Walking Away For An Extended Casino Break , Easy Or Hard ?

30 replies • Last post

I found myself at a crossroads today, on a losing streak to big for me, so once again, like I've done several times before, I'm staying away from slots for a few days to a week, maybe more. But it's not always as easy as my decision today was . Wondering if anybody else takes a break, or maybe no matter what, cant take a break. If you're on a big slide and you're not winning anything for days, do you keep playing or step back a bit, who finds it easy to do and who finds it hard?

Man you are doing the right thing, full credit to you. It should not be hard because we should be playing with spare entertainment money that we can afford to lose, not the rent. But reality isn't always that cut and dried is it?

Chasing your losses rarely works in a players favor . In poker, its called tilt, but with poker, for me, no limit hold em, you play through it, keep your head up, play smart, and the bad streak will eventually pass and you'll find yourself on the other end of the spectrum where everything goes your way. But with poker you have choices, slots, every spin is a random shot that's not in a players favor, so better to step aside for awhile and watch the cold streak go away from a distance.

Oh no, not necessary, but thanks for looking out for me, reading and talking about slots and gambling for me personally works as an excellent substitute. I'm not easily triggered, as I have had to battle addictions in my past much larger than this, of course this is me personally, dont want to offend anyone that's fought a gambling addiction in their life. My point is though, I have learned a lot about addiction in general, unlike the other, with this one I can be close and still be safe . I hit the news section more often during these times lol

The words of wisdom...

I think after the initial fury, madness(whatever you wish to call it) because of the losses being in a loosing streak it's even a natural thing for anybody to step away for a while.
Think it's normal to loosing interest in gambling when the bad streak don't seem to be over any time soon, or at least that's what happens to me in the last years.

Once I would keep betting till being completely broke...so there's also some advantages of getting older...I mean experienced 😉

I think its very easy to want to give into chasing those losses, even when you're normally keeping a level head about gambling. The allure of "that next big win" setting things right makes it awfully tempting to go for it. Good on you seeing that.

both things happened to me playing slots and also playing no limit hold em...
most of the times it was easy to take a break when i had a loosing streak because i was frustrated losing my money. but i remember a few situations especially when i was playing no limit hold em and i could not
win a singel hand no matter how good my hand was....and I did what many people do when they are
really tilting i started playing at higher stakes to recover my losses.
higher stakes = better players ...so i was broke faster than I could say wtf !

that was never really a big deal because i tried to build a bankroll from scratch 95% of the times playing with a no deposit bonus or freerolls .but double frustrating on the other hand because it took so much time to build a bankroll from nothing and then lose it all in 2 hours.
it happened "only" 2 times that i deposited and lost more money than i could afford on online casino games so far... now i've set myself a limit to avoid this in the future

Going into 48 hours coming up, haven't deposited a dime, I played a few freerolls yesterday, I played some poker with money that was already in that account. So I'm still on track. As long as my money stays out of the casinos, and I dont make any deposits then I'm doing exactly what I need to be doing right now. At 14 million, I could find myself just dumping my money into Mega Moolah right now. So that's my finish line. A break until Mega Moolah shoots millions of dollars at somebody other then me lol. I learned today that slot could give me problems in the future if I don't control myself, I like the game and that much money is tempting, in my mind, if you're playing it, you have just as much chance as everybody else playing it, but if you don't play you don't have any shot at winning. So times like these I find myself putting more then my allowed budget in just so I'm always playing and having that "chance".

Yeah setting the budget is king. If you can set one and stick to it, you'll be good.

Great advice Slim, but that's the toughest part isn't it?!

We probably all (here in this thread) know the basic rules of gambling which should prevent us from troubles but probably too few in fact follow those in full, I doubt these are more than 1% from the total number of players and they are called a professional gamblers.

Yep, I'm aware of that rule slim, I hear it a lot, everytime before I make a deposit I think of that rule. I have never followed it.But i revised it several months ago, this one i do follow most of the time. It was either find a way to stick to my very small online gaming budget, or i cant play, ever, Texas hold em included, and i love playing that one . Since I couldn't follow that 1 simple rule, I broke it down into more manageable rules. Example, if I deposited, say 50$, and I had access to more money, rent money, food money, money not for me to gamble away, the 50 no matter how I tried, I knew I I could just deposit more, and I would burn through that 50 very fast, then dip into the other money with little guilt. Some of us know, with a family, kids, what I did there is not acceptable from a proud father, husband ,boyfriend. You cant stand there proud of you're stealing from your family. So I stopped budgeting with the 50, and started budgeting with the same 50$ but with the games instead. So I hit one of my favourites, Flame Busters, I never bet huge, so I know if I make 50 spins at .20 cents, and nothing's happening, it wont happen and get out. Or my budget will be for that one game, if I lose say 7$, get out right there, if I find myself up 25 at any given point, I exit. Exit when winning is tougher to do then exiting when losing lol . But with those little rules, if I stick to them, I can stretch that 50$ for hours, if I'm lucky, days with a cash out in between somewhere. If I just have the rule in my mind and I'm really only thinking 50$, it just never worked for me. At Circus.be they let you take whatever amount of your bankroll into each slot, so if you run out and lose however much you decided to bring into that slot, you have to exit the game to access your bankroll again, for many of us, ar that point, its much easier to walk away from a losing machine/slot then it would be if you had all your money in that losing game with you at the same time, just one more spin, just one more spin. If I'm already out of the losing game, I choose a new one every time, I think every casino should have this option, alright I'm done rambling, thanks to those of you who read these in full lol

Glad to hear you're in control man, I'm having a bit of bad period in terms of gambling my self, but not as tough as yours.

