My mother is a bingo freak

10 replies • Last post

I just found this out recently...

She's recently retired and has found her calling... she goes to a different club almost every day now and plays bingo. She even drags my father along too and now he's into it. And they keep winning weird prizes. Last week, they won 5 trays of meat. They tell me they have won things like bottles of juice, or a leg of lamb, and sometimes a bit of cash. And most of the games they play are free.

I had a bit of a laugh and said I imagined that people must recognise her now as one of the pros on the suburban bingo circuit ... and she was kind of embarrassed to admit that its true. She sees the same people all around the place wherever she goes!

I was telling her that she can play online but its not her thing. Probably a good thing, she wouldn't leave the house if she started on that.

That is so cool. At least she's doing something she loves. Is she playing 90 ball bingo? That's what I play in the UK but played 75 ball in the states.

Do your parents dab or use the computers. LOL too cute!

Very cute story Ed. It is a nice game especially for the mature players who are retired. It is a great social outlet. The fact that mom and dad go together is adoreable. The couple that plays together, stays together.

I love a bit of bingo. Here in the UK there has been a bit of a bingo craze recently. Even young people go to play but they spice it up a bit and make people do dance-offs or drinking games if there are two people who hit bingo at the same time. Its a fun night.

I don't know the number of balls but I do know they play with a book and they dab. She was saying how she's getting fast enough to play two books at once now. She's a machine!

Now that's a great story! When we retire, we should all try and find a pastime that we felt strong about over the years, but couldn't find time to practice. And the fact that she likes doing this together with your dad, trying to include him into her activities - priceless! Thumbs up for mom! Smile

I have NEVER ever won Bingo! (Are you seeing a pattern here, folks? lol!). One night, at the casino, every single person at my table won, and one person even won TWICE, but no not me. My brother and I have a blast calling the winners names when they call Bingo! I don't think I can repeat those names here, and it is all in good fun, but everytime someone wins we say, "Witch!" (with a b), or "Mutt!" (with an sl LOL!) and other various gems. Of course, we are just kidding and very jealous.

Ed, I had to LOL at the "bottles of juice or a leg of lamb." Sounds like my old group who played the Texas Hold Em circuit. I played ONE night per week, but the group went to a different place every night and it was always free.

There is a Bingo place right here in town (moved here two years ago) and I have thought of checking it out. I have only gone at the casino and one other time in a nearby town to where I used to live. I drive by and think of going then forget about it. Maybe that is a good thing? I think playing Bingo online is quite boring. I tried only a few times....and, of course, I never won online either. People chat while they play and they seem to have fun. I like real life Bingo best. I used to bring a group of Seniors who were disabled to the Bingo at the community center. They had strange prizes, too, all donated items. But they were SO thrilled to win anything A pack of paper towels, lol, a bag of candy all to his or her self.

I am glad your mom is having fun, and even happier your dad is joining her instead of sitting home. Good for them! Tell your mom that she might have to start a Bingo closet for all her prizes, or at least a shelf. And maybe she will have you over for lamb chops sometime! Thanks for sharing the great story! :

Oh, and P.S. My mom does not like bingo OR gambling. She cries if she loses 20 dollars per year at the casino. Her friends meet at a resort near the casino and they meet there for the buffet once per year. So that is the ONLY time she will step foot in there. And she will NOT spend more than twenty bucks. Then she will lose it and say how she hates gambling, lol. I tell her she might feel differently if she once won. Bridge is her game. She wins little "pots" of money and is really good at the game.

OMG that is so funny that she can work two cards. Does your mom have to use different color dabbers? I know some are very particular with that sort of thing. Even line, double line and full house have to be color coded. It's very serious business!

You'll have to get them to play online some day Ed. Jackpotjoy is a pretty cool site for bingo.

You're getting far too technical for me there Savannah. All I know is she plays bingo constantly!

Good tip with JackpotJoy - I reckon that is a great site, even for casino games. The sign up bonus has only 2xB wagering on bingo. But to be honest like I said in another online bingo just is not for me.

Yes indeed. She's a regular on "the circuit" so who knows, you might have.

She's the one collecting all the prizes Wink
