Twenty Questions

Hello Friends,

Can we use another guessing game? I thought this one might be fun, because we can think of anything "that exists in the universe," we are limited to "yes or no" questions, and players must guess within twenty questions or the poster wins.

Here are the rules:

First poster must think of something that exists in this universe. She may answer only Yes or No to the other players' questions.

First player begins the game by asking a yes or no question. The best questions to ask first are general ones such as "Is this a class of things?" or "Is this a unique item?"

Ask up to 20 questions to try to determine what the player is thinking. The classic Twenty Questions question is whether the object is an animal, vegetable or mineral but remember that things made of plastic or other man-made materials are none of these. (I have also heard, "Is it bigger than a breadbox," for a common Twenty-Questions question).

Ask questions such as "Is it alive or is it dead?" if you determine that the object is a living creature. You may also want to ask whether it is human or not and if so, whether it is male or female. Other good questions involve finding out if the object is famous or notorious or if it's someone in your direct acquaintance.

Answer ambiguous, non-"yes or no" questions by replying "I can't answer that question." You may also reply "I don't know" if it is a question you can't answer.

Win the game as a questioner if you can determine what the first player is thinking of before using up all of your twenty questions. The person giving the answers wins if no one is able to guess what she is thinking of.

EACH PLAYER IS ALLOWED TWENTY QUESTIONS, BUT MAY ONLY ASK ONE QUESTION AT A TIME, THEN WAIT FOR THE ANSWER BEFORE POSTING ANOTHER QUESTION.

Play this game with a small group for the greatest effect. This will allow the twenty questions to be distributed evenly among the players. If the group is small enough, twenty questions may be allotted to each of the players.

IN THE CASE OF CL, WE NEED A GROUP LARGE ENOUGH, SO COME ONE PEOPLE! LET'S PLAY MORE GAMES, HELP THE FORUMS BECOME MORE ACTIVE AND EARN THOSE CL CHIPS!!! 🙂

Play the next round by letting the victor think of the next object for the other players to guess.

Information retrieved from How to Play Twenty Questions, E How, http://www.ehow.com/how_2044552_play-twenty-questions.html on March 4, 2012.

Tips: Ask specific questions to get the most revealing answers. Novice players tend to ask questions that could apply to some but not all of the object's characteristics and therefore may receive a misleading answer of "Yes

Here are a few more tips from Wiki:

"Twenty Questions is a spoken parlor game which encourages deductive reasoning and creativity. It originated in the United States and escalated in popularity during the late 1940s when it became the format for a successful weekly radio quiz program.

In the traditional game, one player is chosen to be the answerer. That person chooses a subject but does not reveal this to the others. All other players are questioners. They each take turns asking a question which can be answered with a simple "Yes" or "No." In variants of the game (see below), multiple state answers may be included such as the answer "Maybe." The answerer answers each question in turn. Sample questions could be: "Is it bigger than a breadbox?" or "Can I put it in my mouth?" Lying is not allowed in the game. If a questioner guesses the correct answer, that questioner wins and becomes the answerer for the next round. If 20 questions are asked without a correct guess, then the answerer has stumped the questioners and gets to be the answerer for another round.

Careful selection of questions can greatly improve the odds of the questioner winning the game[1]. For example, a question such as "Does it involve technology for communications, entertainment or work?" can allow the questioner to cover a broad range of areas using a single question that can be answered with a simple "yes" or "no". If the answerer responds with "yes," the questioner can use the next question to narrow down the answer; if the answerer responds with "no," the questioner has successfully eliminated a number of possibilities for the answer."

Yes. (You are getting a lot of YES answers this time, LuckyMe! Good job for getting the hang of this game. I think the practice run really helped us).

Does the actor's last name start with a vowel? I looked up academy award winners and there are about 85 names.
