Yeah Anderson looks exhausted in the final making so many unforced errors, obviously his feet didn't moved properly at all.

And Djokovic is definitely back near his best, maybe it's not the big four as it was before but we have the big three now and that's a promise for an exiting future of the men's tennis I believe.

Too easy for Djoka in the end. Let's hope he keeps up that sort of form and can return to the top consistently.

Yeah agree Ed, I think that would make it more interesting at the top.

I think he's the only person with a positive record against both Federer and Nadal and that when we have in mind he breaks last from these in the top tennis and was always on the loosing side to them in his first senior years. So that record should speaks for itself,

I think that if Nadal was the Anderson opponent at the final the match would of Finnish even faster as we know the Spaniard showing no mercy against a weaker opposition but Djokovic is the man for the big matches.

So its the "perfect" French Open draw now with the top four seeds the only ones remaining for the semis. I can't see Federer knocking over Nadal on clay so its going to be a Nadal vs Djoka final isn't it?

I've not seen any of this year RG matches Ed, and I even didn't knew the scores(shame on me) so probably not the person who should make any forecasts...but ๐Ÿ™‚ when it started I thought in the form Djokovic and Nadal entering the tournament and being 1 and 2 seeded...well that should be the final...not going to run away from that now.

In fact I hope Djokovic could defeat Nadal...but if Federer is capable of beating Nadal on clay...well..I won't be disappointment at all by that...just it's tough to believe he could do it.

Well see I kissed Djokovic with the death curse! It was easy for Nadal in the end like it usually is in this tournament. Thiem at least took a set but after that it looked like Nadal said well I've given the fans their money's worth, now I'm just going to end the match.

Ha...I don't think that's on you Ed, probably I could take the blame for kiss of death this time saying that Djokovic could beat Nadal...well OK let's split it 50/50 between us ๐Ÿ™‚

I saw the whole thriller at the semis between Thiem and Nole lasting for over 24h. and surely the playing conditions weren't normal because of that storming wind in day 1 but generally Djokovic's attitude was too negative while Thiem accepted it and in my opinion was the better player of the course of a 2 day match.
Anyway, I've been quite sure that whoever going to win that wouldn't be able to be equal to Nadal for more than 2-3 sets on the final, the Spaniard had a long rest meanwhile and that only added to his advantage in a match that he would of been a favorite anyway.

Hope that things would look different at Wimbledon.

It's been an amazingly exiting sporting day yesterday..isn't it, I could say one of the most exiting ones despite watching sport for the biggest part of my life really.

Djokovic - Federer was another spectacle although the cricket final was the top of the three for me.

I thought Djokovic didn't play nowhere near his best, not that decisive in the crucial moments as we use to seen him before and Federer played quite well for the biggest part but still unable to win it.

I've switched the channel to concentrate entirely on cricket when it was like 6-5 and 40/15 at the Federer serve in the last set because it was obvious the Swiss will win it....but surprise surprise like half an hour later I accidentally changed the channel again just to see it's 12-12 and they were about to play a tiebrack.

Never been a Federer fan(to say the least ๐Ÿ™‚ ) but I kind feel for him the way he lost the match in three tiebreaks and Djoko(at least for me) not on top of his game, I really thought he will loose that.

Yeah I read that Federer won a lot more points than Djoka in the match, and obviously a few more games too. He had his chances though, with those two match points on serve. I'm not sure about the tie break at 12-12 in the fifth. I know they don't want the matches to go on forever but I think an exception could be made for the final!

Yeah I agree on the tiebreak subject Ed, I was surprised to see there's a tiebreak to be played at 12-12 cause I wasn't aware...and I wonder if it's just for Wimbledon or it's valid for RG and Australian open already...probably sooner or later they'll stick to US open tiebreak rules and I don't think it would be a big deal once the players have settled for it.

And you know what comes to my mind speaking of a tiebreak at 12-12...that's still been the longest in length final match at Wimbledon..like 5 hours or something..the women's final ended in about 50mins!!
And that's just for the final matches.

I don't argue women should get less prize money - just the opposite... but common...make them play 3 out of 5 at the GS (women's final arguably wouldn't last more than hour and a half with the form Halep showed anyway) but if they can't play 3/5 (for whatever reason that is unknown to me) I would be really considering make it men's matches 2 out of 3 if I was in the ATP board or something.

