2012 Oscars competition - win CLchips

40 replies • Last post

side_oscar.jpg We are running a 2012 Academy Awards tipping competition right here. All you have to do to win is list who you think will win an Oscar in the categories we nominate. How it works:

  1. Just nominate your winner in each of the categories below in a reply to this thread. The person who picks the most winners scoops the pool. If there is a tie we'll split the pool evenly.
  2. The cost of entry is 10 CLchips. If you post an entry in this thread you will be considered a participant and we will deduct 10 CLchips from your account.
  3. Every entry contributes to the prize pot. The winner will receive all the CLchips in the prize pot.
  4. Entries close at the beginning of the Oscars ceremony which is February 26, 7pm U.S. Eastern time (I think that makes it midnight February 27 GMT).
  5. You can enter multiple times if you change your mind, but only your last dated post will be used as your entry.

The categories:

Best Picture: The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse

Directing: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), Alexander Payne (The Descendants), Martin Scorsese (Hugo), Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris), Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life)

Actor In a Leading Role: Demián Bichir (A Better Life), George Clooney (The Descendants), Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Brad Pitt (Moneyball)

Actress In a Leading Role: Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Viola Davis (The Help), Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn)

Actor In a Supporting Role: Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn), Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Nick Nolte (Warrior), Christopher Plummer (Beginners), Max von Sydow (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close)

Actress In a Supporting Role: Bérénice Bejo (The Artist), Jessica Chastain (The Help), Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs), Octavia Spencer (The Help)

Good luck film fans!

Oh, YAY! I was going to ask about this, but I hate to bother you, because I know how busy you are. Thank you for doing this. Go ahead and deduct my chips. I will be posting my winners soon. 😉

Very nice presentation, btw! 🙂

Okay. I will be the first to give this is a try. This is not necessarily who I WANT to win, but this is who I think will win. Well, I guess there are a few categories that apply to both.

Best Picture: The Artist
Director: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist)
Actor in a Leading Role: George Clooney (The Descendants)
Actress in a Leading Role: Viola David (The Help)
Actor in Supporting Role: Christopher Plummer (Beginners)
Actress in Supporting Role: Octavia Spencer (The Help)

I think I covered them all. That is it unless I change my mind, lol!

I know what you mean,. SG! I do want both actresses to win for The Help, though. Those are both wants and predictions. However, Melissa McCarthy could very well be the "dark horse" for Bridemaids, but I kind of doubt it. I would be surprised, but you never know! Thanks for playing! I hope others will join us for more competition. 🙂

CL-Ed, I hope you enjoy The Help as much as I did! The movie is almost as good as the book! I hope to watch a few more before the awards, too. I really wanted to see that Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

I will donate 10 chips to the pot eve though I'm not entering. I haven't seen any of these movies. I don't even know some of these actors. It will be fun to see who gets the nominations right though. 🙂 Good luck everyone.

LuckyMe, if you are donating anyway, then what do have to lose to enter? Nothing! 🙂 Just do a little online research. You are REALLY good at that OR just go with your intuition for the fun of it. We need more competition, so think about that, please, my dear. 🙂

Hope, do you think there are any trailers online? I will do a search and see. Maybe I can guess from those. I'm sure George Clooney will win something.

LuckyMe, there are not only trailers, but there are Oscar Prediction articles, where you can read who the author of the article thinks will win and why. You can do a little studying/research, or like I said, go with your intuition. Just saying if you are going to donate your chips, you may as well be in the running. Nothing to lose if you are already donating, right? 🙂

I do think this is Clooney's year, but we never know! 😉

I haven't watched them all, either, GM, but just going on things I have read and my feelings, too. Thanks for your consideration. If you change your mind feel free to join in! 🙂

Ok so the current state of play is this. We have the following entered: hope777, salivan_genius, UBetcha, and LuckyMe wants to chip in but not have a stab at picking the winners (come on LuckyMe, have a go - you never know...)

And now for my entry:

Best Picture: Hugo
Directing: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist)
Actor In a Leading Role: Jean Dujardin (The Artist)
Actress In a Leading Role: Viola Davis (The Help)
Actor In a Supporting Role: Christopher Plummer (Beginners)
Actress In a Supporting Role: Octavia Spencer (The Help)

So we have 50 CLchips in the pot now.

Post in our forums to earn CLchips which can be used to buy real prizes in our CLchips shop.

Well haven't seen all that many films recently but I'll throw in my clueless hat 🙂

Best Picture: The Help

Directing: Martin Scorsese (Hugo)

Actor In a Leading Role: Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)

Actress In a Leading Role: Viola Davis (The Help)

Actor In a Supporting Role: Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn)

Actress In a Supporting Role: Octavia Spencer (The Help)

Mostly a shot in the dark 😉

Yay! We are getting more competition. LuckyMe, hurry up as you have only a few more days now. 😉 Like we said, cannot hurt to try.

I still want to try to watch a few more of the nominated films before Sunday, and time is flying by! I have found some online, but not all. I REALLY want to see the artist after seeing clips and watching interviews with the actress.

The Artist sounds like the kind of movie the academy awards voters drool over. A silent movie about a silent movie actor. Its the heavy favourite from what I saw, but I went with Hugo because its fantastic and its also about film so it could be a bit of a dark horse.

Yes, those "dark horses" can sneak up and grab the award. We have been surprised by choices/votes before. I am wondering about Melissa McCarthy being a dark horse in that category.

I have not seen Hugo yet, but I will try to find it. I really wanted to see The Artist, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and The Tree of Life BEFORE Sunday, but I am not sure I will find them all. The Tree of Life is on Project Free TV if anyone is looking. I started it, but it was late, and it is a longer film. Time is running out. So many movies, so little time, lol!

Part of the Oscar fun is watching the stars on the Red Carpet. We get to see those who are "right on" with fashion and watch for the disasters. lol

Here are Oscar's "Worst Dresses Ever.' See if you agree. Scroll down the page and there is a photo, then click on the arrow for more 'disasters.' The view a few of what is considered "best dressed."

Thought this might be fun and help get us all in the mood for the awards.

http://www.cosmopolitan.com/celebrity/red-carpet-dresses/best-and-worst-...

If you get an ad, you can click on "skip ad" to the top right of the picture and get on with the photos.

Enjoy! 🙂

I really hope you are correct that The Help will win. That would be my first choice if I was one of the voters. I also liked Jonah Hill's performance in Moneyball.

Good luck! 🙂
