How do casinos determine which games get progressive jackpots?

5 replies • Last post

I have been looking over the various progressive jackpots that casinos offer, and I sometimes find that the games which offer huge jackpots are strange. An example of this would be the Arabian Nights slot from Net Entertainment. The game doesn't appear to be anything special to me, but apparently has been deemed worthy of hosting a progressive jackpot that pays out millions of dollars.

Is there some sort of selection process for these games to receive a jackpot, or is it completely random? I could easily see a game like Gonzo's Quest or something that looks really unique having a huge jackpot, but an ordinary looking game like Arabian Nights blows me away.

What do you think?

I have played Arabian Nights a bit and it is quite boring. It is one of Net Ent's earlier games and it shows. As for how the game developers pick the jackpots, I don't know. I would expect that they design a game with the progressive jackpot in mind from the start.

Jackpot killing huge part of RTP, so most jackpot slots are boring, specially netent's jackpots. Only hall of gods seems ok for me, other is boring as hell. Mg have couple of great and interesting jackpot games, and for sure awesome TDK with huge jackpots.

It depends on the game. You can look here and find several jackpots which are not killing the RTP. In fact its the opposite, although none are slots.

Betsson's Caribbean Stud is currently over 120% RTP.

Yes of course, although some games which pay 10% of the jackpot for a straight flush for example could be above 100% RTP even without winning the full jackpot (if the jackpot goes high enough).
