Stupidest Bet Ever

4 replies • Last post

So, I did it folks. I've made the worst bet ever. Yesterday was Independence Day for us Americans, and the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest was being held. The current champion, Joey Chestnut was -5000 to win this year's competition, but the interesting bets were whether or not he'd be able to break his record of 76 wieners. I was skeptical, but saw DraftKings with a bet of over/under 72.5 hot dogs. I thought "You don't bet the under on greatness. You go OVER!" and I smacked down a $100 bet with -120 odds.

As the event was set to get underway, a massive thunderstorm came down upon Coney Island, New York, causing the event to be canceled. I thought, "Well that sucks, but at least I'll get my bet back." Wrong. The event, despite being canceled was called back on two hours later, and the bets weren't refunded. It was on. Unfortunately for me, these competitive eaters have a whole process for being able to down as much food as they do. The time delay, mixed with the heat and humidity saw an underwhelming performance by Chestnut, as he only managed to cram 62 wieners down his gullet. This was enough to handily beat the runner-up, but caused me to lose my bet.

Will this be the last time I bet on the hot dog contest? Probably not. Will it be the stupidest bet I've ever made? Probably.

I am flabbergasted! I always knew you were partial to shoving a weiner down your throat but this, this is ridiculous.

I think so. Apparently they go out back and vomit it all up afterwards. Gross. 🤢🤮
