LOL ... my rule of thumb is the more dancing girls, mascots in animal suits, music and bands at half time etc etc etc, the more the sport is compensating for not being entertaining enough. Basketball scores pretty highly on all those factors!

Don't worry Dustin, the Kings are almost as sloppy as the Red Wings this season and I still use to see every game...don't know why really...maybe I'm a masochist?!? 😀

Just to correct my self ...Kings are in fact the sloppier team...in fact the worst playing team in the league right now...well they could still hope of the N1 pick at the next draft..holding on to two first round choises..I heard the N1 guy is a wonder kid or something...one in a generation.

The Giro takes place now and finally it's time for the mountain stages..I think the next few days would be quite frantic...any time for that these days Ed?

I assume if the race it's even half as dramatic as the last year it would still be great one.

Roglic looks really great but his team looked poor even in the first mountain stage so that could be a big problem for him..have to be an exiting race anyway.

The Ice Hockey World Cup had just been over with quite an unlikely winners - the Finns, they've beat Sweden at the quarters, Russia at the semis and Canada at the final ( commiserations to
WaroftheGods, in case you've ever check this thread man), and that's all the winners of the last 7 world championships.

The Finns have been brilliant and won that deservedly IMHO, they've had just a 2 NHL players on their roster and there's been a joke around Finish fans of how poor of a team they could give to the coach Jalonen and he 'd still make a contenders of them.

Surely one of the unlikeliest winners ever in the IHWC's history.

I saw the news of the Finns winning. I don't know much about ice hockey but in my naivety I thought they had a strong team. I haven't seen any of the Giro this year though, how has it been?

The Finns have a huge traditions and a lot of first class NHL-ers but having in mind the team they've put on this WC it was a major upset, someone said the second biggest ever after Slovakia winning it in 2002 after being just for 6 years in the top division, it's a subject comparison but I'm tend to agree it's one of the huge upsets in the WC's history.

As for the Giro I don't think the race has been so dramatic and entertaining as the last year's one..well at least for me.

Not so expecting winner in Carapaz but after Dumoulin left out early injured, S.Yates nowhere near his top form(biggest disappointment for me), Nibali not as good as before also, Roglic struggled in 2nd and 3rd week after not so scary looking crash...and in the end it was obvious Movistar has been by far the strongest team which helps their leader big time, especially Landa.

It's been a good race but I've had really expected something more after last year's thriller, hopefully the Tour would be even better one.

Tour de France 2019 in it's prime now...it's been a great race so far and just to keep you updated in case you don't have time for that Ed....

Alaphilippe has been above all expectations and no one thought he'd be involved in the GS battle but the guy has been just great and who knows...

There's like six riders(at least!) who could still win it and I'm really exited for the third week when the tour approaching the Alps .

Thomas haven't been so convincing as last year and Ineos have two leaders (which could be a problem for them in the end I think) so the race look so open now.

Never been a French supporter in many other sports but because what Tour de France is and the fact they haven't won it for like 35 years I'd hope it would be a Frenchman this time round.

Pinot is my favorite as it looks in staggering form in the mountains and only the fact he lost 1m 40sec in one of the flat stages with a lot of side wind didn't allowed him so far to be just a few seconds short of the yellow jersey.

But if he is so impressive in the third week as well..the rest will have a big problem chasing him...hopefully 😉

What did you think in the end? I was hoping Alaphilippe could hang on but he cracked in the end. Its pretty amazing to see such a young guy like Bernal win it. He's grown up racing at high altitudes in Colombia so obviously is able to cope well. He could end up winning many more now.

Exactly.

And for me that's the problem Ed! Even if I was his fan.

First of all Bernal have been very lucky for a few reasons, he should of take part in the Giro but have a crash and broke his clavicle wich is not a serious injury these days cause after the intervention you're on a bike and training after just week or so.

So he missed the Giro when I wouldn't fancy his chances of winning anyway cause Movistar looked like they've been the best prepared team there and Bernal would of had a weaker team to support him than in Tour.

Than Froome crashed so Bernal get a leader spot in Ineos which would never be his role if Froome was in the race and Thomas would of been the other leader.

Thomas also not in his last year's form and I think he had an incident just before the tour as well so even before the race I've expected Bernal to win it (seriously) and I hoped that wouldn't be the case cause other talented guys have to wait to their late 20's and even early 30's before they get that leader spot and not in such a strong team like Ineos/exSky

So if he starts his dominance at 22 tell me just one reason (apart from serious injuries) he won't win the Tour in like 12 of next 13 editions when he''ll be 35 if Ineos would presumably continue to have the dominance they've got (and I don't see that over any time soon) and that would of been my worries even if I fancied the guy which I'm not.

I'm not saying he wasn't the strongest climber in the 3rd week in the Alps but so many other things should of gone his way..and in fact that's exactly what happened, didn't even have to mention the absence of Froome and Dumoulin.

Alaphilipe had a really great tour but he was never considered a GS contender, even he wouldn't believe that he could potentially hold the yellow in the third week, and that make all the difference for me, he never trained specifically for endurance and all the GS contenders of course do that, he rides in all the Spring classics which is great physical consumption while the GS team leaders have been trained especially for the tour.

But you know what the great irony is...Alaphilipe could of still done it if there wasn't so many climbing's at 2000+ meters in the third week which usually is not the case in the tour, and the South Americans have clear advantage over Europeans at that high cause they're born and spent most of their life at such height which makes them more prepared, so the irony is in the fact the French have made such difficult profile of the tour (and just one short time trial (which included a climb as well)) to prevent Ineos riders and maybe Dumoulin to have advantage over Bardet and Pinot and give them a better a chance I recon.

So Alaphilippe could of won it (in fact he gained time over Bernal in the time trial 😉 , as Pinot as well) but lost the tour just because of the heights attitude in the third week! is there any justice in that..?? I guess so but I'm still not happy with the Bernal's victory.

My favourite was Thibaut Pinot..he was definitely the best climber before getting injured (even without hitting the floor!!) and you couldn't predict what would be if he was in the race till the end...but the fortune signs(many of them) were so clearly in favor of Bernal and some of them even before the race got started.

Wooohooo...Dimitrov defeated Federer at US Open..finally I must say..it was like 0-7 head to head before this match and surely Grigor is better than that.

He's in really good form but I think his belief is what made the difference this time.

But I'm not carried away too much...Medvedev...well he's just crazy.. and a brilliant player on top of that...I still remember his win over Dimitrov a couple of years back at one of the GS tournaments late stages when the Russian has been a total underdog and no one have been even heard of him...so not exactly optimistic for Bulgarian's chances in this one.

Couldn't find the tennis thread? 😉 I think Federer's body is letting his mind down these days. Age catches up with all of us eventually.

Actually on cycling again, did you see the funny story from the Vuelta yesterday? They were using a drone to track the peloton from above and it flew over a building revealing someone's rooftop marijuana crops. The police saw the footage and moved in to seize the crops. 😂

Somehow I've missed that in the live coverage...it's weird cause I've been watching all the stages so far all the way but I heard about it today...what can I say...really poor luck for that "gardener"...probably people should be more cautious there's a cycling race nearby.
