Premier League

The English Premier League is one of the most entertaining football leagues in the world and I would love to discuss all that happens there along with all connected to the PL betting of course.
For example I'm in shock the way standings looks at the moment and particularly the fact that Leicester City has a realistic chances to do the unthinkable and become a champions, who were thought of that before the season starts. I think the odds for that to happen were somewhere around 5000 😲 before the beginning.

Does anyone have any recommendations (for strong teams) of who might do well or potential underdogs to look at?

It can be tough to predict, as the strongest teams usually pay poor odds. But you can look for opportunities to bet against them after they have played European games mid-week. It seems to me that most teams struggle to back up and play well on the weekend a few days later, especially when they have to play a team that did not play mid-week. I think that is where to look for the upsets.

Some exiting games today, no doubtfully Spurs - Liverpool will be the main game but some of te others promise to be interesting too, I think Hull could cause some troubles to United after their really unexpected great start.

Ha in the end Liverpool probably SHOULD have beat Spurs 5-0 but ultimately couldn't get more than a point. They certainly played well and are entertaining to watch but they need to improve especially in defence. Meanwhile the heavyweights roll on with United, City and Chelsea all winning again. I didn't see the games. How did United play?

Wasn't home Ed, so I wasn't able to watch the game but I guess the winning goal in the 90'th+2 should tell the story, the scorer is Rashford who didn't take part in the previous couple of games so that's also speaks about Mourinho feelings in the end of the game.
Completely agree with your Liverpool thoughts Ed, if I wasn't United fan I would probably say they are the most entertaining team to watch in the PL and maybe even Europe- but I'm not saying that 😉
but it looks like sometimes they really don't care they should play in defence - very entertaining but sometimes not very efficient style - I admire that anyway but I don't think this a new problem for them, I think it was the same in Rodgers spell and even before that perhaps.

PL race will be renewed Saturday noon and what a game to begin with , Man United v Man City, I guess it could be the first real test for both teams and we could have few questions answered after this one or maybe not!?

Yeah this is going to be great, mainly because it is on at a reasonable time for me to watch! Normally the games are all on at midnight or later here, but due to the early kickoff it starts at 9:30pm Man City are going to miss Aguero but I hope both teams have ago at each other and attack. I'm not so sure it will happen though as both managers won't be disappointed with a point.

Yes I think you're right Ed, the draw won't be bad for anyone but would be a statement if some of the teams could go out and win. I'd like to see United doing everything possible to win and after that the draw could be an acceptable result in the end.
It's a home game against the damn City who dominated the derby in the last years so United can't afford just go out and play boring for a draw, like in the last seasons of the SAF era, they should be the invader - or at least this is what I want to see in that one.

I know you won't want to hear this given my track record of cursing anyone I tip, but I'm predicting a United win. 2-1 with Zlatan scoring the winner.

I can't believe you've done it again 👎 It's all your fault Ed 😠 😀

But you (almost) guess right 2-1, Zlatan scored 😉

Wasn't able to watch whole the game, but I think it was smart display by City on counters and deserved victory in the end. Think that Ibrahimovic wasn't good enough in some situations which probably cost United a point ( even Rashford goal was cancelled because of him) City win could be even greater if they scored in those situations in the end. Don't looking like a vital result when it's still early days of the season but I think it was vital for the spirits of both sides.

Hahahah I knew it would work! 😉 It was a great game to watch and it was played at a frantic pace. The early goal for City was good because it opened the game up and Mourinho couldn't park the bus. I thought Fernandinho was amazing for City.

Liverpool continued their crazy form, smashing Leicester and scoring some great goals. Lucas played an amazing assist. I'm tipping that they will lose to Chelsea next week (yes I'm getting in early with the kiss...)

I don't think he would be manager of United for too long if using this tactic regularly Ed, don't think mny of the fans would like that.
There's have to be some standards in style when you have one of the most expensive squads in the world I guess.

Everton on fire so far this season this season so I guess we might have a little competition for who will be the higher placed Liverpool side in the end, or maybe not Ed ?
Sunderland in mighty problems once again even though we still at the start, I'm expecting every season for them to go down and they escaped that every time, like a magic, but maybe not this time?

Liverpool looking very impressive at the start of the game with Chelsea, they dominated completely the match, still just 30mins into the game but it looks nicely for Liverpool so far, I'm impressed 👍

So impressive Liverpool this evening!
The win against Chelsea was mighty deserved and when I watched the game was never in doubt about who's going to win it. In fact Liverpool should win 3-0 maybe instead of 2-1 and that's their greatest weakness - still allowing naive goals.
I think if there's any competition for Man City this season it won't be from MU,Chelsea or any other team but Liverpool.

I'm looking for a copy of the game now because I didn't catch it. I saw Henderson's goal though... wow!

If you had told me before the season that Liverpool would have 10 points from 3 away games against Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and 1 at home against Leicester I would not have believed you. It just makes that loss against Burnley all the more of a burn!

Yeah it was a great goal, like the TV commentator said "Steven Gerrard would it be proud to score this"
For me the most impressive thing in the goal was not the shoot itself although it was magnificent strike but sometimes is even question of luck to have this perfect contact with the ball but the way Henderson take the decision to shoot from where it was then and not moving too - not hesitation at all, he knew what he's about to do before even his foot starts moving forward, it was an instinctive reaction just stop and shoot the ball but that shows self confidence and clear mind- something which I think the whole Liverpool team showed during the game.

