Premier League

The English Premier League is one of the most entertaining football leagues in the world and I would love to discuss all that happens there along with all connected to the PL betting of course.
For example I'm in shock the way standings looks at the moment and particularly the fact that Leicester City has a realistic chances to do the unthinkable and become a champions, who were thought of that before the season starts. I think the odds for that to happen were somewhere around 5000 😲 before the beginning.

Here are the odds according to William Hill for tomorrow title contender match ups,

Arsenal v Swansea
1.36 - 4.80 - 8.50

West Ham v Tottenham
4.00 - 3.20 - 2.00

It looks like it will be an easy task for Arsenal, although Swansea make the life so difficult for Totenham last weekend, West Ham could cause some trouble to Spurs, almost guaranteed.

4.00 for West Ham at home seems very generous to me. They have been playing very well and I would be more surprised if Spurs won there than the Hammers.

Looks like a good chance for Arsenal to catch up to the other 2 perhaps?

Well well well. I was right on both counts (and I wish I had bet on the Hammers).

The only thing is that once again Arsenal shot themselves in the foot when presented with a golden opportunity. They were unlucky with the first goal after Ozil was wrestled to the ground in a clear foul when he lost the ball. Bbut the defensive positioning of the right fullback after that was terrible and allowed an easy goal.

Another great week of results for Leicester.

Crazy results again tonight but it's the craziest championship I ever remember in England so.. when Leicester took only point yesterday we were thought their advantage will be cut down and maybe even Spurs will be on the top tonight but to be honest I expected Spurs loss and Arsenal were just stunned by Swansea, it's more and more obvious that it's not going to be their year either. So in fact Leicester raise the gap to 3 points before the weekend games when Spurs will meet Arsenal.

Yeah Leicester will be praying for a draw or an Arsenal win in that match. If they can win and Spurs don't the finish line is in site... so long as they don't do a Liverpool from a few years back... :'(

Here is the odds for the two games which includes the teams involved in the title race.

Tottenham v Arsenal
2.40 - 3.10 - 3.10

Watford v Leicester
2.80 - 3.10 - 2.62

Both games will be pretty tight I think, Arsenal in not a great shape and I don't think Spurs will loose that one, in the other one don't have any idea what might happen, both teams performing pretty good this season.

Another great week for Leicester City they won again and because of Spurs - Arsenal 2-2 draw, their advantage is 5 points now. Everything suggests that this will be their season but still there's 9 games to go. Other underestimated team who is doing great is West Ham, The Hammers sitting currently 5th just a point away from top 4 and if they continue performing like this I think they have all the chances to take a CL spot in the end.

Yes, perfect results for Leicester City on the weekend! Look at their remaining fixtures. They have some very winnable games coming up over the next month but the last 3 in particular are tough so they won't want to depend on those games for points.

Newcastle (h)
Crystal Palace (a)
Southampton (h)
Sunderland (a)
West Ham (h)
Swansea (h)
Manchester United (a)
Everton (h)
Chelsea (a)

It was a lucky last minute win for Liverpool today. I am surprised to see that if they win their game in hand they will be on the same number of points as Man United. I'm not if that proves anything other than how poorly both teams have played this season.

Yeah pretty decent schedule for Leicester City till the end although they can't afford to underestimate any game, they are just not so great to do that 😉 In fact it almost looks too easy schedule, which could be a bad thing either, yeah the last three are tough but that could be a pointless games for Leicester opponents. Probably there will be a point in their season when they will start thinking about the title and the tension could start to pop up.
Midway trough the season everybody talked about how hard Leicester schedule is in the second part of the season and it really looked that way with upcoming away games to Man City and Arsenal and they have done brilliantly so the only thing that worries me right now is that the easy remaining schedule could have a wrong effect over the team but hopefully it won't happen that way.

Agreed Ed, quite lucky win 😉 But really two tough goals from Palace's perspective, especially the penalty in the dying seconds.
Both MU and Liverpool have a decent chances for top 4 now but I honestly don't believe either of them will succeed in the end. Two tough games in Europa League between those up coming next and beside that United plays in the FA Cup which is the most realistic chance (is it realistic at all?) for them to lift the trophy. City are very shaky all season long and I think West Ham could be in the mix. Will be glad if they succeed and why not, it's the craziest season... ever?!

Yeah I would love West Ham, Spurs and Leicester to make the top 4. I don't like competitions where "he who spends the most wins" so I'm enjoying seeing some of the so-called smaller clubs do well. Long may it continue.

Liverpool has no chance of making the top four. None at all. (yes I am trying that approach again)

Europe will be stunned next season, when they see England's reps in the champions league, so to ease it a little bit FA should send it on April 1st this list: LCFC, Spurs, Hammers and the 4th one a.k.a Arsenal!

Yeah, could be quite unexpected English representatives next season in the CL, but really it would be the "grands" fault for that. Anyway, nothing certain still yet for West Ham so only Leicester CL participation would be a "strange" one. But I won't define it as a strange because I think they play best football in PL this season so..

