Gambling With My Wife

A few weeks ago I was scratching my head looking for an idea to write a blog about. I was kicking around various ideas when I mentioned to my wife that it had been a while since the two of us had been out to the casino together. Right after that, the great Usne made a forum post wondering if any of our significant others went gambling with us (the timing was shocking Usne, it was like we were on the same page). So, after I got the idea to write about my combined gambling adventures with my wife, we decided to make a trip to a local casino. Today I am sharing my experiences about our time at the casino together, and hope you will take the time to comment on Usne's forum posts regarding your stories too.

My wife and I decided to hit the Soaring Eagle Casino together. It is located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, about 40 minutes from my transplanted home town of Midland. This isn't the first time the two of us have been to the Soaring Eagle, but my attitude on gambling has changed a lot since that initial trip. Back then, my wife and her friends wanted to throw change into a Monopoly slot, while I said, "If I am going to blow money at the casino, you can be dammed sure that I am going to get something out of it. You girls go gamble and I will be sitting at the bar drinking cheap drinks and watching hockey".

We pulled up to the Soaring Eagle with what I would consider a modest payroll for the both of us. My wife was to take her half and spend it as she saw fit, and I would watch and play if I wanted. After a while we would do a game I wanted to play, and see where we ended up. As usual, she wanted to play the slots, and saw slim winnings with the occasional bonus round being hit to put her up slightly more. I myself played just a tad and saw my money go down the drain. I really didn't enjoy the slots with her to be frank.

After a while of her playing the one machine, we decided it was my turn to pick a game. I chose blackjack, which is my favorite table game and pretty simple to play. My wife decided to play as well, and wanted to see how I played with strategy. The cards came down, and I followed basic strategy while she made her choices on impulse. I soon was being chided by my wife as my strategy wasn't working, and the dealer was collecting my cards, while my wife was getting lucky and hitting her numbers. I certainly wasn't enjoying my time with her during this either.

After a while we decided to stop playing and enjoyed a nice dinner at the casino's buffet. Overall, my wife certainly enjoyed her trip to the casino with me; she ended being up around $50. I lost most of my bankroll and didn't enjoy myself very much, although perhaps my view would be different if I had been winning and gotten the opportunity to tease my wife about losing at slots and blackjack!
