Got whipped at my local casino

17 replies • Last post

I was having a nice walk and wanted to try my luck at my local casino. I thought they'd have great games and stuff but I wasn't expecting table games to have such a high minimum for me (20 dollars on blackjack), but I thought why the hell not. So I sat there and played a few hands (around 10 hands) and I lost around 200 bucks. I didn't feel too bad though since losing 200 is very normal in a game of chance (still a slot player). The person beside me was playing 3 hands of 50 a swing and I think he lost up to 500 or so dollars during my stay at the table. Also my local casino's rules are horrible too DAS H17 NLS euro blackjack =(

I feel you on that one. The blackjack rules at my local casino are so bad it isn't really worth playing at all. Just like you say - high minimum bets, plus shockers like a dealer 22 is a push.

are you playing blackjack switch? If that's what you're playing, the house edge is about the same.

We have pretty good tables at our local casinos. Many five dollar tables and if you want to bet more you can go to the "high stakes' room. There is even one that has a one-dollar table, but they get you with an ante for each hand. I think I posted about it a long time ago. My brolher used to play a lot of blackjack and was pretty good, but then he started in on the slots.....lol

The rules weren't actuallysuper horrible but I can't believe how many times the dealer whips out a 21 or 20 with a 6 up card Angry

Down in Detroit the tables are ridiculous with a lot of $25 minimums and 6:5 blackjack, but in Mt. Pleasant (30 minutes away from me) they actually have decent tables starting with single deck $5 minimums with 3:2 payouts.

I actually stopped by there with my wife this past weekend and played for about a half hour. Wound up about even, as I tipped the dealer the $3 I was ahead at the end.

Still, it's pretty shocking how bad the tables are in a lot of places, and it's even worse when the dealer ends up hitting some obscene 21 with crap cards. That's been the story of my life recently online AND in land casinos!

No actually its this crappy game they call Blackjack Challenge. The rules and strategy are here (house edge with proper strategy is 2.53%). Last time I was there I couldn't find a regular game of blackjack unless I was willing to play for upwards of $100 a hand.

Wow! 22 push. That's just straight up cheating. Messes up the variants big time. Get shot for that sort of play back in the day!! Thumb Down

Well dude, there are some games with added benefits like having 5 card charlie/trick, having suited bjs pay 2-1, having 21 pay instantly, having split hands count as blackjack and paid 3-2 is also nice. However, dealer push on 22 gives the casino an extra 6.91% advantage which is pretty damn high. If free bets are included this evens out to around another .91% advantage which is still nothing to be scoffed at.

Well CL-Ed, I guess your local casino is really horrible, I have 2D games with a min bet of 50 bucks or so, but it seems like people find it too high even though they play 50 dollar a hand on a 20 dollar table which is 6D blackjack.

Yeh dude, put simply thats one less hand i could have won. Used to be alot easier to calculate/ride out the swings/badbeats/coolers which are hard to factor in as it was. If we could factor these in exactly with facts and figures we'd all be winners wouldn't we! But then they change the rules Vampire
Played bj and holdem for almost 40yrs and now with all these "different" variants to the games all i can say is 'that ain't blackjack or holdem'. Holdem is the same with rebuys, addons multi-buyins and on and on.
Whatever happened to good old blackjack and holdem. Everyone loves a chicken dinner every now and then Eat

That is too much for a minimum bet. No wonder you lost $200 in no time since the bet is so high. Also rules is bad but not so bad compare to other casinos.

I feel you. I wouldn't play BJ with such bets. Also if I would play, I would play Holdem because with BJ I feel like you have to bet much to get ahead and I usually lose with BJ. But such high stakes for a local casino is too much.

Well that is very fortunate and you're lucky. Smile I haven't had such luck ever with BJ.

Then it was great for you. For me usually the dealer wins and I get bust most of the time.
