Going for Gold

11 replies • Last post

Ed - Happy New Year from 30 degrees above to all you at 20 degrees below or whatever it is in freezing europe right now!

Now I have an urgent request. Is there a beginner's guide on here somewhere as to how to play for the big jackpots? The request comes from someone with no clue as to how to play the games but willing to learn as he has just read about the 91,000 bucks one of your other members just won....... any help appreciated > and I am sure I am not the only newbie-ish fan of the site thinking the same thing..

PS did the site win an award at the awards dinner or did you all just get drunk 🙂 ?

I wish there was a guide on how to win a big jackpot, because then we could all retire! 😉

Stay warm, yellowboots!

I tell you what - if I knew the answer to that one I wouldn't be here telling everyone... I'd be off winning them all. 😂

In all seriousness, most of it is down to pure luck and being in the right place at the right time. Apart from the obvious things like meeting the requirements to win the jackpot (eg - play max coins on video poker, or the minimum required bet on the slots), the best I can suggest is try to play one where the value of the jackpot is significantly above its average. This doesn't make you more likely to win, or the jackpot more likely to hit sooner - but it does mean you get more value for your bets.

Also, some casinos have wildly different jackpots on the exact same games. Casinos using Net Entertainment software are a prime case. For example at the moment you could be playing Arabian Nights at Paf Casino for a potential win of over €6.2 million. The same game at Tower Casino is offering around €30,000. So don't shortchange yourself and play at the casino offering the biggest jackpot on the game you like to play. Compare them here: Arabian Nights Jackpot

So how do you work out what the average values are? Thats why we have a jackpot tracker... now tracking almost 400 progressives. Just use the Jackpots menu up in lights at the top of the page.

I forgot all about the awards - thanks for reminding me! But seeing as they announced them last week I think we would have heard by now so I assume we didn't win. I didn't make the trip as its a huge hike from Sydney to London, plus I had a broken arm over Christmas and only got the cast off last Friday.

Not really, its more a relief than anything. I still have to do physio as my wrist has lost a lot of mobility. It will probably be another month or 2 until back to normal.

I wish that was how I broke my arm! No, some fat old has-been who was angry our team was beating them smashed me from behind in a game of football (soccer) and I fell badly onto my arm with both legs high in the air.

I forgot one vitally important thing regards progressive jackpots: avoid casinos that limit withdrawals to only a few thousand per week or month, unless they state that they specifically exclude progressive winnings from the limit. Loads of the the smaller Playtech casinos do this and it has been used against players in the past. One case was a woman who won over $4 million and Joyland Casino (later sold and now owned by William Hill) told her they would pay her $9000 a month for the next 39 years! They tried to make her play through the win like a bonus, and in the end they only paid her half the jackpot, with the other $2 million lining the pockets of the casino owners. Don't make the same mistake!

Wow. How frustrating. And it feels so helpless to not be able to do a thing about it. 😢

Good to hear the cast is off Ed.

+1 on avoiding the casinos with the jackpot withdrawal limits. Imagine the saga that dogfather is going through with his 90k jackpot... not a good situation.

I know there isn't a strategy for winning at the slots, but maybe a guide with the best betting principles and tips with things to look out for would be in order.
