Yeah I thought Butler was the only English top and middle order batsmen playing with freedom really and as you said in the end 294 looked as an underscore...saying that... Australia just managed to score 225 all out for under a day so they really under-perform with the bat apart for Smith and Labuschagne of course..the rest didn't even scored 100...

So maybe Australia becoming too dependent of Smith..it's probably a bit harsh assumption and you definitely want that guy in your squad but I think they'd really struggle in this series if he's been out for some reason...I don't know..what you think about it?

Yes Australia's batting is awful without Smith. As I suspected they proved incapable of batting for longer than a day in the test match. Well, all up it was a competitive series between two teams that are fairly ordinary, both having bowling attacks that are much stronger than their batting. I guess you could say in the end that Australia was the least worse team! πŸ˜‚

Yeah..I guess so Ed, in the end maybe both teams are happy with the result, Australia retain the Ashes while England at least didn't lost the series...

Funilly enough, Marnus was initially selected completely as a 'Got a bit about him' player, averaged 31 with the bat and 48 with the ball. Not to mention he averaged 24 in the Shield that year.

That's why, even given his brilliant county form, I was a bit concerned about his selection this Ashes. But F-it he's impressing.

I thought wow, we have an American poster who likes cricket and writes like an Australian. But then he's posting from an IP address flagged as a VPN or proxy and its a bit odd replying to a months old comment like that. Hmmm. And what do you know... its a copy+paste of someone else's reddit comment.

Lots of smarter people than you Maremma have tried posting post a few innocuous comments to appear genuine then came back later to slip in their paid link spam. These are the lengths these spamming douchebags go to every day, wasting everyone's time and annoying people. Given the interest in cricket, the use of the VPN, and the overwhelming majority of spammers attempting to hit our site coming from cricketing countries on the subcontinent, I think we have a fairly good idea of where you are really from. Well no matter, all the rest of them have failed as have you. So goodbye and please don't come back. Oh and you may as well tell your friends they are only wasting their time trying to spam this site.

Got him! Yes he's gone!!!

I know you're not much of a supporter of this format Ed, but I've been watching a couple of T20 games in the last few days after few months in which I haven't seen any cricket, it's been between South Africa and England and I thought both last games were quite entertaining.

There's a T20 WC upcoming this year and surely you'd watch at least the Aussies games, right?

Any expectations?

Anyone know of a good alternative to Foxtel/Kayo? I want to watch cricket but I refuse to fund the Murdoch propaganda machine...

To be honest I have to admit that until I read your post sharpe I didn't even know there was a T20 world cup coming up. I was aware of the women's version which starts this week because it has been in the news here.

As T20 is such a lottery I'd expect that almost any team could win it. Games can be over within 5 overs if batting side gets a bad start. I just looked up the list of teams that have qualified and geez I can hardly wait to watch Papua New Guinea play Oman. πŸ˜‰ What a shame that guy from Romania didn't qualify with his quality bowling!

Matthew, I feel dirty giving money to Murdoch too but I do have access to Kayo, sort of. If you know someone else with Kayo or you can find a friend who wants to, you can share an account as they allow 2 devices to stream at the same time. That's what I do with my old man and that cut us back from a monthly Foxtel fee of $70+ each to $25 between us. No wonder Foxtel is losing money and subscribers in droves.

ha-ha, yeah I remember the guy, it's a shame Romania are not involved (if he could make the first team anyway) would of been quite entertaining to see him in action.

To be honest I'd watch a game like that...Papua - Oman I mean, whatever the level might be there I don't think for some reason it wouldn't be a boring gameπŸ˜‰

Yeah. At first you think what is the problem, relatively speaking the game is almost always played with what we're now calling social distancing. Then you remember the fielders and bowlers rubbing spit and sweat on the ball to polish it.

Ha.-ha..yeah...wouldn't thought of thatπŸ™‚...it's a bit gross to be honest...I guess as a bowler you try not to think a few people have just spit on the ball you're holding in your handπŸ˜‰

I know this is immutable part of the sport but do you think they in fact could forbid players doing that?!...it could be even quite dangerous for the players health I guess...I know some players are so use to it that they would continue doing it for years just because of the habit...even if that's forbidden.

It's like Nadal in tennis being forbidden doing all his rituals...πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚...that would ruin the guy's game for sure...don't even have to mention how tight he would feel his boxers..πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

They probably should ban it given current health concerns but it's all about getting the ball to swing. If they don't polish one side of the ball it won't swing as much and batting becomes much easier.

A lot of the cheating in cricket is all about treatment of the ball. eg the Aussies with their sandpaper to rough it up, the English with their mints and lollies to make it shine, and others using bottle tops and other things to affect the ball. If they made a rule that you can't shine or polish or do anything to the ball it would solve a lot of these problems. But then you would be going against tradition in what is a very traditional sport.

I wonder if sandpaper works on Corona? πŸ€”

Yeah, I've heard about some of these stuff before my self Ed...I guess it's allowed... if it's not specifically forbidden by the rules...πŸ˜‰

Yeah exactly, you described it great there..I understand the dilemma...still think they could allow them shine the ball rubbing in their kits like they usually do..and maybe using some water instead of spitting on it...πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚..I understand this sounds ridiculous...but just this is the times we're living in right now..I guess.

I think its a joke that maybe sandpaper destroys corona virus - after the Aussies were caught using sandpaper on the ball.