Another failure for United today, they were defeated by Watford and fully deserved too.
3 loses in a week is anything but expected and Mourino's team starting look like last year's Chelse, I guess the rumours around his future could starting already 🙂
Rashford who was United most exiting player last season made just his first start! in the PL and of course he scored today.
No need to say fans expecting a lot more.

You're right about Henderson's goal. His control of the ball before he shot was perfect. I was really impressed with Liverpool's first half, they were all over Chelsea.

I still can't understand why Man United keep persisting with Rooney, especially putting him in midfield. Its like they are trying to find an excuse to play him in the team no matter what. Maybe its in his contract? They have better midfielders and if he's not good enough to play ahead of the other forwards then he should be on the bench for the good of the team. I think once they figure that problem out they will be ok.

I looked at the premier league table today and noticed how quickly the top 6 or 7 has sorted itself out already with the exception of Everton who have made the most of a relatively soft start to the season. I don't think that there are going to be any surprises this year like last, sadly.

I don't know about Rooney's contract Ed but I still believe he could be a useful player for United, even with the spirit he brings to the team.
Rooney style of play is attached to a lot of physical efforts (running 😉) so I think he's on top of his game when he's fresh.
I was sure he'll be injured last season when he doesn't missed a game trough the mid season under Van Gall and it happened later on, probably he should play just half of the matches anyway.
Physically is very tough ever for a younger players who even haven't that depletive style, but anyway I don't think it's the main problem for United.

Without any surprises in the 3rd round of the EFL Cup, all the big teams goes trough and Man United finally won a game....against Northampton.
I guess Chelsea win over Leicester was the most significant result in this round but relatively easy wins for all the PL top teams, did you watch the Liverpool game Ed?

I didn't see any of the games. After watching highlights and seeing the score I didn't bother watching Liverpool as it didn't sound like the most competitive game. That isn't a bad draw either - a couple of blockbuster premier league ties and a couple of lower league ones too that will guarantee a couple of championship teams progress to the next round.

Exiting Saturday in the PL expecting us with Arsenal - Chelsea will be the central game.

Man City will face Swansea away second time in few days after an EFL midweek 2-1 victory, I think it wont be easy game once again for them.

United face Leicester in home in what I think is a must win game! The just couldn't afford another mistake or they won't be a title contenders, I know it's too early but don't expecting to see City dropping too many points this season, perhaps Liverpool too 😉

Well well well. Man United were a totally different team on the weekend. They blew Leicester away in the first half. Pogba had a very good game and they looked so much more dangerous without Rooney to slow things down while he tries to be everywhere on the field and all over the ball. I sincerely hope they bring him back for the game against Liverpool in a few weeks though!

Arsenal smashed Chelsea too. That second goal of theirs was so beautiful, it was the perfect example of how to pass your way through another team. They look to be getting better every week and Sanchez up front as the striker seems to work really well for them.

Man City 3-1 sounds comfortable but I thought that Swansea played really well and some better finishing might have beaten City on the day. Swansea were also a bit unlucky having a penalty shout turned down then conceding one for an accidental arm to the face. The referee is right as it was a foul but still, unlucky, if De Bruyne was as tall as the defender the arm would have gone across the chest and play on.

I'm being deliberately quiet about Liverpool... head down, hands in pockets, nothing to see here, move along. Lets just say that I've been burnt too many times before!

I know that result confirms your Rooney theory Ed ( or should I say anti-Rooney theory 😉
but he will be back fresher and stronger Ed 😉

Yes I think Rashford and Jese Lingard raised the intense in United game and that's why I was frustrated when in the beginning of the season Mourinho didn't used them at all.

Great win for Arsenal but for me the question is can't they sustain the pressure when they are close to the top teams in the standings, I think they playing easy minded now after the poor start of the season but always failed when they are in title contention.

Liverpool is the most impressive team so far for me and I think they could/should be in the title race this season.

Well I think if they are going to use him they have to realise that he can't play every week. They looked a totally different team on the weekend and I think Jose is smart enough to see why.

And I believe they were about to have a very good chance winning it if...Guardiola wasn't City manager...his teams just can't stop winning in the last seasons...at lest in the local leagues anyway.
Most of the Liverpool players really looking more mature this season and so far they playing really great so let's see..

Everton drew with Palace tonight but I guess after Lukaku's goal from a free kick in which the ball passed over the wall and the discussion is should the wall jump or not on the free kicks.
Palace keeper gesticulated to the wall after the goal that they should have jumped on it but I guess it was coach's instructions that they shouldn't.
This is something which I've considered even before that goal, in the last few months but now there was a discussion after the game, Jamie Carragher said the wall shouldn't jump every time because it's too easy for the taker to anticipate and take advantage of that.
My opinion is that the wall should jump every time and not jumping only when they feel it would be a low kick, most of the free kicks being aimed in the upper half of the goal and it's tougher for the keeper to reach on time and save a shot there so I think the wall should help him jumping and even if the kick is low there's no guarantees it would pass the wall but even if that happens still the keeper should react to that in most of the times.
Of course there's other factors like how close to the penalty is the free kick, frontal or which sided but as a whole I'm for the classical approach by the wall, not jumping is just one of the latest craze in football for me (unless you're one of the wall and have really good reason to believe the kicker will trying to outsmart you)