Your longer post was in fact an interesting read for me, just a piece of advice - you could make it a bit more readable next time with a bit of redaction job - new lines and all that 🙂

Hey sharpe, I'll definitely keep that in mind for next time. To be honest, I had absolutely no plans to type all of that out lol, that one got away on me. When I was done and posted it, is when I actually realized how much I put down. Hence the reason for my message immediately after haha
I know I have a wide variety of words at my disposal, just so I'm not always using the same words for the same things over and over, but as far as breaking something like that one above up into paragraphs, I wouldn't even know where to start.

Oh, and to leave an update on my mission before I go, I caved today, I threw 10$ into ikibu casino , that 10$ lasted me probably around the 3 hour mark, broke up into 3 different sessions throughout the course of my evening. But the point for me wasn't to deposit very little, it was to not deposit at all.
Since that dangerous one for me, in Mega Moolah is still lurking with huge numbers, I have to get back on track after a brief hiccup through my mission.

i had the same problem as sharpe with the discripion of your $ 50 rules and i
was to lazy to read the long text a 2. or maybe a 3. time to understand what mean...anyway.

i had to fight aginst more than one addiction problems in my life so far so i don't want to give you any stupid advices ! but the fact that you have such a big broblem by not depositing money for "only" 3 days looks to me like a flashing red sign. the good thing is that you start to realize it and talk about it here otherwise you would not have opened this topic.

Hey vomvom12, maybe you should have red all the way through before you commented. That long difficult to understand rant is almost all about ways I have learned in my own experiences, on how to play within my budget, little things that work for me to be able to stay in control , within my budget, with very little difficulty.
I shared those because of the " number one rule" that lots know about , but have difficulty following sometimes, which was also briefly talked about further up than that.

Hi, WaroftheGods 🙂

How are you holding up?

I haven't played any game for a little over a month. Actually, I went online only a few and short times.
I had to take care of my aunt in her house after she was injured in a car accident, where she doesn't have internet 🙂

She is recovering good, so I just came home yesterday.

One month break is very refreshing for me.

How about you taking a little long break, too ? 🙂

hey WaroftheGods you have get me wrong..
as you can see i am from germany end my english is not very good at all.for sure sometimes it
happens that I misinterpret parts of the context...if that is the case here then i am sorry for that.
you can be sure that i have read the hole thread from top to bottom and replayed to your original post/question above
i have read my last post again and by writing: "i don't want to give you any stupid advices" i did not mean the other members who have replayed to your topic i meant people who have no idea of the whole thematic...gambling in general and gambling addiction in particular

Hey coolsongss, welcome back, I'm on just stepping back for a few days, a week maybe. I got on a losing streak, that didn't look like it was ending anytime soon lol I started losing money I cant afford to lose, and making some not so smart decisions. So instead of continuing down that path I decided to just step back and let that bad luck losing streak pass me by instead of trying to play through it.Hope your aunt is doing good.

If I may guess, are you a lot or investing too much for games from microgaming? Haha, just kidding,

I also felt a pretty bad line in the last week which finally forced me to stop playing online casinos because there was nothing I could deposit to play, yes it was quite heavy, and I thought I had experienced the same thing over and over since I knew the world of online casinos, and things like this will come and go like a spinning wheel, sometimes under and sometimes on top. That's if you agree with me ...lol...btw good luck

Hi everyone,

Long time since I posted. I also have not been playing any casino's. The last casino I was playing (still have some money there) I just kept losing no matter what game I tried (slots). So I stopped. It's not fun to keep losing.. Nice to take a long break!

Hey Eljuno, lol ya I like microgaming, a better way to describe it would be, not so much that I favour them over other providers. It's that I trust them more than any other provider out there lol so I tend to play them fairly often.

My extended break has been for the most part successful, I managed to deposit only 10$, other then that, I played freerolls, and used the free spins, but not my own money. When I started playing again, my bad luck was gone, for now.

Check out my screenshots in Perpetual thread for winners. Post your winning screenshots & win CLchips!

Not huge wins, but for what I was wagering, they are pretty handsome wins lol

Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's hard. When I'm losing, I find myself chasing the big win and it almost never works out. So the best thing to do is take a break.

I'm not sure exactly how many days I went, I stopped counting. But I accomplished exactly what I set out for in the first place, take a step back and let the losing streak pass on by without losing any more money.
So I played over the weekend, and the bad luck was definitely gone lol. I didn't deposit very much, and i did manage to cash out more then i deposited , plus with all the good luck happening, I was able to play quite a bit and have fun doing it.

Mission accomplished. . . . . This time 🙂
