Whats your favorite strategy for playing slot tournaments?

9 replies • Last post

Does anyone have a favorite strategy when playing slot tournaments? Does it get you the win?

Personally, I always try to keep the variance up on slot machines. Ill change my bet every 5-10 spins whether I'm changing the bet size or the betting speed. Its landed me some big wins in my past. I know the reels are pre programmed but it helps me catch those big payouts quickly. I can jump up in the ranks fast and then decide if I want to hold my bets at a lower range. I still keep an eye on bank roll but i'll venture up in my bets as much as I can afford to

There are several types of tournaments from my experience.
You are referring to slot tournaments in WGS casinos, I guess?

Yeah I guess it depends on the specific kind of tournament, but isn't the "strategy" generally just to spin as fast as you can?

Yes WGS tournaments are the ones I play most often. I usually play the tournaments on Red Stag or Interops. They start with a set amount of starting credits and run for a certain of time. The top players win a prize according to their place in the tournaments finishing time. Good question. I'll have to research the different tournament types because they all probably differ in what the best strategy is.

I used to play a lot of these tournaments back when WGS were called Vegas Technology. They used to be very gameable and you could be almost guaranteed to bank a load of wins. I don't think much of this still applies but I used to use the following strategies depending on the tournament:

On the bigger monthly tourneys you could often pay the buy-in and play the minimum 5 spins at 1c each and then just sit in the money zone as most of the other entrants played and busted. While only a small win individually, groups like English Harbour had 5 or 6 casinos and you could enter the same tournament at each which made it easy to make a quick profit.

You could "buy" the tournament using re-buys that increased your balance without playing. On the big money tournaments you would spend far less on rebuys that you would win in prize money.

Then at one stage I discovered that when you did a rebuy they took your name off the leaderboard until you made your mandatory 5 free spins. This allowed you to remain invisible to the rest of the tournament while you built your balance with rebuys. Then once you had a balance bigger than the leader you played the mandatory spins at the last minute and appeared right at the top of the leaderboard for a win, with no time for anyone else to beat you. They eventually changed things so you weren't invisible any more.

In terms of playing strategy the best thing is to go for high variance (i.e. bets as big as possible) and hope for a big win, then sit on it. Let the other players play and play. The more you play, the more chance you have of busting in the end. This can be difficult though as often they will start you off with a tiny balance that only allows you to make 1 or 2 spins at max bet.

I was waiting to hear Ed's stories about gaming Vegas Technology. I've been on this site about a decade now, and that still sits as one of my favorite gambling stories. Ahh, the good ol' days!

Well, you know, Casino Brango and Casino Extreme are owned by the same company.
And, if you find the freeroll tournaments, you can find one or two more in Casino Extreme, too 🙂

Good luck on your freeroll tournaments 🙂

Hi, I am sorry for the late reply.

I haven't played in those casinos for the last 2 years. The tournament prizes were various like 500, 400, 300, or 50 x 10 prizes, etc.

They have regular monthly and weekly tournaments, plus special holiday tournaments, etc.