Don't know how I've had missed these comments of yours Ed, I thought exactly the same thing back then. I was sure West Ham not going to loose that one, and should bet it on draw no bet West Ham but anyway I've placed a bet in play but Hammers were all ready in lead so the odds were a lot worst. Nice prediction by the way 👍

Wow nice win. You must have bet on Mainz while in play too? Surely they weren't 2.50 to win away at Bayern before the match.

Yeah you're right Ed Mainz leaded 1-0 and for sure I woudn't be so brave to place a bet for them at 0-0 against Bayern away 😀

Congrats for the win, you must be brave in going for Mainze, even if they were ahead -Lewandowsky could have waken up anytime lol- unless you were watching the match!
I personally don't like "no bet" options - just waste of time- when am not sure I also take the draw also (1X or X2), the odd will be a little bit shorter but I think it's worth it!

Thanks mate but I think anybody have to choose for himself what is the best betting option. Sometimes draw no bet odds are significantly higher than double chance and sometimes it isn't so I think it depends on occasion.

Congrats for the Liverpool win in Europa League Ed, It was a well deserved victory. It could be and maybe should be 3-0 even at the half. I'm just so angry watching United, Van Gaal should be fired long time ago, the team just sucks from the moment since he was appointed, I can't believe that I have to watch 3 United games to see a clear situation in front of the opponents goal! And I'm quite sure there wasn't a goal opportunity in the last 2 against Liverpool and WBA,not Barcelona and Bayern really. Ridiculous performance from United once again!!

You're right and I am amazed at both how well Liverpool played and how awful United were. I think Liverpool were as good or even better than the game last week against Manchester City. But then they were very lucky against Crystal Palace in between. Hopefully they can achieve some consistency over the remainder of the season because when they play like they did tonight they are great to watch. Firmino, Coutinho and Lallana ran rings around United. BUT (its a big but) De Gea kept United in it. The two saves on Coutinho in particular - the first one Coutinho butchered it a bit by going with the right foot but the one on the second half was just wow. Without him it could have been all over at 4-0 or 5-0. The return leg should be great because United have to attack to score some goals but if Liverpool get an away goal it just about kills the tie.

Did you see Fellaini's elbow on Can at the end? I think he might find he is suspended based on the video evidence, but judging how he played tonight that might be doing United a favour!

No I didn't see it , because I was so mad and had to stop the stream before I broke something in about 85th minute 🙂 Just couldn't watch that any more. As a whole I like Fellaini as a player, just don't think Van Gaal uses him in most efficient way but he has an inclination to go mad and do stupid things at times.
It's never a good sign when your keeper is your best player game after game and for the last two seasons De Gea is the best United player in maybe 70% of their games, they wouldn't be nowhere near top 4 last season without him and of course the recent one. For me he's one of the two best keepers in the world and probably even the best one, if the rumors are true and United sell him to Real during summer it will be a disaster. Anyway I don't see who could clear the mess after Van Gaal and Ed Woodward next season if someone of them being fired at all.

Leicester v Newcastle
1.53 - 4.00 - 6.50
This is the odds for today Leicester's game. Newcastle's new manager Rafael Benitez will be in charge tonight and it will be his debut so quite tricky game for prediction I think. Sometimes the change of manager has quite strong and positive impact over the team and really would be tough for Newcastle to play worst than so far in the season so I expect an improvement from them. But will that be enough for them to take something from the game?

It was a tough, tough game for Leicester but Foxes manage to win it 1-0 and increased their lead at the top to 5 points just 8 games before the end. Really all going Leicester way this season and the impossible dream looking more and more real now.

Yeah nice overhead kick, great goal and it was the only accurate shot on goal for Leicester trough the whole game, sometimes you have to win ugly although the goal wasn't.
I'm still not sure about Newcastle they are in very tough situation but I think Rafa could save them. They looked dangerus in the second half against Foxes and with a little bit more luck could even take a point. Obviously only one from Newcastle, Sunderland and Norwich will survive in PL and I think Magpies have maybe the most quality squad from those teams and probably better manager 😉
Anyway the next game will be vital, Tyne–Wear derby is always a great game to watch but now will be decisive for both teams future I think.
I thought you have a higher opinion of Rafa Benitez as a manager Ed 😉

Oh don't worry I do, I think Rafa is great. But Newcastle look terrible.

He'll be able to organise them and you saw in the match the other night that they defended a lot better. But I just don't think they have the confidence or the ability to score many goals and that isn't going to change quickly. Their next two games are crucial (Sunderland and Norwich) and it might be a bit early to play them with the new manager. They should have made this decision a month ago and they would have been better prepared. But they also get to play Villa, Swansea and Palace before the end of the season so they have every opportunity to pick up points against some of the weaker teams of this season.

Sunderland were quite lucky in every of the last 3 seasons when they avoided relegation always in the last weeks so I think their luck is about to come over now ( or at least that what happens with Villa) but I'm sure just in one thing when it comes to a relegation battle - it's always unpredictable.
