, they are leaning toward Tommy Lee? Over Christoph Waltz...really? Could also end up being DeNiro.

Thanks for listening to my rants and letting me think it all out in this thread. This is the year where I won't feel settled now matter who or what I pick. lol!

According to abcnewsgo.com:

"I think that I've been sort of in the Oscar prognostication business for over a decade at this point and I don't remember a closer race than the best actress category," Feinberg said. "I think there's an argument that can be made for every one of the nominees."

"You know, I would probably say that it's Lawrence most likely and Riva based on BAFTA," Feinberg said about his top two contenders for the Oscar. "Although I think everyone has underestimated how well Watts is going to do. This is going to be a matter of just a few votes separating the nominees by just a few."

Picture: Argo

Director: Speilberg (Lincoln)

Best Actor: Daniel Day Lewis

Best Actress: Emmanuelle Riva (Amour) (sorry Jessica and Jennifer, lol. As much as I have loved Lawrence, since Winter's Bone, my favorite performance this year was by Jessica Chastain, whom I have LOVED since The Help)

Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained)
(although De Niro or Tommy Lee could take this one, I have to stick with my favorite performance, although I DID love that DeNiro is getting away from Meeting the Parents, lol Waltz is my long shot)

Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway (sticking with this one, because I agree with Ubetcha)

Now let's just hope I do not regret my MANY changes, lol!

.....and I might be back. lmbo!

The year of the Unknown Actress:

85th Annual Oscars could make history:

Does anyone have any predictions on how Seth MacFarlane will do at hosting? 🤷 🙂

For those watching, the Oscars are on ABC.

Red Carpet Live starts at 7pm EST and the Awards begin at 8:30 pm EST, Of course, there will be Oscar coverage on various channels all day long, but those are the main events.

I can't wait to hear Adelle sing on stage. Nora Jones, Babs, and others will perform, too.

Darn! I could have SO easily had it this year if not for choosing the wild card for best actress and changing my director category at the last minute. It was a great show, IMO.

I am already looking forward to next year, peeps! 🙂

Here is my final tally, friends. Please let me know if I missed anyone or messed up my count (like I did last year, lol)

Slim: 2/6
Ubetcha 0/6
Wild Geri 0/6
Hope 4/6

Is that really all of us who entered? I hope we can do this again next year, because I really enjoy it. We need to rally up more interest in our contests and such.

THANK YOU to those who entered!!!

Damn, thought I'd take it. Stupid Argo winning screwed the pooch for me.

I actually liked Argo, but thought Silver Linings was much better.

I am so happy for Ben Affleck after his years of struggle (after Good Will Hunting) AND his best director snub.

Wasn't Jennifer Lawrence adorable when she tripped up the stairs, then suggested they gave her a standing ovation to make her feel less embarrassed about tripping? lol!

Did you watch? I want to know what people thought of the host. I actually really liked him. The opening was especially funny. I think it was a little strong on musical numbers last night. Not that I have anything against music, but it was a bit much for me. And what about the "We saw your boobs?" song? Only from the creator of a show like Family Guy, lol!

Anyone else watch? If not, you can probably find highlights of the best moments online somewhere.

I got one correct answer out of 6! Remember about Anne Hathaway... as I said the academy has sealed her already.

I thought Ben Affleck deserved to be the Best Director after the snubbed. The family guy jokes were mostly outrageous and degrading. Oscar night used to be a classy night with class people and we looked up to them as our role models..

Just my 2 cents! 😉

Oh! SO SORRY, Ubetcha. I miscounted your responses last year, too, lol!

Do you like Anne Hathaway? People say she craves attention and tries too hard. Her dress certainly reflected the attention part, lmao!

I did not expect anything less from Seth MacFarlane, but glad he said it was a "one time deal" to host. I didn't think was terrible, though. I guess I can be a bit juvenile in my humor. My complaint was how strong the show was on music. I could have done without the Lah MIZ cast's performance. I did love Adelle and Shirley Basey did so well and looked great!

What did you think about Michelle Obama announcing Best Picture? Not sure how I feel about that.

I totally agree with you about Argo, and I was thrilled that Argo won. I have loved his and Damon's stories since Good Will Hunting. And Affleck did take years to rise above some box office disasters (and person ones, too).

Poor Jennifer Lawrence tripping up the steps. If you thought the host's comments were tasteless, you should have heard the after show with Joan Rivers. I did not watch, but I heard clips on the radio. She is outrageous and even a bit much for me.

All in all, many tuned in this year, and I enjoyed our evening at the Oscars. 🙂

So sorry I totally forgot all about the Oscars altogether. I only realised when I was reading the news and I saw who won. I don't think I have seen any of the movies that were nominated though so I would have had no chance, I'll fix you up with some CLchips hope, don't worry about the entry fees for everyone else.

Always play it safe! Consult our list of rogue casinos and warnings before depositing at a new casino.
Post in our forums to earn CLchips which can be used to buy real prizes in our CLchips shop.

Thank you, CL-Ed!

I know you are busy, but you now have all year to catch up on the nominated films. As I said, I don't think there was a single one I did not like.

LOL.. no worries Hope777, didn't we all have limitations? BTW, about Michelle Obama.. I could care less really. It would be shocking if she's an outsider, should she be? 🤔 🙂
