Payout Percentage

1 reply • Last post

This is a question that is probably pointed toward Ed, but anyone can answer it for me if you know.

When I see the casino reviews, I notice that some casinos have a payout percentage. Is this a number that changes or is it a constant? If it is a constant, why would anyone play at a casino that has a lower overall payout percentage?

I mean a lot of times its not that different, but sometimes there is a variance of 1-2 percentage points. Wouldn't that be potentially huge over time?

The number changes from month to month as the casinos usually release a payout report on a monthly basis. It is common to see a few percentage points difference from month to month as the variance in the games can mean some months there is a huge winner on a slots jackpot for example, while in the next month there is not.

To be honest we have been a bit slack on keeping those numbers up to date though and we're even considering removing them as we have not been able to work out an automated way of keeping them up to date. Instead we would just have a yes/no flag that tells you whether the casino publishes their payout percentages.

The better option is to click the eCOGRA logo just below in the review (if there is one) and that will show you the latest published payout percentages for that casino. Otherwise you can check the casino's website for the most up-to-date figures.

For the vast majority of casinos that use software that does not allow manipulation of the game odds (eg Microgaming, Playtech), the numbers for any one casino should generally be a good indicator for all casinos using that same software.

Also I have in my todo list a report that compares the payout percentages between online and land based casinos. The numbers are actually quite surprising.
