Hey Ed, how things going with the team you playing for?

Are you doing OK?

And what about the team you support, Sydney FC if I'm not mistaken, how they're doing?

My over 35s team won the league so we get to play in a knockout cup competition now which is like the old champions league. Our first game is in two weeks and we will be playing against a team with a few ex-pros that played in Europe. We may have to score past an ex-international goalkeeper... will let you know on that one. We won the cup last year and beat them too so its not as bad as it sounds!

The Australian league doesn't start until next weekend. Sydney FC has played a few pre-season games and a couple of cup matches. They are still in the cup which is good and they look to have a pretty strong team this year compared to recent seasons. They signed a guy called Bobo who scored a lot of goals in the Turkish league so hopefully he turns out to be good. It can be hard to tell as we play through the summer here to align with the European leagues so it can be hot for some matches, and the league is pretty physical, so players used to playing in Europe all their life can struggle. He is Brazilian though and has been playing in Turkey so he should be ok.

The first game of the season is massive as it is the local derby against Western Sydney. They are expecting the 80,000 seat stadium to be sold out. I'm really looking forward to this season. The standard of the football is improving every year and its always a very competitive league that just about any team can win. Its a nightmare to bet on though as there are a lot of draws and upsets!

Hopefully you could repeat last years achievement Ed, fingers crossed for your veterans team.
Keep me informed about it, what's your position on the field anyway? Not gk right 🙂 ? Let me guess - right back? 😜

Didn't know there are so huge attendances in the Australian league like those 80 000! That's huge mate, obviously the league becoming very popular, glad to hear.

Yeah that guy seems to have a nice CV and I doubt he will has a problem with the conditions because he played in Brazil last seasons, the only worrying thing is that it looks his best days are far behind but hopefully he will perform for your team.
That's why I love Australian leagues Ed, just because of the upsets, had a few good winnings over the years so I'm looking forward to the start.

No I'm no defender! I'm more of a midfielder / attacker. One of the front 3 in a 4-3-3 usually.

This will be the first time we get 80,000 to a regular season game. As the derby has become so popular they are moving it to the Olympic stadium which is kind of half way between both teams home grounds which are both much smaller. Previously Western Sydney did not want to play away from their home ground but I thin the potential for a lot of money has changed their minds which you can't blame them for.

Most of the "big name" players that get signed over here have their best years behind them. Thats just the way it is. But we get some very good players from lesser Euro and South American leagues or other guys who didn't make it there for one reason or another. I think that they really should be looking at more Asian players.

Glad for you Ed 👍 No offence 😀 I didn't used defender as an insult...this time 😉

Yes I think it's a great idea, there's nothing wrong for them to make some money if there is a huge interest trough the game, something similar to what they doing in NHL with these outdoors stadium matches.

Don't worry about that Ed, it's the same in MLS despite the Americans throwing a lot more money 😉 Just their retires are little bit more famous 🙂

So Big Sam didn't last long did he? While I think the so-called "journalism" that these English newspapers do is disgusting, I don't have much sympathy for him given what he was trying to do. The man has undoubtedly proven himself to be an idiot (again?).

Once again England are the laughing stock of world football. 😂

"Its not for me to tell Rooney where to play". No Sam, not anymore.

Who is going to be next with their head on the chopping block do you think?

I tell you who they should go for but probably won't - Laurent Blanc.

I heard something but thought it's a joke or something, didn't even know the reason for Big Sam leaving, now I looked for it after read your post.

I don't have an idea who is going to be the next manager but would like to see a young manager at last, enough with those retires who are average class anyway.

Here's the odds of Bet365 for a new manager and the most interesting is that Arsene Wenger is third!!! favourite to take the job despite Arsenal flying at the moment, would be waste of money if someone bet on that.

Yeah all that list shows is that nobody has a clue. Wenger, Shearer, Klopp, Beckham, Gerrard, Scholes, Mourinho, Cantona, Rio Ferdinand... really, come on.

Your guess Laurent Blanc is at 34.00 Ed, might worth a try that odds, but when I know the taste of the FA management I would guess someone with at even higher odds -41.00 for Harry Redknapp

Yeah old 'Arry ... another who likes a bit of money on the side. I don't think they would be that stupid to go there again, but you never know, they appointed Sam in the first place didn't they.

