Piff the Magic Dragon and Zumanity Review from Las Vegas

4 replies • Last post

Las Vegas is known for its gambling, its great nightlife, delicious cuisine, and its awesome shows. During my recent trip to Las Vegas, I had the opportunity to attend two awesome shows, and I thought I'd give my thoughts on each here, so that if you're ever in Sin City you can have two great pieces of entertainment that you know will be entertaining. It should be noted that I really just scratched the surface in terms of the different shows present, and there are tons of other shows to check out.

Piff the Magic Dragon Review

The first show that I had the opportunity to attend was Piff the Magic Dragon. For those of you who don't know him, Piff is a gentleman that dresses up like a magic dragon and does magic tricks, all while putting on a grump facade. I first came across him on America's Got Talent, but he's also been on Penn and Teller's Fool Us.

bout $49 a piece, but you can dish out more money to get in on a pre-show party with Piff. It should be noted that I don't think anyone actually got in on that. Bugsy's has a seating capacity of about 75 or so, and almost every seat was sold out.

We were in the second row of seats, and you feel like you're right by the stage no matter where you are. Piff comes out and within 30 seconds you know this isn't one of his television appearances. There is a bit of crash language here, but I absolutely loved it. The comedy is first rate, and so is the magic. At the beginning of the show, Piff asked for the man's wallet in front of me. There, he pulled out the guy's Home Depot credit card and made it disappear. About 20 minutes later, a lady joined Piff on Stage where he pulled out a card signed by her in the dog food. Going to the bottom, Piff pulled out a middle finger for a heckler… as well as the Home Depot card!

It should be noted that Piff does take items from the audience, and he really does jack them up. The man's credit card still had dog food on it at the end of the show, and he wasn't given anything to clean it up with. The same goes for another guy's $20 bill, which was signed and showed up in the dog food. If you don't want to have your stuff messed with, I'd avoid sitting in the first couple rows.

All in all, I absolutely loved Piff. I saw a couple of his tricks on TV before, but I still had a blast there. There were a few hecklers present, and Piff knew how to deal with them in a comical way, humiliating them and making everyone else laugh.

At the end of the show, you get the chance to get a free picture taken with Piff. This is a pretty cool treat at the end of a show. Of course, there's merch to be found, and if you buy anything Piff will sign for free.

Zumanity Review

My wife and I were in Vegas to celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary. We wanted to see a Cirque show, as we had heard amazing things related to the stunts. Seeing as how we had no kids, we figured that we'd take in the risqué Zumanity show, which is meant for those 18 years of age or older.

The show is held inside the New York New York Casino in an arena that looks to hold several hundred seats. We paid just under $100 a ticket for our seats, but we were once again in the second row from the stage. Being up close at this event was awesome, as you really can see the concentration that these artists put into their dangerous craft.

Doors open 40 minutes prior to the start of the show, and you want to be in your seat no later than a half hour before the show starts. That's because there's a pre-show in place that puts you in the mood. You're treated to two large women with Russian accents making guests uncomfortable, as well as a married couple that tries to make sexy time a fun time. If you're the type offended by sex toys or penis jokes, then this show isn't for you.

Once the show started, it was even better. There is a full band playing on a moving platform above the stage. The music is straight out of a James Bond movie, and the vocals are just stellar. On the stage you have a host walking you through the show, costumed characters, and gymnasts. At times there can be a lot going on in the shows, but when something truly dangerous comes around, there generally is just one person on the stage.

Some of the stunts are breathtaking. You have some that are more sensual than dangerous, but there are some that left people gasping. The highlight for me was a man wrapped in chains whipping around the stage at an incredible height. At one point, he's hanging from the chain by one boot roughly 50 feet in the air. It was awesome.

This show is funnier than many other Cirque shows according to those who have been to others. Breaking up the stunts are the married couple, who bring in the audience to do some embarrassing and hilarious stunts.

Conclusion

If you are going to Las Vegas, then I highly recommend going to both Piff the Magic Dragon and Zumanity. If I had to pick one, I'd probably say go with Zumanity, but the edge here is razor thin. I wouldn't mind seeing either of them a second time, and my assumption is that 90% of you reading this would enjoy them as well. If you've been to either of these shows, let me know what you think in the comment section below.

Sounds awesome slim. I've seen Piff on Penn & Teller and I think he was successful in fooling them so he's obviously got some skills. Did you buy yourself a Cirque leather g-string and boots for a souvenir?

Well, I got the boots for me and the g-string for you. Hopefully you don't mind a size extra small. 🙂
