Internet Lotteries

9 replies • Last post

There has been talk about online lotteries a lot recently, and I am wondering if anyone here has actually participated in an internet lottery.

We have one down in Illinois, but only residents of that state can take part. My home state of Michigan is resistant to the idea as they want to drive people into stores to spend money on more than just lottery tickets. I can see their point, but for me it would be a lot more convenient to do the process online.

Do you play online? Have you ever won money? How is it dispersed?

I am not aware of any state lotteries online. I would get emails about them in past junk emails, lol, but I am always leary, because I don't know which ones to really trust. I know we have to be careful here. Not all are legit. I also like having my ticket in hand and calling the number to check my numbers against it, thinking that, of course, I am going to win each time, lol.

Can you list some that are LEGIT, 'Slim?

The Illinois State Lottery is the one that I know of for sure in the States. I have heard that places like Malta have put something like an e-lottery gaming license on the table, so I assume there are some overseas.

More US states are supposedly getting on the ball though.

This topic really interests me Slim as I live in the outback with no access to anything like a decent lottery so I wonder if Ed could give us his views about online lotteries.

I think some of the casino/bookmaker companies do run lottery type games - for example Ladbrokes (?!?) always used to do a daily lottery type game - 5 balls - but its not the same as playing for one of the mega buck state, country or continent (ie Euromillions) ones where you can literally win enough to take over a small nation every saturday night at 8... but maybe the whole problem about this whole issue is residency of players?!

Perhaps one of the gaming companies should hook up with the lottery companies and offer us the chance to play.

I look forward to the day 🙂

When my Aunt was alive, she lived in the state next to mine. I would send her money to play their lottery, and she would send me money to play mine, lol. We both won a couple of times, and it was fun playing my state lottery and hers (not every week, but we had a schedule we could both afford). Of course, for an arrangement like this, you have to arrange with someone you trust a great deal.

I am still a bit leery of many of the online lotteries.

I have looked into this a little while ago when I was considering whether I could set up a forum lottery syndicate. There are websites that allow you to buy lottery tickets online for the big draws in Europe and the US. If/when you win they deposit the winnings back into your account with them and you can either cash out or use the money to buy more tickets later.

Sounds great right? I guess it is, except that you're only supposed to be buying tickets in the EuroMillions or MegaMillions if you're a resident in an eligible country. No doubt the people running the websites have people there who do buy the tickets (well lets hope they do - some do post scans of the tickets to show they did actually buy them). But how confident are you that if you won the mega prize that they would hand it over to you? I'd say the chances are near zero. After all, if you're not a resident in the country then you have no legal right to claim the money, and even if you were it would be difficult to prove it was your ticket.

So I concluded that I would only play an online lottery if I could legally buy an official ticket online directly from the lottery or an agent.

Always play it safe! Consult our list of rogue casinos and warnings before depositing at a new casino.
Post in our forums to earn CLchips which can be used to buy real prizes in our CLchips shop.

Great information, CL-Ed. If it is a place that is completely legit, it would be FUN to have the chance to join in with our friends here in order to win the big one! 🙂

I know there ARE a ton of scams out there (they go to my junk mail) for online lotteries, so everyone has to be careful. But if it was a regular lottery, like MegaMillions, and if there was a way to do it where we could honestly trust the person, then I say, let's go for it! I will be happy to buy everyone's tickets, lol. 😉

If I found a legit one I would sure play it.I dont know why the states haven't figured this one out-more revenue for poor suckers like "I" who "donate " to the state lottery and Powerball all the time.Won a pick 3 for $600 here in Ky 20 years ago and have not hit since.I still play the same numbers I started with 25 years ago.Don't have the heart to change.

I do the same thing with our MN Gopher 5. I started to play when my youngest was 3 year old, and he is now 24 years old, and I did two lines of picks: one with our ages and one with our bdays. They used to draw twice a week, then changed it to three times a week. So, I can't afford to play every time, so on the dates I don't play, I have to plug my ears if the numbers come up on the TV, because if they came up when I haven't played, I would NEVER forgive myself, and now I have all my numbers memorized, lol. I haven't won for many years, either. I won only 250.00 around my bday time (March) years ago! But I don't play as often as I did back then, either. The Gopher 5 starts at 100,000 and goes up every week there is no winner. I like to play, because I figure the odds are better, and now the Powerball is up to 2.00 a time, which I don't like. MegaMillions is still one dollar. I need to buy tickets more often, I guess. lol

Didn't like the raise in the powerball amount either.Have played Mega a few times but mostly stay with Pick 3 and Pick 4.I haven't changed my numbers in 20 years and hit Pick 3 every once in a while. My husband says I am a chicken ---- better/bettor? but that is ok.I will hand someone 50 cents if they give me back 50 dollars anytime.Still looking for that evasive online lottery site.
