Jackpots and playing slots in general

8 replies • Last post

Hello All!
This is my first main post in the forum!
I have a few questions on jackpots and on slots and just general playing. Im new to playing slots and what not!. Ive only been playing for about 2 months tops. I use Coral online, I only play few slots like foxin wins and winnings of oz and also monty python's spamalot big jackpot,

So here are a few questions!.
How do you workout the odds of you winning on a spin whether its 40p or £5 +, because these games are on so many sites how can you bet ud win?
Also Ive been betting very small like 25p stake or 50p stake, would it be worth upping it a little to say a £1 or £1.25 as i mainly seem to win pence rather than the £5 + , I seem to run out of money rather quickly!.

What's the deal with bonuses on casinos ?. I see deals but never actually sign up because i thought bonuses where for newcomers.

Also what would you say in your honest opinion is a good place to go for online casino? I find coral alright but its just the same games which rarely pay out, Rainbow riches can payout well but mostly it doesn't on coral. My mum and her partner are on william hill and they seem to be getting a lot of winnings over the last 1-2 weeks and i've just lost haha!!. IS there something im doing wrong or just bad luck?!!. So I read reviews on casinos on here and some do look rather good! so I wanted to ask! whats your experience with bet365 casino online?
This site gave em a 10/10 rating and it has a good welcome bonus?.

last question! sorry guys for all the questions and mumble!. How do you go about winning a jackpot?. I was playing everybody's jackpot and the game says any main game can trigger the jackpot, So i bet 40p and was lucky to get a win above £2 ! let alone striking the jackpot!. So what is the deal with these jackpots?!

Again sorry for so many questions!!.
All the best
Adam

Hi Adam, loads of questions there so I'll try to tackle them in order.

It is very difficult to work out the odds of winning on a single spin on a slot or fruit machine. For the vast majority of online slot machines, your bet size does not affect your chances of winning on that single spin. Lets say you bet 20p and win £1. If you had bet £2, you would have won £10, which is exactly the same relative to your bet size i.e. 5x your bet.

Bet size can affect your chances of winning a randomly awarded jackpot on some games, which are paid out in addition to the regular spin prize, irrespective of the symbols on the game (most games are not like that though).

Assuming you have a fixed budget, if your money is running out rather quickly I would be inclined to decrease your bet size rather than increase it. That way you will get more spins, more play time, and more chances of hitting a jackpot or big prize on a game. If you increase your bets, then yes the payouts will scale and you can win more, but its all relative, and you can lose your bankroll much quicker if or when you hit a bad run.

Bonuses are an incentive that the casinos use to encourage players to deposit. The most common is a match bonus, where they match whatever you deposit with a percentage bonus. eg. You deposit £30 and they give you a 100% bonus of another £30, so you have £60 to play with in total. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch though, and they will have a bunch of rules concerning what you can play, how much you can wager on each spin, and also what is known as wagering requirements. If the wagering requirements are for example 30x your bonus amount, then in the scenario I gave above, your £30 bonus would come with 30 x £30 or £900 in wagering requirements. This means you have to spin through £900 in total before you are allowed to withdraw. If that sounds complex or not very fun, then I recommend you decline taking the bonuses. We have a lot more on bonuses here:

We have recommendations on each page here which are specific to your country. You're in the UK so you have loads of good casinos to choose from. Coral are very good. One thing to keep in mind is that the vast majority of casinos do not have any control over the payout rates of the games that they offer. They are set by the developers of the game, and most are the same at every casino. So for example Rainbow Riches at Coral is exactly the same as Rainbow Riches at Ladbrokes or Betfred or Gala or anywhere else that has it.

I would avoid William Hill. We actually have them blacklisted here. To cut a long story short, one of the other casinos they now own ripped off a woman who won $4 million and only paid her $2m. They soon after sold to William Hill who also refused to pay it, saying it was the previous owner's responsibility. She never got paid what she was owed.