Don't get me wrong I love all the traditions but that just doesn't seems fair as it stands.

Couldn't find the tennis thread? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lol, I've completely forgot about it Ed,it's maybe because of my stupidity... but once again I would blame the vodka...๐Ÿ˜‚the truth is it's probably mix of those factors๐Ÿ˜‰ But we're in the right thread eventually๐Ÿ˜›

Quote:

I think Federer's body is letting his mind down these days. Age catches up with all of us eventually.

I've had never been a Federer fan but I must admit he's one of..if not the greatest ever played the game...you know what's most frightening thing though?! I'm older than him (probably you too) and I'm still considering myself as a relatively young man...๐Ÿ™‚ (no need to laugh I said relatively) and we think about the guy as a dinosaur in the game.

So.. it's a bit tough for me to sympathize the guy cause probably 95%+ of the tennis players are long retired at that age and lets be honest Federer is still in this sport just to improve even further some of his records...and in fact for the money?!?

I've had never shared the opinion you have to retire on the top of your game...for every professional athlete it's a job like every other regular person...in the end that's what they've been doing for most of their consciousness life and if you think you can still win or just make some more money...you otherwise couldn't make after retirement... why not?!?

But that's his own choice...honestly I don't see Federer winning another GS title unless he's fully concentrated on Wimbledon let's say and taking a long break before that...but of course he could prove me wrong.

Thanks for reminding me that I am older than Federer too! ๐Ÿ˜’ You're right though, he isn't a pensioner at 38, but we're talking about elite sport here. He is regularly playing guys who are half his age or less.

I don't think he's all about the money as he has so much he probably doesn't know what to do with it all. Maybe he just loves playing the game.

My pleasure Ed, didn't want to be alone in that๐Ÿ˜‰

Ha-ha..yeah I guess that's an option too...surely he loves the game otherwise he would of been long gone...not saying he's doing it for the money..that's just a bonus...you know what they say the more you have the more you want....

I think his main motivation is to set the bar really high for all his GS records but not only which would guarantee they won't be matched any time soon (probably not in our life time)

I think in the Federer early days as a top player there wasn't any serious competition for him and all his fans and journalist have been spoken how he will win 40-50 GS titles...that's why I'm so happy from the the fact players like Nadal(although I can't stand the guy) and Djokovic have appeared otherwise it would it been so boring.

Any impressions about the Australia Open Ed?

To be honest I've completely missed this one..don't even checked the scores, just heard some of the names that will be in involved in the quarters.

Yeah I've only watched a little. Federer has had a couple of long tough 5 setters which surely has to catch up to him sooner or later at his age and in this heat. So I'm expecting Djokovic to win their semi as he has been cruising through in 3 sets every match. I can't see anyone beating Nadal on the other side of the draw either.

Yeah, I agree mate, Djokovic - Nadal final wouldn't surprise anybody.

Felling a bit awkward when you've been speaking about the heat over there and the temperatures here are minus whatever for the last couple of months.

Ha-ha...right after I wrote that above I've checked the scores and saw Nadal has lost his match...but will leave it as it is to point my stupidity and unawareness.

But well done to Thiem, maybe it's time for his biggest moment now๐Ÿค”

You see that right there is my famous kiss of death. It is so strong that it can even make Nadal lose.

Djokovic to win the final, no matter who he plays! (that means bet on the other guy) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ha-ha...yeah I've been remembering that about Nadal...

You tried to make the same for the final...aren't you naughty boy!?๐Ÿ˜‰

But it doesn't work on Djoko..๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜€

No, the truth is I've been quite impartial watching the final... of course I wanted Nole to win it but from the other hand Thiem has played already at so many SF and finals in the GS that I thought it's about time for him to win one...felt a bit sorry for the guy...
but I think he'll win his first GS this year...could be a bit brave of a prediction..especially having in mind that his best surface is clay...so I'll ask you for one more kiss on Rafa then...just for me...and Dominic๐Ÿ˜‰

I don't know if even my kiss of death is strong enough to make Nadal lose on clay. That might be asking for just a bit too much. How about this instead: there is no way that Nadal will be injured and miss the French Open, he'll play and win it easily.
