Freerolls, freerolls where to play?

10 replies • Last post

Hiya CL members,

I have never played in a freeroll. I have played in poker freerolls but never slots freeroll. I think i may give want to give it a shot. What casinos are the best ones to try out?

I thank you in advance! Kiss

Microgaming has heaps of freerolls running several times a day which I think you could still play in if you have an old account you signed up for before they stopped accepting new American players. Otherwise the English Harbour group has a weekly $3k slots tournament and Online Vegas / Go Casino also run freerolls from time to time.

You can see all the upcoming casino tournaments here, and freeroll tournaments are also listed at the bottom of our no deposit bonuses page.

Awww shucks your just being modest ed! I did try English Harbour slot tourney btw. I played Cherry Blossoms and really had fun. It lasted me for sometime and the lowest i could get in ranking was about 289. I didn't make a deposit.

I am interested in some tips being this is the first one i ever played. This particular tourney ran for a few days. Is it best to wait til the last day? Is it best to play every day? And last but not least what is a good wagering value to play at?

Anybody with some experience in slot tourneys i would greatly appreciate the advise.

Glad you asked because I am the tournament master! haha. I went through a stage where I was making $1000+ a month off them almost risk free. The reason was they used to hold a lot of tournaments where there were sometimes more prize places on offer than entrants. So you just had to enter, make the minimum number of spins at 1c per spin then sit tight and claim a minimum prize of $20 - $50. Open an account at each casino in the group, rinse repeat. Easy money.

Sadly it ain't that easy any more! They got wise to this and reduced the minimum prize amounts, and also gave you less of a stack to start with. These days you get $100 or $200 to start whereas in the past it was $1-2000.

If they are freerolls, I basically set the starting bet size so its enough to make 4 spins or less only. No use playing for ages on micro stakes where even if you win it won't put you up near the top. On the ones where there is an entry fee like this month's 100k tournament, I play 1 line at 1c per spin until I do the minimum spins and then it tells me at the bottom left of the screen where I am ranked. Then I evaluate whether to go big if I am way out of the money, or keep playing small and try to work my way into the money.

I just did a 1c spin on this month's English Harbour 100k tournament ($10 entry) and after starting with $75, at $74.99 I was in 151st place which would win me my $10 entry back (top 275 get paid). But if I am above 150th place I win $25 so I played a bit more at $1.25 a spin, hit 20 free spins and got up to $98 and change and I'm around 125th place. I'll sit there until the last day to see if I need to play some more to keep me in the money. Its a small prize but it took me <5 minutes and is obviously far easier to cash than most no deposit bonuses these days!

Heaps more people will play on the last day of a tournament and plenty of people ranked above you will crash out when trying to win big. Its not uncommon to see your rank go up 20-30 places on the last day just by leaving it and not playing. Its always good to keep an eye on it from time to time though. eg If there is 5 minutes left and you are in 101st place but 100th wins you an extra $50, you can afford to play a bit to try to get there, because even if you lose money you can still make sure you stop playing before you drop below 150th or whatever is the top of the next lower prize bracket (I hope that made sense).

I am still in there. 140th place now with 2 days to go. I played a little more but the game is brutal, very high variance. You win a lot on the free spins but it can take a while to trigger them.

Well in the end I lost track of this because my wife just had our 2nd baby and I have been in and out of hospital for the past 3 days! Anyway I ended up 153rd would you believe, which means I didn't make a profit but I did win my $10 back so nothing lost.
