GOP Wants To Re-Block Online Gambling

9 replies • Last post

This is a bit political, so I apologize in advance if anyone is offended, but I felt compelled to post it here.

I just saw that the Republican party is trying to push a platform of trying to repeal the DoJ's stance on internet gambling last year if they win the presidency this November.

This is not cool in my books!

Now, full disclosure: I am an independent voter who leans more toward the libertarian side of things, and I feel the government really needs to butt out of this stuff.

No cool at all. It kills me that the Republicans claim they do not go for government interference in people's lives, but that only seems to apply to when they want to stop taxing the rich.

I consider myself a "middle grounder," too, and I am SO disappointed in both parties. More and more I see they are cut from the same cloth, and they cannot deliver their promises once in office.

Anyway, there excuses for banning online poker are very weak from what I read there, and definitely NOT COOL, as you say! 😢

Too much interference in our lives. I don't care for either party, and find myself in the middle too.

Ahhhhh... "Politicians"

“Politics: “Poli” a Latin word meaning “many”; and "tics" meaning “bloodsucking creatures”.”

I may be just a naive Australian who fails to understand these things but let me get this straight.

GOP = Republicans? What does GOP mean anyway?
And the Republicans are the anti-big-government, pro-big-business guys right?

Its hard to make sense of it really.

Yes, GOP is the Republicans. It stands for Grand Old Party.

And yes, the Republicans are supposedly the ones who want to limit government and expand business.

I agree, it doesn't make sense to me either... we are really hurting for jobs over here, and opening up a new industry would create many new jobs, more taxable revenues, and protect players in the process. It just doesn't add up.

Our unemployment rate is supposedly just above 8% here, but analysts suggest the true number is around 15% if you factor in those who have given up or are underemployed.

The reality is that if they want to do lower that true rate, they need to allow businesses to find ways to create jobs. How would that happen? Certainly not by stifling job creation by working to block new ideas and markets such as online gambling.

I am now off my soapbox.

But the Ryan campaign confirmed to Runner's World that he has only run one marathon, the 1990 Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, which he finished in just over 4 hours. hahaha........The Grandma's Marathon..........

I wish every time they lied, they would get an inch shorter until they could no longer be seen or heard!

Yes, Grandma's Marathon is a VERY popular annual marathon up in northern Minnesota, Duluth, MN. It is called that because it is sponsored by Grandma's Bar and Grill. lol But he certainly DID exaggerate/lie!

Love your last sentence. Priceless. lmbo!
