Spain

14 replies • Last post

Ed,

What's the current deal about Spain and online gambling? I may have to go there for a few months but remember that I received a message (from WHG - so hardly going to trust what they say 😈 without checking it with you) a while back saying that the laws on online gambling in Spain were changing and that it was going to be made illegal.

True? or is it all just more πŸ˜• type advice from those well known 🀠

Also a few times in my travels I have come across problems accessing casinos when staying in hotels via the hotel wifi connection. Any clues why this is so? I guess it must be paranoia on behalf of the hotel groups but on asking I usually just get fobbed off in a language I don't understand and so have to go elsewhere.

Grateful for your input πŸ‘

PS: not sure if this is the right section for this thread so move it at will...

I haven't heard of any changes in Spanish laws on online gambling. I'm pretty sure it's still legal to gamble online in Spain. Have a nice (and lucky πŸ˜‰ ) stay in Spain. Where exactly are you going?

Yes, it is legal, there was a law introduced by DGOJ in 2011 and several online casinos have their licence, I think that there is a list of them on their website. And I'm also curious where are you going πŸ˜‰

Barcelona (love the casino there) & possibly Madrid.

Cheers once again 🍷

LUCKY! I wish I could make my way to Europe at least once. Spain seems like it would be a pretty cool place to visit.

Have fun!

Last month the Spanish regulator released a list of approved companies that are allowed to provide online gaming services in Spain. So it is explicitly legal and regulated, but only as of last month. So I am not sure whether there are any sites that are set up to operate legally under the new laws. They have to have a .es web address and servers in Spain among other things.

On the other hand most casinos have been accepting Spanish players for years without problems. So I don't think you would have any issues in that respect.

Barcelona is beautiful. I've also been to Tarragona, Valencia, Granada, Madrid and a few other places along the South-eastern coastline. I haven't been to beach party central up north though.

Barcelona is beautiful, especially buildings by Gaudi, Madrid as well, you can try some really tasty things from spanish cuisine on Mercado San Miguel (olives with bacon are georgous!), it's in the very centre. But watch your back in Parque del Retiro, when my friend from abroad visited me and we went there, she was robbed and didn't have money for the rest of her stay (1,5 weeks), not to mention flight bookings etc...

Β‘Que lo pases bien en EspaΓ±a! πŸ™‚

Thanks for all the answers - much appreciated πŸ‘

Ed - really interesting what you say - I hope they don't push the rule too hard and accept that if a company is EU regulated in some way that will do nicely for the authorities in Spain too. Out of interest in the whole of Europe which (safe πŸ˜‚ ) country is the most liberal in where you can play online? Is it the UK? or even Ireland maybe?

Osmany - if you live anywhere near some decent casinos let me know which ones they are as I love your country and am always interested in sussing out new places to visit.

Thanks again guys!

Yes the UK and Ireland are probably the most liberal, or at least the most sensibly regulated, when it comes to online gambling. Many of the European countries are starting to move in the same direction as Spain and they are looking to regulate within their borders.