There's others on request underline and I might request one - Gary Neville, surprised not to see him in the list, the guy was Valencia's coach last season for goodness sake 😀 , right, far away from a perfect one but at least has some experience unlike Rio and Beckham and Gerrard who has a well paid job 😉

My favorite teams are chelsea and juventus, the players I like best are Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (chelsea) and edgar davids (juve), I have cried 2x (reality) caused by football, I cried when Chelsea failed to win in 2003-2004, at that time Chelsea lost to a truly unbeatable arsenal performance at the premiere league , and when Juventus lost in the champions league final against real madrid in 1997-1998, and it was a sincere tear beyond the sincere tears for woman :'( 😀

Hasselbaink was a great scorer, I remember him, Eidur Gudjohnsen up front also Zola, Viali before that Chelsea were quite nice team back then but not winning much trophies, if any.

At that time Chelsea had the "dream team" with hasselbaink and gudjhonsen as a striker, but at that time the arsenal was not invincible, so it was the most heartbreaking period

Chelsea won a lot of trophies after that so that should of been erased the pain...from the previous underachievements, they should be considered as the second most successful team in England in the last 20-30 years, only behind Sir Alex's United so...

100% sharpe, chelsea finds his identity after mourinho is recruited as manager, but sir alex still can not shift a bit when still with united, I think he is the only scotland guy who got the title "sir" from the UK, very step and very difficult achieve such a glory,
Hats off for sir alex 🙂

They are a very decent team to be proud of, and only munich earned the most trophies in Germany, he is equivalent to real madrid, man united, juventus, with the most trophies in their respective countries, and to this day they still look very strong, no team is really capable to stop the power of munich, he is the best team in germany, europe, even the best in the world ,.

I'm pretty sure Sir Alex Ferguson is not the only Scottish who got that rank but anyway...in principle I don't like Mourinho at all but that's another theme.

Bayern is the best team in Germany (which is not so tough when we know their yearly budget is almost equal to the all of the rest Bundesliga teams)... but in the world, that's pretty hard statement, I'm sure Barca and Real fans have something to say about that 😉
They won the Champions League(ex European champions cup) only twice in the last 40 years while real and Barcelona have 3 each in the last decade.

It's true sharpe, when we see from some trophies that they achieve, munich is not as good as madrid or barca, but from the most trophies in each league barca still lose the number of trophy with munich, right? And I agree on what you say about munich in the champions league, they have always been unlucky in the last few decades, maybe it's because the championship and bundesliga league schedule is too close, so that's something unfavorable for munich, are you barca fans sharpe... 😀

Bayern now is strong but they are just not lucky in the end. In the bundesliga Bayern is giant and in the Champions League they are is great. But just not lucky.
May be the next season they will be the champion of champions league. I wish that.

No I'm not a Barcelona nor Real fan at all, that's just the facts, I'm not even fan of the Spanish football in general but they dominate on the European scene in the last decade and even on the nationals teams level could be said.
Munich has 27 titles in the Bundesliga and has won 9 of the last 13 titles.
Barcelona has 24 but I think they have a lot more competition in Spain in face of Real and Atletico than Bayern in Germany in the last 10-15 years, the number of titles they won in that time confirms just exactly that.

I could agree they've been unlucky at times but to excuse their performances in the Cl in the last years as just unlucky is quite naive I think.
Just Spannish football dominates lately and not only Barca and Real but Sevilla three Uefa cups in a row are another proof of that, English, French and German teams should think what they could do to oppose better to the Spaniards.

Yes it's probably because Spain is the most favored destination by football players all over the world, so in spain is where superstar players are not just for madrid or barca, but all teams are in spain, so I think it's fair enough in championship leagues that dominate is spain, because all the world's best players are there

I`an a huge fan of English Premier league. Favorite team is Liverpoo, sad but i`ve never been on Anfield or saw LFC players live. Gerrard and Carragher once visited Kazakhstan as English national team, but it was no chance for me to visit match.

It is a desire of every fansclub, to see a favorite club game, and to visit at the stadium is great, very memorable, especially if the preferred club is a world-class big club, if I am a lot of money I will also visit juve stadium, or chelsea , because I am their fans 😀