Bet365 is excellent. They have a huge number of games and they pay very quickly when you withdraw. Their welcome bonus is average though, with 40x wagering requirements which I regard as a bit high. I won't claim anything higher than 30xB myself.

Press spin and cross your fingers. There really isn't any strategy or tactic that can make you win one. Bear in mind that games with progressive jackpots that build up with every spin from each player usually always have a much lower payout rate on the base game (i.e. all the wins that are not the jackpot). This is because the player's wagers are used to fund the jackpot as they play. If you want your money to last longer, you're better off playing games without a progressive jackpot.

Hello All Thank CL-ED for the reply!!. Il reply in order myself!! so here it goes!

Very informative !! just what i needed to get me going!. I normally put aside around £30-£40 a week for betting which isn't much., I normally put £10 a time and go from there ! If i do feel lucky il put £20 on. But i do like betting £1 per spin.

Thank you! I wont worry about the odds too much. I used to play the uk national lotteries and the odds of winning are like 2.91 or even lower than that so not worth playing really and i wondered if it was the same with slots etc!!. but i won't worry about it too much!.

I may try betting £2 or something when i got a little more cash flow and after christmas is over with for the year!..

Il take a look at the bonuses page! thank you!. I don't really bother with bonuses really but just did not know how to use them and I've read on here people have had issues with bonuses so was not quite sure if they worth signing up for!. But il give it a miss!.

with my bankroll I try and put aside a nice sum, because i find going on games quite relaxing to be honest! So i would not mind trying to workout what i can bet and what i can't and know my limits and generally be responsible with it!. I know a few people who have become hmm addicted to gambling or just cant stop and get themselves into a seriously bad financial situation!.

Im deffo considering signing up to bet365 and go between coral and bet365!. Instead of being on one casino, It would be nice to try games coral don't have and expand my horizons a bit !!.
I had no idea about this! I cant believe william hill would do such a terrible thing! If that woman won money fair and square surely the casino has to pay out? surely there are laws protecting people against this sort of thing!!. Thanks for the warning! Il read your review of william Hill!.

I do like to try my luck with jackpots, I find it exciting! but also can be a real bummer if you lose your dolla! but i find it quite enjoyable and pushing your luck!, If other people can win jackpots why cant you , I always say that with anything!. Has anyone here ever won a big jackpot?.

Thanks CL-ED for the reply!!.
Merry christmas and a happy new year to all!!!
Adam

The main thing is to make yourself a budget and stick to it. Also set yourself a win target, for example 3x your deposit. If you hit that win target then its time to withdraw. Expect to have fun while playing but to lose most times, and sometimes you'll have a win. If you hit your budget limit then don't play agin until the next month or week or whatever time your budget is for. If you can stick to some basic rues like that and don't give yourself unrealistic expectations then you won't have a problem.

The problem the woman had is the casino she was playing at (Joyland Casino) had a sneaky term in their multi-page T&Cs that said that the casino only had to pay her something like $9000 a month. So they told her that rule applied to progressive jackpots wins and she could either take $9000 a month for the next 35 years or so, or they would give her half up front. It was a total scumbag move from a bunch of criminals. They even tried to make her play through her winnings like a bonus. Then when WH took the casino over shortly after, they made the BS argument that they only bought the assets of the company, not the debts, so it wasn't their responsibility. Again, a scumbag move, and that is why they remain blacklisted here despite their many regular emails attempting to get off our blacklist.

There are still plenty of Playtech casinos around today that still have that same $10,000 or less per month clause, and it explicitly says that it applies to progressive jackpot wins. And what makes it even worse - Playtech pays the casino the full amount when the jackpot is won. So these thieving casino owners are basically just holding on to the winner's money and profiting off it while the player gets paid in tiny monthly instalments.

And even more worse, the owner of Joyland Casino before being sold to William Hill was a holding company belonging to Teddy Sagi, Playtech's majority shareholder. So basically, Playtech paid their own company the full jackpot amount, paid out half to the player and the rest disappeared. How do you like dem apples?
