Tribal or Big Name Casinos?

18 replies • Last post

In Michigan we have a LOT of Indian tribal casinos, but only a few big name casinos in Detroit (MGM, MotorCity, and Greektown). Across the river in Windsor, Ontario (Canada) we have Caesars.

I find it often more convenient to visit the tribal casino just down the road from me, but am often drawn to the bigger names and the nice appearance of their facilities.

What do you guys prefer, and why?

Well, my vote won't count for much, because Indian casinos are the only choice I have in Minnesota. Someone also told me that we are the only state where they are not required to pay tax? If I want a big name, I would have to fly to Vegas, and I can't afford that, so I have no choice but to choose Indian Casinos for this poll.

I have not been to a lot of casinos, maybe eight. I still have all of the cards from each place though. I collect the casino cards too! We have Hollywood in Joliet. It is very nice and I enjoy going there for that reason. It is very clean.

I usually play @ Indian Casino. They have an outstanding customer service, lots of entertainment, looser slot machines and many freebies!

My mom went on a bus trip with the seniors, from her park in Florida, to the Hard Rock Casino yesterday. That is where Anna Nicole died.

Mom had fun company and a nice lunch and returned with 16 dollars out of 20 dollars, which the casino gives the seniors as part of the bus-trip package. She had a fun day.

I visited an Indian Casino when I was in Phoenix and when in the Wisconsin Dells. The one in the Dells was very nice and comparable to what I am used to here in Minnesota.

That would be fun to collect casino cards.

I still want to return to Vegas. The ONE time I traveled there, I was not big into gambling, so I did not know what i was missing, lol. Would be fun to return now that I enjoy gambling a little more.

I as well had to go with Indian Casinos, as a resident of Southern California those are my only options, unless I take the 4 hour drive or one hour flight to Las Vegas. I could always hit up the casinos in Tijuana as well, but I think steering clear of those would be all the wiser.

I just voted for Big Names, none of the tribal casinos I've been to had roulette.

But I'll probably be going to Cherokee in W Siloam Springs, OK in the next week or so. I called, they have roulette starting at noon, OR 2pm, OR 4pm and goes till the crowd (??) dies out. Doesn't sound very promising, but I haven't had a fix in awhile so I'm going to give it a try.

They have $5 min inside and outside, which will mess with the bet progression that has worked out for me best in the past. I may lose my shirt trying to keep up with the math.

Oh, well, wish me luck! If there's anything to report, I'll be back in a week or 3.

Whoa.. I just learned a few weeks ago that we really do have one and only legitimate Indian land casino here in Texas and they are expanding rapidly! We're planning to go there during our spring or summer vacation. Please check this out:

at the tribal casino I go to there is more action on the roulette table then you will ever see in vegas I have seen green and black chips ($25 and $100) go down and when it gets busy there is at least $1000 at all times on those tables.

Howdy, Yall!!

Back in early November I mentioned I might be going to Cherokee Casino in W Siloam Springs, OK and I'd post if there was anything to report. Well, none of it was any good, so I've been trying to avoid THAT particular bad taste in my mouth, but this forum is all about sharing the news, I guess that means good, the bad, and the indifferent.

Ya'll may or may not remember, Roulette is the game that makes my heart go pitter-patter!

Have you ever played roulette with a "deck of cards!!!" instead of a spinning wheel?

Well, I think it stinks! They have a deck of 38 cards (it's a double zero table) that the dealer initially shufles by hand, then puts them in an automatic shuffle machine that's sunk in the table, a card is spit out, the dealer slides it over a camera in the table, then the number shows up up there on the number board, she reinserts the card in the deck and the deck is shuffled again.

It's totally random, NOT a good thing for me.

And I know most people think roulette is totally a random game anyhow, casino people have looked me in the eye and told me,
"Ya know, this # has absolutely nothing to do with what is going to come up on the next roll," and I just smile sweetly and say, "Yes, I know," place my bet and walk away 45 min later with $250 or $300 of their money.

I can tell you from 5 years of experience (mostly online just for fun, tho I have been to Tunica 12 times and came back with a sizeable profit every time but once) if you know what to watch for, there are streaks coming off those wheels, and I've developed a couple of fairly dependable routines to take advantage of that fact.

And to add insult to injury, have you ever, EVER anted 50 cents on a game of roulette? Each and every spin of the wheel?? Oh, no, I meant to say, "every time you placed a bet before they shuffled the cards?" lol (or crying out loud? Did I just coin a new phrase? col ?!?)

Anyway, I'm depressed enough for now, think I'll go cook up a steak and sweet potato souffle from leftovers!

Happy spinning and best of luck to all of you!

Substituting cards for the ball and spinning wheel sounds incredibly lame but hold on did you say you had to ante 50c just to play? I'm assuming here you mean that you can't win anything on that ante so its effectively a tax to play. You should have left the place than and there.

Always play it safe! Consult our list of rogue casinos and warnings before depositing at a new casino.

the Indian casino I go to has an online poker room, where you can play for prizes and free hotel stays. I think most Indian casinos are pushing for regulation so they can their hands in on online gambling.
