Augmented Reality: The Next Thing?

12 replies • Last post

We are always seeing stories about innovation in our beloved internet gambling history, and I have something that I have seen that I believe may be a cool future feature of internet gambling.

My daughter has a Nintendo 3DS that she bought for Christmas (she's a good saver), and this thing has a feature called "Augmented Reality". In it, she can take this card, put it on a table, and use the 3DS camera to see this card. When this happens, the card pops to life in real time, and through the camera she can play games. Walking around the card will change the angle in real time.

It is pretty freaking cool, and it got me to thinking.

What if in the future we could have a set of glasses and a couple of Augmented Reality cards. We put these blank cards on our kitchen table, and the online casino's game projects the hand you are playing onto this card.

Think about it: If you were playing single deck blackjack, you are dealt the cards, and you have the chance to pick them up, inspect the cards and scrape the table just as you would in a "real" casino. The game would react appropriately, and you would get another card from the collection side of the deck.

Or roulette. You could have a virtual roulette wheel and betting area on your table. You place the markers on it and are actually actively participating in the games.

I think this would be a blast. What do you think?

This sounds very interesting. I think it would be fun. It would certainly make it more like real life wouldn't it?

I think it's great that your daughter is a saver.

yeah... way too cool! 8) Should online casinos invest so much on this, hopefully sooner the better. Here's a link from Wikipedia, apparently it's been around back 1990:

I have no doubt that this, and many other "sci-fi" type of realities will be right around the corner. My son has pointed me toward some pretty freaky stuff, like controlling video games with your mind, moving objects, robots, and on and on. I have heard so many strange things that are supposedly coming in the future that it blows my mind and makes me feel as old as my mother, lol!

Some of the things my son has sent me actually frightens me to no end, but there are many positives, too!

I really think this would have some cool applications and wish I had the money to develop a system to do it.

Imagine baccarat, where players crinkle the cards. If you could virtually do something like that it would be neat, especially in an Asian market where the game is huge.

I dunno, I just think its so neat... call me crazy!

Are we in an augmented reality already? Maybe everything we say and do now is in a game.

That is a neat site Hope. They had an article on how to figure out if someone is piggybacking on your wifi signal, which I suspect.

Haha, I totally forgot about that show. Actually, I have been thinking this for many months. I changed some settings though. 🙂

The possibilities with this stuff are great. Already there are some cool apps and things you can get for your phone.

One I have been playing with on my iphone is called Skyview. You hold your phone up to the sky and it shows you an overlay of the stars, planets, and satellites. So you can point your phone at a star and then touch the screen and it tells you what the star is and gives a little info on it. Its a cool way of working out what you are looking at.

Always play it safe! Consult our list of rogue casinos and warnings before depositing at a new casino.
Post in our forums to earn CLchips which can be used to buy real prizes in our CLchips shop.

Now this is really something. It's amazing the stuff some people invent.
