Nervous ticks...

13 replies • Last post

This is a bit of fun but there is a valid point behind it too...

Picture the scenario...

1) A jackpot looms within your sights... nerves are jangling...

OR

2) Your playing pot is getting small.... nerves are just as wobbly...

So what do members here do to take it easy, stay chilled, keep clam, don't panic etc etc when playing online?

I know you all do weird and wonderful things (which if you were playing poker would perhaps necessitate the dark specs, baseball cap, Ipod plugged firmly in ears to disguise haha) so what are they?

In other words what's your nervous tic 🙂 ?!?

Mine is to talk to my dog. If the tail wags > good sign! If the "you gave the bacon to the cat?!?" look comes onto his face > time to talk to the cat....

🙂

If I get nervous about a hand I have, I generally tap the bridge of my nose. It is weird, but a habit of calming me down in a subconscious way.

I then make my choice and hope for the best. My ex sister in law shakes her legs. Its really weird and irritating, lol.

I take a deep breath and try to relax. I envision myself winning. I try to will the outcome I want. 🙂

So a mix of zen and ying and yang Lucky lol? And Slim nose tapping is just plain bizarre 🙂 but agree about legs going up and down like a nodding donkey oil rig > nothing more bugging when trying to focus.... funnily enough though if you watch people (they must be standing up) who are watching the high jump - watch their legs - they go up in support of the jumper when he/she jumps haha - hilarious

As I do not play online that often, at the casino I find it funny how people wipe the machines down at land casinos, as if that will cause the machine to hit. I am also told by people to play with $5 bills, so if I hit big I can cash out and put in another bill. At $2.00 a bet that's 2.5 bets I can make with that, it seems to upset people when they see me putting a $20 or $100 in the slot. As for my ticks, I do shake my leg or drink lots of water at the poker table, but that's because I quit smoking and get bored easily when I am on a dry streak. When sitting on the slot or VP machine I have no tick.

I'm a leg shaker and mover too. I can't sit still when I am excited. A few deep breaths are usually a bit of a help - suck in the air all the way to the pit of your stomach and out again slowly a few times. Not sure how you would do that if you're playing poker and the other players are looking at you though!

I guess that is what separates the pros from the joes, Ed. I was watching WPT last night with my wife and she was asking about tells. I ended up telling her that I would have to wear a burka with aviators if I played professional poker, as I couldn't conceal my excitement.

I like giving away false tells and tugging at the heartstrings of the other player, this ends up putting them on tilt, it is the best feeling ever.

I always wondered about those people who wave their hands back and forth over the slot screen. WTH is that supposed to do? lol!

My friend insists that the machines actually LIKE the 100 dollar bills, lol! She also has a habit of going through the menu, then back to the game. Insists she won a few times after doing that, and she probably did...by sheer coincidence. Me? I have my lucky bracelet and I do tend to be a leg shaker, too, but not when I play poker.

Heheh yes if I was ever a poker player I would be sitting there all concealed, unabomber style, trying desperately to hold my body still.

I like to think I am pretty good with poker. I don't have any "tells" that I can tell anyway, lol!

I have been thinking about this one, and if I have a "tick" while playing slots it is that I talk to the machine. I threaten to leave if I don't hit something in "three more spins," lol. Then move onto the next game, because I have to keep my promises, lol. I try to say positive words and send those vibes out to the universe and "lady luck." As far as body language, I do shake my leg when I am sitting, but I think that is more that I am not one to sit for a long time, and I have to keep moving.

Well at least you keep your promises, Hope!

I was caught with the tapping my nose thing earlier this weekend. I also was told that I pace when I am nervous by multiple people. That would be kind of hard to do at a poker table though, lol.
