The Gamblers Ego

The Gamblers ego.........

Ever see a big shot walk in a casino and up to the table with his big fat cigar and a wad of cash to match. They are the highrollers. Ask them if they have the upper hand and edge on the house and more than likely they will tell you yes.

To be quite honest even the low roller gambler has an ego. We hear tales of how they beat the house and the big bucks they have won. People listen in awe at how they seem to have beat the system on a constant basis.

Never tell the gambler with an ego to stop while they are ahead. They will tell you they already know that and always no when to quit. Never tell the gambler with an ego to not spend beyond their means and they will gladly tell you that they are way ahead of the game.

But it takes the wise gambler that knows better. While they are spinning their tales of huge success stories they never seem to mention when they lost the barn a time or two! Lets face it leave the ego at home when your talking to another gambler and save it for the non gambler who doesn't know any better.

Have you ever known a gambler who's ego is so big that they think they try to convince you they are too untouchable to lose?

Actually that reminds me of my favourite gambling story and its very appropriate.

Kerry Packer was Australia's richest businessman who became a billionaire owning tv stations and newspapers and other media interests. He died a few years ago. He was a legendary high roller who would play mostly baccarat and blackjack for ultra high stakes. The casinos feared him because he could make a huge difference to their profits - once he won over $30 million at a Vegas casino in one visit.

So one day he is in the casino playing at the same table as this loudmouth Texan guy who was driving everyone else around him crazy with his loud and boorish behaviour. So Packer tells him to pipe down. And the guy replies "Do you know who I am? Do you? I am worth 60 million dollars!" So Packer pauses for a minute, pulls out a coin and says "I'll toss you for it."

Well they obviously both have massive egos but I think Packer wins by knockout.
